But at the same time why spend money on an older card. The truth be told a half decent card that's not 2-3 years old will still set you back about 250-350 dollors which in its self is the same price as a console.

You spend money and get a card in accordance to your needs. For most people, a $120 GTX 460 768mb or $160-180 GTX 460 1GB is more than enough. These cards are still capable of running any console ports at 1080p, Maxed @ 60fps. Anything better is for the performance freaks and graphics whores.

Can't we play both? Why is this such a "STOP BEING STUPID, CONSOLE GAMER!" thread? How many people here have their PC and their TV in the same room?

360 pad works for almost every PC game. Another win for the master race

Call me when devs stop releasing shitty ports on the PC IF they release them at all, master race my ass, PC gamers are the real plebs when it comes to Developer's attention lol

I'm glad you were enjoying your online gaming with PS3 for the last 1 month or so.

Generally, because I always run into niggling technical issues when I try my hand at pc gaming. Or at least in the past I did, and now that I have a more recent laptop... that still seems to be the case.

I highly doubt that very many PC gamers here don't own consoles...if any.

How does this keep coming up in the thread?

This is the point. Everyone thinks we ONLY play PC games. We're not idiots. We play console games, too.

By the sounds of it, the majority of us PC gamers in this topic do.

Even if it is "possible" to use a gaming pad on a computer you are at a disadvantage if you do.

Mouse Aiming > Analog Stick Aiming

You will get destroyed in shooters trying to use a pad vs a mouse.

Money.

I don't see a need in spending all that money on PC when i don't care about graphics, keyboards or mice.

I do have a laptop and it plays SC2 so im fine with it, i would rather spend 200-400 on a console and that last me 5+ years then have to buy all these parts and continue to upgrade them, worry about viruses, malware, spyware, driver updates, formatting etc etc etc not to mention i dont have to worry about rampant aimbot, wallhack, speed hack etc.

i just prefer my consoles, don't care about pcs.

1. Work. I used to play best of both worlds but now haven't even enough time to play all the console games for only one console
2. 50" 3D TV and sound system. Moving the PC to the living room is not an option
3. Games like Motorstorm, Uncharted or Buzz, which I can't find on PC
4. Console graphics becoming good enough - for me. I always thought there must be a good balance between resolution, poly count and texure size. PC games tended to be very unbalanced with polygon edges to pronounced. It got better, but no reason for me to go back
5. I am old, I play games mostly on my own, so no need for the perfect mouse/keyboard controls
6. Offline multiplayer even if it leaves lot to be desired
7. Saving money. I rather spend $100 a year on console hardware instead of lot more for computer hardware. It changed as I dont need my home PC for rendering purposes any longer.
8. Sofa or in most cases my excercise bike to use the time I play better.
9. DRM
10. iPad. Stuff like adventures which I still played on PC I now play on the sofa too.

You're really going all out.

In a way I don't understand the purpose of these threads. Either PC gamers need to feel good about themselves or they enjoy trolling naive console warriors desperate to find some facet where consoles are clearly superior and put the elitists in their place. Its not necessary. Saying you prefer consoles to PC gaming because you don't give a fuck about PC gaming is good enough. No need to justify and fuck em if they don't like it. Its your money and time, spend it on what you enjoy.

I'm not a big fan of FPS or RTS games, so I really have no interesting in PC gaming anymore. If flight-sims made a comeback, I'd be temped.
If anything should come out of this thread it should be that we kill the myth that PC games are only about RTS and FPS. And that people learn what the R in RTS actually means.

This.

I LOVE using a mouse to aim

I HATE using a keyboard for all the other functions.

I prefer console gaming because I am willing to substitute a analog stick for a mouse, but I cannot substitute a from fitting controller for a keyboard.

CONCLUSION:

PC = Keyboard + Mouse

Console = Controller + Analog Sticks

Controller >>> Keyboard
Mouse > Analog Sticks

Therefore, the console wins over all in terms of controls.

scorch3.jpg

there you go

or you can also use a regular wii nunchuck, or just use the left analog stick on a regular controller..

Thats what I"m saying, the best is not ..

Console > PC or
PC > Console

Its...

Console + PC > Either alone.

Desks and keyboard/mice. It's much too similar to the other 12 hours of my day for my recreational demands.

Keyboard and mouse is a shitty interface for using on a TV.

Tiny GUIs. Designed for monitors. Designed for a 18-36" viewing distance.

Lack of wireless controllers. Got a wireless 360 adapter, it didn't work properly, got a refund. Ended up having to buy a wired controller.

Lack of controller standardisation (including menus/navigation of content).

Button config is all over the place for 3rd party controllers.

Little consideration for same screen multiplayer. I don't enjoy playing online.

Tech problems and messing with settings. Assholes like to blame and insult anyone that every encounters a tech problem, but when your laptop brand blocks official driver updates you have no choice. (yes 'wah laptops' etc...) I've paid £30 or more for games I have the correct hardware for, but simply won't run, and Valve don't allow any sort of refund for content despite them seeing you can't play it.

The PC is a great platform, but the hardware and OS is an ever present part of the interface. I just want a game and a predetermined experience, similar to console games, movies, books, etc.

Comfy couch and the pain of getting consistent performance (note: not high performance) in terms of framerate, etc stops me from gaming *more* on my PC. I still prefer console gaming over PC, even though my Steam catalogue is 170+.

PC
X360
PS3
Wii

A ton of older consoles. All at my place. Come at me "PC gamers hate consoles!" bros.

we are discussing the fact that an 80 dollars card puts you in the same place graphically as PS360.

I call bullshit on this one, unless you like running most of your games at the mid/low settings. And why the hell would anyone build a computer solely based on equaling a console is beyond me.

I love how some people are saying, "I'm a console gamer because I like JRPGS." Because we all know how many JRPGs have been released on consoles this gen.

Handhelds are the true master race.
If I wrote about Handhelds it'd be a 10 page essay. Too much love.

Great points. Very similar to my criticisms, but much better elaborated.

Right?

Right?

You'd be wrong. An $80 4850 will outdo a PS3/360 easily.

Because many don't have tvs in the same room as their PCs. That's come up in this thread a whole bunch of times too.

Not everyone thinks that, but of course there are many many PC only gamers out there.

How can you call that douchebaggery yet praise one of the worst, most uninformed and hyperbolic posts in this thread?

I'm primarily a PC gamer, I've been gaming almost exclusively on PC since 1994. Most of what he said is absolutely true. The only thing that was an exaggeration is that virtually no PC game works out of the box, but it still happens more often than it should. It's true, however, that virtually no PC game works out of the box for someone since there's a limitless amount of different hardware combinations (I'm talking strictly about configurations that satisfy the requirements, of course) and no game can account for all of them.

It seems like what you get out of this thread is that console only gamers believe a lot of stuff about PC gaming that isn't true and when you try to show them it isn't true they think you are lying.

I say this as someone who, up until 6 months ago, never played PC games ever. I was a console gamer since the Atari 2600. The quality, quanity and price of games on a service like Steam blows my damn mind. It makes Xbox Live AND PSN both look shitty by comparison.

TheExodu5 said:
Yeah, but we actually game on our consoles.

We? Taking sides are you? :p

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a PC that isn't used for some form of gaming.

I know that I game on consoles over PCs because of the games that come out for it. I don't need the most cutting edge graphics available. I only expect games to look as good as the system they are on. I still play NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1 & 2, Gamecube, Xbox, DS, and PSP games without any problems. PC games just don't have quality or quantity of games that I look for or love.

I stay away from any Ubisoft PC port. I had a horrible experience ( RB6 Vegas ) they did a crappy port and almost zero support.

PC ports being worse than console is hit or miss. FPS's with dedicated servers are an obvious plus for PC not to mention true HD resolutions. But I have had some terrible, terrible, terrible ports to the PC. Hit or miss.

I just assume people either live with their parents still where they have their own room, live in a dorm room, or live in a studio apartment. I have a dedicated office on my second floor, there is no way to run my computer to the TV downstairs.

TheExodu5 said:
How is he wrong? I'm pretty sure many console gamers in this thread have said that they don't want to set up a gaming PC because they're lazy. It's not an insult...

Zefah said:
How is that an example of "PC gamer elitism"? A lot of people are really fucking lazy. Hell, a good number of console-only people in here have stated their laziness as a reason for not touching PCs.

:lol This thread is hilarious. Calling people lazy isn't an insult, or an example of elitism? OK now.... :lol

The guy wanted an example and it was right there.

All fine reasons. You're making the right choice for you.

I'd rather play real games. There is nothing close to Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Earthbound, Dragon Quest, Mega Man, Muramasa, No more Heros, Demon Souls, Ikaruga, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, REZ or Jet Set Radio, etc. on PC, so why would I bother with it.

I like Valve and Blizzard and lothe Bioware and Bethesda. I switched over to Mac in the recent years and for the 2 PC game developers I like, I can play all their games on it.

Whenever I get around to getting a new desktop (mine died last March), I'll be glad to try both Witcher games. I don't hate PC gaming or PC gamers at all, but I think the only games I'd try on the PC are ones that have no console version. Its like that and thats the way it is.

I see people saying this all the time and want to buy one. But do I need a wired 360 controller or can I just buy any 360 controller and plug it in?

If it needs to be a wired controller - where the hell do I find one? All the shops here in Norway has the wireless controller but no wired controller. Anyone have an idea?
