I'm 45 minutes in. I still can't believe that you guys have made board game mechanics interesting enough to hear out, but I still can't imagine playing 1.

1. Can you somehow add an overwrought narrative or Yoko Shimomura music to any of these?

2. If not, can you recommend a good wargame?

Edit: 3. I WILL NOT HAVE ALEXANDER O. SMITH MOCKERY IN THIS HOUSE.

Not much of a board gamer myself, but I'll shuffle through my friends' stuff from time to time, and Chaos in the Old World is one of the coolest games I've watched them play.

I loved the board game talk but those shots at Carcassonne wound me! I have to disagree with Robert on the themes of Euro games. Though the current ones may have clearer themes than Catan, it still feels like an afterthought to me. Which isn't really a problem for me, as I would rather have solid mechanics than a good theme.

And also, to correct Kevin on a minor point in Power Grid, the player in first place is the one who gets to buy power plants first.

So every book they talked about was part of a series? Anyone else find that annoying?

Why do fantasy novels always want to be a part of a larger series?

Whats wrong with Martin anyway? You guys just danced around it. I've never read the books but the OT seems in love with the series

Did you guys ever do a nook vs kindle face off in a previous episode since Doug has a nook and Kevin has a kindle
I'm pretty happy with the kindle app on my ipod touch but I'm thinking of upgrading

Torchlight on XBLA is actually really good and it handles great with the controller. There may be some framerate drops but honestly most console gamers probably don't care about petty stuff like that, anyway.

Just discovered this podcast while looking for board game recommendations. Actually got a group interested in trying one out so we're looking for an entry level pick. Sounds like Dominion is a safe bet. (Although I've seen varying opinions on which expansions were necessary/detrimental)

Also enjoyed the fantasy book discussion. I just got finished reading through ASoIaF, which I really enjoyed, but I don't have much exposure to the genre. I've gone through Cloud Atlas, some Franzen, biographies, and various other nonfiction/fiction over the past few months but no fantasy outside of Martin. Might actually give the genre a shot now.

Dominion is a great game. I'd recommend it too. I had a blast learning the base set alone.

It's been too long. Need more Cruncheons debauchery.

Yeah, I was just looking at the posting schedule for these and they seem to have been on a pretty regular weekly (or biweekly at least) schedule till the last one. Least I got quite a backlog to go through from previous weeks.

Excellent! Checking out Drakensang right now thanks to the podcast's recommendation. Got a substantial backlog of books/games to get through, though, so I have a feeling I might be waiting a bit to pull the trigger on the purchase. Love the look of the game, though, and it seems like it'll quench that unhealthy desire I've had of late to purchase DA2.

Torchlight has some ugly stuttering and it does that annoying 60fps with no enemies/~30fps with enemies thing....but look at all a dat loot.

I like it better than Sacred 2, though I think both are great examples of loot games on consoles (an underrepresented genre)
