Seriously? This is ridiculous come on now. Humanity has to come together to fight this shit, obviously lockdown for that long is not ideal and probably won't happen but the conspiracy crap just hurts people.

How does it hurt anyone? The dude just knows human nature doesn't typically entail "coming together" for the greater good if it means they lose everything while other folks are just fine. At some point the have nots are going to get fed up and start heading out to take from the haves.

Why would it peak at only 30-50k a day?

These are of course the figures based on Italy. Since the USA is somewhat slower there, the number of cases will perhaps also be significantly higher. Let's wait and see, but I think we can almost safely say that if a country manages to break the million mark of infected people, then we should bet on the USA. The European countries currently have better chances of preventing this.

What are you basing any of this one, out of curiosity?

Just peddling a different kind of fear, get all the gun owners frothing at the mouth to over turn a government lol its dumb.

I think the problem with that, at least in the US is that things are going to be spreading at all different rates due to different types of lockdowns, the population density, habits, etc.

That's right. This is also the case in Germany (and obviously in other countries like Italy etc.). The spread of the disease varies considerably from region to region and some regions will sooner relax the measures they have initiated. Fortunately, this is also an opportunity for the countries to keep the economy alive.

Do you really think his post has that kind of power? Do you really think so little of the people who might be reading it?

I know any illness can affect anyone differently, but I have to wonder why some young people feel no symptoms whatsoever and some are absolutely ravaged by it. It’s definitely more than just “being in great shape.”

One good thing from this is lowered pollution a shit ton lol. Maybe it pushed some climate change stuff back a bit, and maybe people will enjoy the cleaner air and take it more serious. Of course can only look at from inside your window lmao

Apart from certain experiences and interest in the last years in this field, my statements are based on projections and studies known for years or decades, on the course of an epidemic and on the effects of countermeasures depending on the time of implementation. In this thread there were already many good links.
Europe is currently ahead of the US in the implementation of important actions like lockdowns. Just a few days can make a huge difference in the percentage of the total number of infections.

Kind of a dumb argument to make on a forum. I don't think what any of us says matters lol. But need to do something while I take a dump!

A few days can make a difference for sure, but it doesn't seem like there is enough clarity here to speak with confidence. The efficacy of the various countermeasures seem to differ dramatically depending on the country.

I'm not the one trying to control what people can say. Apologies if I'm misunderstanding your intent.

We should study the race gender identity and sexual orientation of each victim. I am going to take a guess and say that the virus is most likely racist, sexist, homophobic and transphobic. I doubt it even uses the correct pronouns when it infects people.

I think that piece on NBC said it best, you either recover or you die. I aint no scientist but it probably has to do with how it reacts in your lungs. Those who don't get it bad probably didn't really managed to cling onto their lungs, while those who get it worse/die most likely the thing took hold and held on for dear life. Its possible we find out that getting coughed on is worse than touching it on a metal surface, vs touching it on a plastic surface etc.... But that type of research is probably years away.

For anybody curious about what life in China (outside of Wuhan) is like right now, I can't recommend this 10 minute from a Japanese reporter highly enough:

I don't live in Nanjing (where this was filmed), but the situation is exactly the same in the Chinese city where I am living. Note that the situation was very different last month, where pretty much everything was closed except for food markets etc. As you can see from the video, right now there is a kind of semi-lockdown in place. Only time will tell if this will be enough to prevent a resurgence of the virus here.

While I'm not going to out and out call that CCP State propaganda, I will point out that is exactly what state propaganda looks like.

And celebrating the ability of a techno-communist country to add layers upon layers of authoritarian bureaucracy on everything isn't exactly a leap. Of course they will excel at that.

There are some good ideas in there, though. Stay at home classes look dope. We are doing it here too but nowhere near that level. Empty elevator technic is solid. I like the extra precautions around delivered food... though they may not even work, creating a feeling of safety will reduce panic.

Heck, a lot of these precautions are great if you are willing to live in a heavily enforced bureaucratic police state. I'm not, even if that means some people will do stupid stuff.

Some bad ones too:
3:35 he runs his hand along the protective plastic
4:20 bare handed grab of strap in subway.
4:30 odd banter about racism against asians for wearing masks?
5:30 walling off entire neighborhoods wtf. I get what they are trying to accomplish, but that is wild
7:06 people walking around with masks around their necks
9:50 massive blurring of everything implies this is CCP approved video following their regulations. If they told him to blur this for approval, we have no idea what else may have been removed/etc.

Interesting video. I'll take recommended soft quarantine over that any day, though.

I have a feeling overactive immune systems might have something to do with it. Making your defenses go into overdrive and building up fluid in your lungs.

I wouldn’t be surprised if overactive immune systems are just as deadly as being immune compromised when all is said and done.

I doubt it's a CCP approved video per se, but he's a foreigner running a business in China, so he's not going to post anything that would bring down the authorities on him. I'm honestly kind of surprised he even showed as much of reality as he did, but I suppose Nanjing is far enough away from Wuhan that just showing daily reality is not going to bring down the hammer.

Also, I think he blurred those sections specifically for privacy, because they were showing the hotels in which his colleagues were staying.

I saw that in a video somewhere. The cells start attacking anything and then they basically drown you.

Seems logical as well.

When we get this kind of news we only have a very small understanding of that person. There are so many unknown factors. For example, do they smoke? What's their diet like? Did they have any previous illnesses or have undiagnosed illnesses? That chick in the vid posted a while back looks perfectly okay but turns out she is a smoker. She might be smoking one a cigarette a day or three packs a day. Who knows for sure.

Dude I have been here from the beginning and some of these theories are getting out of control.

Some good news is that my companies China office, which has been closed for over a month, is opening again next week. My companie is American based and they wouldn’t be reopening if some massive cover up was going on.

Not ideal? How is 80% of the country unemployed and homeless just "not ideal"?

Yes, this is possible too. I think you can still easily figure out what building it is if you live there, though.

I don't think anything in there would bring down the CCP. It is very positive about all of the precautions, not a critical word.

Another conspiracy theory but y'all think Italy might start fudging the numbers to keep people placated? Not saying North Korea style, but show a downward trend for a few days in a row even its just a small % lie just to give people some hope.

Ya its tin foil hat Alex Jones level, but I think keeping people respecting the quarantines might be worth a small white lie.

Time to reset the consumerism and capitalistic mentality. And hopefully we come out of this better then when we entered it. Going to be hard times ahead for sure but thats what happens during a global pandemic, buy we can get through if the whole world works together!

...optimism feels so weird lol

Now 14K...

With 12K coming from New York.

Its a bid misleading since NY is such a huge part of those numbers.

All these trackers are getting confusing now. Man the old days it was one update, maybe SK did twice a day. Now everyone updates at all different times and USA is a running one so its hard to keep track of whats increasing/decreasing.

I went to a funeral this weekend (I know that it was a poor practice of social distancing). It was surreal. All the chairs in the chapel were 5-6 feet apart and there was almost no one directly comforting the grieving family. It made me come to a realization of the deeper problems that we are facing now and in the coming months

There is definitely going to be a societal mental heath toll from social distancing. Humans are very social creatures. Group gatherings are one of the most important ways that we cope with life. Whether it’s dealing with grief or celebrating success, these events such as funerals, weddings, graduations, and birthday parties are an important part of who we are as a people. While these events are likely going to be impossible or frowned upon in the near term, we need to find a way to cope together, but apart. This virus will only aggravate mental health conditions like depression. Suicides, self harm, substance abuse and other nonsocial behaviors are only going to get worse in the coming months. Please check on your friends and family. Use technology to spend time together. Help the grieving to do so. Celebrate however you can. Don’t let people be completely alone and cut off from the world.

This virus is doing enough damage on its own, let us strive to keep the auxiliary mental health damage to a minimum.

Yeah, I mean in reality it's a lot more. Just have to hope that the other states get up to speed in their testing.

The worldometer resets each day, so I just try to go by that.. but yeah, it's everywhere now, and testing is ramping up, so more cases should be expected. If we start seeing Italy-level deaths everywhere.. that'd be ungood.

Your reading comprehension is pathetic. Take a deep breath and take a break from the internet. Everything will be ok as long as we are all responsible with our actions.

My reading comprehension is fine. You said:

Time to reset the consumerism and capitalistic mentality.

If you want to spout your socialist communist bullshit, there's a forum for that.

There would be no point in hiding the numbers now, that would only make sense in the beginning of the spread.

its actually better if they’d forge the number upwards because they would get bigger financial support, but I highly doubt thats the case, their numbers have been consistent to whats expected, and its clear they are way over their heads so most deaths come from not having any health assistance.

Yea I'm sure you're giddy with excitement to see people's lives ruined just to get your little revolution here.
You are so wrong. I have kids, my oldest is a 13 year old boy who had his last year of youth baseball cancelled cause of this. I basically live to coach kids and missing this final year with all these boys I've coached since kindergarten is killing me. So go fuck yourself with that bullshit.

I agree in not now, but lets say in a week from now If Italy keeps getting 5-6K and 600+ deaths a day maybe the round down a bit to try and convince the public that the measures are working.

Though I do agree its probably unlikely. But then again we might be seeing this in China right now.
