Dumb question I know....but is there a reason why the baddie from the Infinite trailer looks like a Planet of the Apes reject? I haven't really played a Halo game since CE so I have no idea if giant alien gorillas are just part of the overarching franchise mythology.

So in Halo 2 the Covenant began genetically modifying human prisoners and reversing their biology to become better warriors. Due to Forerunners being so closely linked to humanity, the Covenant leaders known as "Prophets" hoped they could use these new humans they would name "Brutes" to activate the Halo weapons.

Unfortunately this plan would fail; the Covenant leaders not realizing that humanity's ancestors were avid poo flingers who had no interest in giant space hula hoops. They were however incredibly aggressive! Thus the Covenant used the mutated humans as infantry. This would lead to the Elites revolting against the Prophets though, as the Elites were already tired of dealing with the methane munching Grunts without also having turds tossed.

Brutes were introduced in Halo 2, and were the main enemy in Halo 3.

Well when people like Matt have inside information I tend to listen because his track record is pretty immaculate. He was one of the ones on top of Sponger who talked about contract work beginning of the year.
