Yeah, Ryse's graphics were ahead of is time but so what if the game was about as dull and uninspired as you could get. The only possible thing saving it from total mediocrity is the setting because we don't really have that many action games set in ancient Rome, but by god, that game is only 5 hours long but feels twice its length because of how repetitive the gameplay is.

The thread is about two powerhouse developers when it comes to visual prowess and when crytek jumped to console the crysis games took huge steps backwards in their visual prowess and design. And until hunt:showdown which I consider half a good game they kind of failed upwards in regards to what they were so great at with crysis and far cry prior

Why don't you understand that we are talking about them being a visual and design powerhouse

This isn't a thread about "who does better business"

They should of stayed on PC because they were better at producing top of line games when they were PC only. It's not rocket science here, you realise it's just a comment about how the downfall of crytek and their dominance in technology came from switching to console development

doesnt matter.. the games speak for themselves... crytek games have always had top technology from crysis warhead to ryse son of rome but the games just didnt hold up visually because they dont have better artists than naughty dog... engineers are very bad artists you know. you can give a bad artist all the technology, raytracing, infinite polygons and textures but hell still make an ugly game!...

This is where sony have always had the edge, their games have a production quality that a few in the industry can match... out of my head only electronic arts, the coalition, playground games, warner bros the team that made arkham knight and take two can match sony first party production quality levels. Crytek not really fam... crytek are good engine developers and im sure crysis 4 will be full of next gen features like fully dynamic lighting and nanite stuff but it wont look better than a new naughty dog game.

I just recently completed Crysis remastered on my ps5 and it's trash tier compared to say uncharted and both launched the same year. I had fun but I put it on easy to finish it asap. Any longer then 7 hours I'd have been bored.

There's a reason naughty dog are still relevant and crytek are struggling to exist.

I certainly wouldn't use the original Uncharted as an example. Uncharted 2 vs Crysis 2, sure, Uncharted 2 is much better. Uncharted is just a shooting gallery of whack-a-mole.

They take diffrent approaches. Both are pretty much the best in their field. Overall id say naughty dog is a bit ahead if i had to choose. But Sony has multiple top dogs now since they share tools and menpower. Guerilla and Santa monica are insane as well. This probably is only going to Happen with more studios from Sony. Bluepoint already is a contender and will only improve as well as insomniac. Also housemarque had a few unique render things going on etc pp.

Also old crytek sadly doesnt exist anymore.

ND at this point is the best visual and animation Dev team. I would say The Coalition and the tech that Ninja Theory are working on now are going to get similar-ish results, but ND has vastly more experience at pushing detail to the max especially due to their long dev cycles. Unreal 5 should provide a lot of Dev teams a sort of a short cut to get with in touching distance of ND, but never really take over or be on the same level.

People are seriously downplaying prime crytek and its sad....some people seriously arguing for uncharted 2 compared to crysis. I love naughty dog and currently they have the best artists and are top3 technical powerhouses for sony and even beyond but please dont try to downplay the sheer prowess crytek displayed in their prime.

I still think even on consoles
crytek games were more advanced the tech and visuals like DF said even the cinematic were real-time in-game, while all ND games cutscenes were (FMV) video files plus their games are more linear than crysis games
For example this is in-game real time you can even move the camera on the characters with the controller but you can't find in uncharted 3 or last of us a real time in game cutscene that looks better

while crytek were 100% using in engine realtime cutscenes

those pics aren't entirely truthful considering the've been considerably shrunk down and compressed, and knowing internet people, probably touched up a bit too.

blow those same images out to 720p (i assume that is what the res of 360 ver was) on a 1080p screen upscaled and run the game at 20 fps and it's a different story

Apparently 90% of the people in this thread didn't read the OP. The main focus (and ONLY focus) of this discussion is who's better at visuals and graphics.

That answer resoundingly goes to Crytek. End of discussion.

Crisis compared to a Naughty Dog game is a tech demo. Literally the game was made to show off their Crytek engine. Like others have said, that Crytek doesn't exist. The Hunt Showdown would be a better comparison because it's their most recent game released. More representative of their capabilities.

Naughty Dog is home to the ICE Team, so no doubt if they worked on PC, they could have made a graphically demanding game to rival Crisis at the time.

Yeah but it's way more engaging then Crysis comically bad story and the AI... Let's put it this way I can't ever see myself replaying Crysis. Uncharted 1 got plenty of playthroughs.

I think the exact opposite. Crysis's sandbox nature and toolset allows for a lot more freedom and creativity than Uncharted. The mission structure and environments also allow for multiple different approaches. You don't have to do anything in any specific order and you're given quite a bit of free reign.

Uncharted is literally a corridor shooter with waves after waves of enemies with a puzzle thrown in for some change.

I have no idea how you can replay Uncharted over and over. It's ridiculously repetitive and the enemy variety is next to 0. 2 fixed A LOT of these problems.

Nah the story is bad lol.

I played The Nathan Drake collection and beat all three Uncharted games in like a week. I had played them individually back then, but 2 holds up incredibly well. By far the best balance of story, humor, and action. They never managed to strike this perfect mix with the others. 4 has the best gameplay by a wide margin but way too much dialogue and talking for my liking.

Crysis after the first one isn't really worth playing. 2 and 3 have their moments but meh. The whole alien plotline is fucking stupid.
