I really question my resolve in a situation where I need a large amount of ammunition. At this point, I have way more slugs that I'm, realistically, never going to shoot. I should have just bought buckshot, at least that's semi-practical.
Hey, if nothing else if this blows over you have a fun range day shooting watermelons and two-liters in your future.

Yelp, you can put Greece on the list. Local media is reporting a 38 years old woman was found positive . She had recently traveled to Italy.

The best of Coronavirus panic mode here in Italy

1) Supermarkets with meat/milk/butter sections (and salt too surprisingly) empty in most cities, even those that have few cases or no cases at all
Nothing surprising at all about the salt. Always get salt. If you run out of everything, you'll die from lack of electrolytes long before the lack of food gets to you. Having salts and potassium to put in your drinking water makes it much easier to go days between meals as well.

I am not as proud of them after finding out they still have flights to China all that time
I'm pretty sure most countries have maintained flights with China. I've checked a few times and they've always had flights to the UK. Some friends I know have recently flew back to other European countries. While many airlines have stopped flights, there are still a few options.

The flight I usually take to Shanghai from Atlanta is canceled, but the JFK flights are still going

Savage but mostly true. However, a lot of working class people will get sick and will spend time in quarantine, hospitals, at home etc. which will result in a significant financial loss across all sectors. It could start a recession.

Well it won't start a recession because afterwards everybody will simply get back to working and buying shit. Absolute economic engagement will continue to increase. It might cause a pause but so what. Stock markets with their bullshit speculation need to be cut down to size.

I believe the US government restricted Chinese flights to a handful of airports that could handle the screening.

We just received approval to reopen our Suzhou facility with 60% staff last night/China morning.
Next week another 30% will be through the 14 day quarantine (since they arrived from outside the city)
We expect to be at 100% by the 15th of March.

This also applies to a large proportion of the cargo ships that set off from China for Europe. Almost up to 90% have been stopped in the last few weeks and have not sailed to Europe (the voyage takes about 6 weeks), but capacity is gradually being ramped up again.

Due to the long travel time, this also means that Europe will only feel some economic cuts in the coming weeks, as especially areas such as medicine etc. are dependent on deliveries from China.

One person is suspected of having the virus. Everyone gets sent home:
There has to be more to this virus than what’s being said in public. The reactions to COVID-19, are completely out of the norm. My kid’s elementary school is sending out emails from the CDC, and talking about what the school year will look like if they have to start implementing online and remote lessons. There has to be a massive amount of information behind the scenes that says this virus is really bad.

I tend to not be reactionary to things, I like to keep things rational and logical in my thought process surrounding stuff like this. And yet, I'd be lying if I'd say i haven't had the exact same thoughts as this. Everything about the reactions to this virus has been unprecedented, and we are probably only partially aware of the full situation. It is kind of unsettling to think about.

Good, at this point it is obvious these types of measures need to be taken to minimize the spread.
I can see why they done it – better safe than sorry and all that – but I can't see this sort of thing going down well on a large scale here in London.

I've noticed the media are going back to the Prince Harry and Meghan bs here in the UK. It's almost feels like a distraction.

My company has outright banned travel to Mainland China and South Korea, and placed a requirement to get approval from the President to travel to Japan, Italy, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore. We are a Japanese company with offices in every one of those countries.

But that’s needed, put the economy on the back burner, simple as that.

I'm not disagreeing with what they've done. It's just incredible how one person being suspected of having the virus can cause the sending home of 300 employees.

It’s almost like they want the economy to collapse within the next eight months for some reason...

The real problem with this virus is that 99% of the person on this forum would just thing it is a normal seasonal ill, mostly cause ... it is kinda it.

If the worst comes to the worst, I'm jumping off my roof whilst listening to the Robocop soundtrack.
If we can lock ourselves in our basements with a stock of enough frozen tendies, we should be able to weather any storm without risking infection.

some good news hopefully. As always keep your expectations in check though.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, is beginning tests of an antiviral drug on a passenger from the Diamond Princess cruise ship and preparing a new coronavirus vaccine for human testing, according to Time magazine.

The antiviral drug remdesivir, developed for Ebola, is being tested on a patient who was brought to the US from the cruise ship after being infected with the virus. Others diagnosed with COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, will also take part in the study. Remdesivir showed encouraging results among animals infected with two related coronaviruses – those causing severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), according to Time.

Need help from Canada/Toronto GAF. Any idea where to get masks around these parts? Shoppers and Walmart are sold out. Would painting/sanding masks from Canadian Tire do the trick?

I feel like this is old news, article is new though. Maybe the US testing is new? I think Chiner was doing it last month.

"The U.S. remdesivir study is scheduled to be completed in April 2023, but researchers could have preliminary results within a year"

Hrumph.

I dont worry about me as I'm healthy and fit. Its loved ones that scare me. Having family members that are already having hard time recovering from influenza due to respiratory problems I'm sure as hell scared to think what kind of havoc corona will cause to them and whether it will be deadly. As much I would love to think this as a just another flu the unconscious people from the videos of China paint a grim picture. So yea I have already bought masks, disinfectants and extra food. I think I and all of us would much better be safe then sorry.
