Most of older GAF (myself included) grew up playing in arcades in the 90s. I imagine many grew out of the relentless gaybashing and misogyny phase when they left their teenage years.
These guys traveling around to tournaments built the scene and companies like Capcom, Mad Catz, Namco, etc. are now profiting from this. Some of these guys never asked to be streamed yet they're a big reason why people watch.
Now that the scene has gotten much bigger and more exposure people want to police it so it can actually expand. Do they want it to expand for the scene or do they want it to expand to make more money?
The stream chat is bad too. It's just a bunch of internet trolls making a bunch of jokes and a lot of guys feed into it. LI Joe literally had a stream where he is calling people in the FGC looking to find out all the drama. Some of these players just entertain the audience who is watching.
