As a crash fan I can't play this on anything but ps4. Although I hope it comes to at least pc so we can finally mod this game if it dies in the future.

Modding is the only reason I care about this going multiplat tbh. Gotta have that original Clancy Brown Cortex dialogue back in 2 and 3.

TBH, Crash is better off being exclusive since that's what the IP was known for being. An answer to Nintendo's Mario and Sega's Sonic.

Can't wait. Imagine custom levels.

TBH I always though classic Crash would be a fun game to have a level editor + sharing.

The classic corridor levels + some 2D bits are just accessible enough in their design to work with something like that.

I think it will show up on everything.

It will sell 80% or more of its copies on PlayStation so I dont think Sony give a damn really.

It is baffling that Sony and Activision have not provided a straight answer on the exclusivity status of the game (make sense for Sony to not want to admit it's not, but still), you'd think if it was exclusive they'd be as clear as possible.

Plus, Sony works with Activision on marketing for COD and Destiny no? Those are multiplatform games.

Marketing is not the same as working on bringing a game to market.

From the horse's mouth: ''Well, Sony approached us and Activision to bring this to the Playstation 4 and Playstation 4 Pro''
https://youtu.be/uGy76CftGws?t=18s

Yeah lots of evidence but also no clear statement. So who knows.

I'm buying a PS4 for the Crash Trilogy no doubt, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't double dip for a Switch version. Having a new 3D Mario, Crash, and potentially Yooka Laylee on the go would be incredible.

Crash is a heritage mascot for Sony. From a branding perspective it makes sense to me that Sony would moneyhat this to keep these classic PS titles in the family. I don't see these going to any other platform.

So was Lara Croft. Didn't stop the last Tomb Raider having a years console exclusivity on the Xbox.

Are Sony willing to cover the lost income from Xbox and PC to keep an old mascot on their system?

The first Tomb Raider game was released for Sega Saturn, PC, and PlayStation. It was never strongly seen as a PS franchise. Crash was practically the unofficial mascot for Sony in NA in the early years.

Considering where Crash is as a franchise, pretty much dead and buried prior to this resurrection, I would figure a timed exclusivity deal would cost Sony peanuts. A far cry from Rise of the Tomb Raider, which was the sequel to a reboot of a franchise that was on an upward trajectory at the time, before the exclusivity deal.

I have been watching a lot of direct feed videos and so long i like what Vicarious Visions has done over the original versions.

Here's another direct feed i found on youtube for the game. It has some blurbs of commentary in spanish but otherwise it has some nice 10 minutes of the PSX demo in 1080P 60 fps.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5hC6qLPSEI&t=339s

Let's hope we can see more of the N. Sane trilogy early in 2017.

Yea. I agree with this. But I feel like it'll launch on PS4 only and then on the others months after.

Why would they have to? Sony owns the first three games. Activision can't put them on Xbox/Switch without Sony's okay. It's a two way street.

So there's no official word on exclusivity here? So most likely timed then?

Never been a big Crash fan but I know someone who doesn't own a PS4 but loved the Crash trilogy so an Xbox One release would make him very happy.

Looking at most of the footage available, it has grew on me, it's just the tiny things in areas that could be improved. The UI stuff and font that's already been mentioned, some of Crash's animations, and for me, the music and SFX.

Mainly the music because there seems to be a MAJOR LACK OF COMMUNICATION between whoever's doing the new versions and the original composer (who has said he'd be happy to work on these games and STILL has the original masters for the music he made). The one problem is that these remixed tracks are just being based off the compressed console PlayStation mixes, which lacked certain effects and were shortened in some area, when the original composer has the full versions available still and has even posted some tracks online to show the difference!

For example, let's take Heavy Machinery, here's the big band loop part in the remake:
https://youtu.be/ddogMUuGndw?t=2m50s

Here's the PlayStation mix it's based off:
https://youtu.be/-lFwchGSkes

And yet, here's the original Master version:
https://soundcloud.com/joshmancell/...=joshmancell/sets/music-for-video-games-crash

You can hear extra layers to the track which really add to it and the sound quality is better for most instruments. So I'm just curious as to WHY they are ignoring to work with someone who actually worked on those games, and someone who actually wouldn't mind working on these games again. It's insane, he's got all the masters for the tracks and for the demo tracks and unused stuff just sitting their in his studio!

Wh-why would they not have the original composer for this? Is there any way we could get that to happen???

There WAS an attempt to get Activision/VV in contact with Josh Mancell to get him involved over the summer but it didn't go nowhere.

I wasn't particularly a fan of the Crash games but UC4 made me feel nostalgic and this looks charming. May just buy for my nephew next year.

The only consumers who benefit from this being exclusive are console warriors.

Even if your first sentence is true, your second is absolutely false.

Despite being multiplatform, Lara Croft was absolutely marketed as a PlayStation icon, same way Rayman was. And Square Enix clearly knows this:

Was it seen as a PS game wrt console platforms? Sure. But most of my friends played the TR games on PC. Crash was a much much bigger PS brand. Those first three games and CTR were PS exclusives. It was the Mario/Sonic of PlayStation. So Sony has every reason to want to keep this game as a PS exclusive for marketing purposes. I mean after all they launched the PS4 with that Crash and SCE logo sign.

In my mind Crash has black eyes not green, at least he did in the OG. Graphics look good but... tooooo bright, the water looks bad, the OG water looked better comparatively speaking adjusting the technology used, and Crash's voice ruins it... he sounds nothing like the OG voice... it's so off... so so off... might just play it muted.

I think Crash might've had black eyes in Japan.

As for his voice... where are you hearing all this dialogue? I just rewatched the trailer and the official b-roll, and all I'm hearing is his "Woah!" death cry, which sounds fairly close to the original to me.

Even in the new intro his "Uh oh!" sounds super close to the original.

I am not sure why people are wondering about its exclusivity . The first 3 games were published by Sony . They own those first 3 games. And this is a remaster for those 3 games so I am kinda pretty sure positive it's not coming to any other console .

Been out of this thread for a while. Have they said anything about being in contact/consulting with Naughty Dog rather than just studying the game for themselves, or have Naughty Dog themselves said anything related to this?

Its not the same naughty, the oldest guy on ND staff is a dude who came in just as they were in production of Crash 3.

What would they have to say anyway? At most i could see the founders of ND talk, but they have not been apart of ND for a long time.

The weird thing about exclusivity seems to hinge on weather or not Activision actually owns the rights to the game or just the franchise itself. The first three games were never released on a non Sony console, which leads me to believe that Sony, at least in part, owns something of them.

The interesting thing now, is what does Sony do if this game is successful? Like do they say "hey we'll sell you the license to the first three games" if you make Crash 4 and make it PS exclusive? Or does Activision just go ahead and make Crash 4 seperately and multi format with the knowledge that they can never release any part of the N Sanity collection again?

Edit: Also about the Tomb Raider thing, Sony, back in the day, I believe negotiated some kinda contract with Eidos where they couldn't release any Tomb Raider games past the first on either Saturn or N64. So yeah for much TR heyday it was strictly a Playstation property.

Naughty Dog still have some great artists from the Crash days. Erick Pangilinan was there from Crash and he was heavily involved in the art of The Last of Us so I don't see the harm in at least consulting someone who had a hand in the original games.

Is there a video of anybody trying to 100% Heavy Machinery?

I'm most curious about what they do with Crash 3. That's the game that needs the most work/changes on the gameplay front. Can they make the vehicle stages in Crash 3 not suck? This will be the biggest test for them.

I hope they remove or rebalance some of the powerups. The super spin and fruit bazooka made the later platforming stages way too easy.

I never liked the idea of unlockable abilities. Everything Crash can do should be available from the start and the entire game should be balanced around that moveset. The bazooka was a dumb feature anyway and should be removed entirely. The super spin made it so you didn't have to time your spin as well so yeah remove that too. The only ability that had somewhat of a reason to be there was the sprint button since that gives the time trials a bit more fun, and there's no reason that cant be there as a standard ability from the start.

Crash 3 is the only game of the 3 where I'd say the level design or gameplay itself needs tweaking. With Crash 1 it just needed a slight improvement for the jump controls to match 2/3, and a better save system. Crash 2 needs no changing whatsoever.

What if this game is like Tony Hawks Pro Skater HD?

Alternatively, what if this game is like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 where Activision are churning out a cheap effort just to keep the licensing rights? Obviously not considering what we've seen so far, but there are a lot of people who say this has a cheap look to it.

I don't know if I'd call it cheap. It just looks....off. It's a stylistic thing. The visuals just don't seem right. But this is coming from someone who has played the originals to death, so the change just seems jarring. I had a similar reaction when I first saw Oddworld New n Tasty but eventually I got used to the look.
