CVG: No Nintendo hardware reveal this E3 company confirms

Not surprising. What is surprising is that they straight up came out and said it.

Indeed. They can't afford to let something like this build if it isn't true or even if it is. They need people buying hardware now and not holding off even longer to see if something else might be coming. Nintendo is doubling down on the Wii U, as they should with games and hopefully marketing. Mario Kart 8 is right around the corner and nothing can get in it's way.

I still expect hardware of some kind. Along the lines of perhaps a new controller for Smash Bros. They have been releasing new Wii motes. Or something related to NFC if they aren't only going to be using what's in the gamepad. If any rumors actually spread it's more then likely related to something like this.

I'm surprised anyone believed this in the first place, especially since Nintendo has already stated they aren't having a press conference at E3 again this year.

Anybody who thought that Nintendo would reveal a new console right at the launch of Mario Kart and before the launch of Smash Bros, and right at the reveal of Zelda, wasn't thinking very deeply about it in the first place.

Who cares as long as it's click-worthy, mirite?

I can easily believe them announcing and releasing some kind of revision this year, but E3 is not the usual place to do that, I think the last time they did was the Game Boy Micro. If a Wii U or 3ds revision happens I'd expect a 2 month gap tops between announcement and release.

Remember when they said they weren't working on a 3DS revision, then like a month later they announced the XL?

I'm not saying they are going to reveal new hardware - I don't think they are - but at the same time, I don't think this disproves it either. Especially weird for Nintendo to deny it instead of the usual 'no comment'.

Didn't they announce the Wii at E3 2005, a year and a half before Zelda: TP came out? Not that I believe this rumor, but yeah.

Yeah, it became obvious that it was an utter load after the Videogamer report surfaced. Inside sources fail yet again, which is really no surprise.

They didn't say they are not working on a 3DS revision.

I think nintendo should take this as a sign when a mere off the wall rumor of new hardware causes such commotion.

If they don't have the "third pillar" ready for this E3, they're missing a huge opportunity. Now is the time. Not a year from now.

Sadly, it will probably be QOL or worse, actually nothing.

Slightly different, since TP was the second Zelda game for the 'cube, and all of the system's heavy hitters were long since released by that point.

Ha ha, yeah, didn't think a whole new platform would be announced, thats way too big way too soon and its only going to be negative to do it too soon.

That said... I remember Miyamoto saying "No new 3DS", few days later, 3DS XL was announced, ha ha, so who knows, ha ha.

I remember Nintendo being sneaky about this in the past.
My coworker waited on buying a 3ds because he was hoping that they would announce the XL. As soon as E3 was over he said "fuck it" and bought one.

Then like, three days later they announced the 3ds XL on a direct

The wheels on the bus go round and round, as usual. Ah well, Nintendo's Fiscal Year Earnings Release (for FY 2013) is on May 7 (with investor presentation the day after), so if anything we will probably know more about QOL and any other potential hardware for FY 2014/2015 and beyond.

It seems Nintendo registered "Advance" as a trademark. It's in the Extreme Volleyball thread.

Maybe a brand new 3DS version is coming (3DS Advance)?

3DS Revision incoming. Swap buttons in whatever order you like! But yea I highly doubt a new system would be coming at all one to two more years at least.

They actually just means they won't reveal one at E3 because they aren't attending E3. clearly it will be revealed during their video, recorded in a different location!

One and done. Why would they admit they are going to release hardware if they want to keep it a surprise?

Wynnebeck, please. Nintendo never commented so clearly on a laughable wrong rumor.

They are attending. And lol

Yeah, everybody goes back to the whole thing with Miyamoto denying any upcoming 3DS revisions, but wasn't he kind of ambushed with the question in an interview? Scrambling to answer something you know you're supposed to keep a secret is quite a bit different than releasing an official statement on the matter.

Nintendo commenting on rumors and speculation is breaking precedent, correct?

Not really. All companies take that stand, so not to set a precedent with media, but ignore it when necessary. As one of the other posters noted, they don't want anything to get in the way of the WiiU sales associated with MK8 & SSB.

Also, Nintendo's energy is directed at the success of MK8 right now. Whatever their R&D might be cooking up, it's no where near ready for primetime... I wouldn't even expect any real rumors until next year.

An don't forget that, despite what all the doom-sayers and gossip-mongers love to ignore, Nintendo did have the best selling gaming platform last year. Sure that did have a lot to do with the generation switch, but folks on the inside aren't panicing as much as many posters here want to think -- and they do have a crap-ton pile of money in the bank.

E3 for Nintendo will be all about MK8 & SSB and a wild push for increased WiiU sales. Don't expect much more, and certainly no bombshells that would direct attention away from this message.

And for goodness sakes people, stop bitchin' about Nintendo and buy a WiiU already! It's an awesome system that's getting the two most fun (maybe even best) multiplayer games of the year.

Nintendo commenting on rumors and speculation is breaking precedent, correct?

Probably so they could avoid the media shitstorm when something doesn't get announced. I can imagine the headlines.

"Why wasn't Wii U's replacement shown?"
"Nintendo cancels new hardware, going third party?"

Eh. If they show any kind of new hardware, I want it to be these things.

  • A revision of the original 3DS that is just "sleeker" looking and the same size as the original 3DS.
  • An announcement for the 2DS in Japan that includes a 2DS CPP.
  • The first of their QOL items.

There we go.

Indeed. The successor is coming next year, and I can see an E3 announcement with an early 2015 launch as reasonable enough.

If they don't announce it at this E3 that likely means it is a holiday 2015 release and they are going to save the announcement for next year, sorta like how the DS was announced the year it came out. They might also issue an announcement that they will release a new handheld in 2015 at the end of this year, sorta like with the DS.

not trying to defend him, but remember when they debunked the Nikei rumour about a 3DS XL? And Miyamoto even replied explicitely to the press?
And then, less than a month later...

So, I don't think that they will reveal anything, but one must never take Nintendo PR statements as truth until they have been proven to be.

Not really. This rumor only served to create false hype, which would harm them when they don't have plans to announce anything.

Agreed, but it's definitely coming next year.
