If that is the case, it will be a redesign of their GBA handheld.
There is no way Nintendo is jeopardizing their profitable GBA business anytime soon.
Fixed for 2003.

Not surprising. What is surprising is that they straight up came out and said it.
What does one have to do with the other?I'm surprised anyone believed this in the first place, especially since Nintendo has already stated they aren't having a press conference at E3 again this year.
Anybody who thought that Nintendo would reveal a new console right at the launch of Mario Kart and before the launch of Smash Bros, and right at the reveal of Zelda, wasn't thinking very deeply about it in the first place.

Then again, Nintendo didn't release a denial on their own, they responded to someone else.
Didn't they announce the Wii at E3 2005, a year and a half before Zelda: TP came out? Not that I believe this rumor, but yeah.Anybody who thought that Nintendo would reveal a new console right at the launch of Mario Kart and before the launch of Smash Bros, and right at the reveal of Zelda, wasn't thinking very deeply about it in the first place.
Who cares as long as it's click-worthy, mirite?
Remember when they said they weren't working on a 3DS revision, then like a month later they announced the XL?
I'm not saying they are going to reveal new hardware - I don't think they are - but at the same time, I don't think this disproves it either. Especially weird for Nintendo to deny it instead of the usual 'no comment'.
I think nintendo should take this as a sign when a mere off the wall rumor of new hardware causes such commotion.
It seems Nintendo sent denials to everyone, also in Europe, I saw a lot of reports on twitter.

Slightly different, since TP was the second Zelda game for the 'cube, and all of the system's heavy hitters were long since released by that point.

Indeed. The successor is coming next year, and I can see an E3 announcement with an early 2015 launch as reasonable enough.Kinda like how all the heavy hitters except Smash 3D, which comes out in summer, for the 3DS are already out.

One and done. Why would they admit they are going to release hardware if they want to keep it a surprise?

They actually just means they won't reveal one at E3 because they aren't attending E3. clearly it will be revealed during their video, recorded in a different location!
Wynnebeck, please. Nintendo never commented so clearly on a laughable wrong rumor.
Nintendo commenting on rumors and speculation is breaking precedent, correct?

So the rumor was bullshit? Shocking.
Btw I told you so.

Agreed, but it's definitely coming next year.If they don't announce it at this E3 that likely means it is a holiday 2015 release and they are going to save the announcement for next year, sorta like how the DS was announced the year it came out. They might also issue an announcement that they will release a new handheld in 2015 at the end of this year, sorta like with the DS.
Probably so they could avoid the media shitstorm when something doesn't get announced. I can imagine the headlines.
"Why wasn't Wii U's replacement shown?"
"Nintendo cancels new hardware, going third party?"
