CVG: No Nintendo hardware reveal this E3 company confirms

Probably so they could avoid the media shitstorm when something doesn't get announced. I can imagine the headlines.

"Why wasn't Wii U's replacement shown?"
"Nintendo cancels new hardware, going third party?"

This isn't even an exaggeration, you're totally right. I can see the thread titles now.

Not really. This rumor only served to create false hype, which would harm them when they don't have plans to announce anything.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. By keeping silent, rumors would build and more people would get behind it and eventually expect it. Then, when E3 comes and they don't reveal anything, it will somehow be Nintendo's fault. I can see the headlines already.

If they announce anything, it'll be a revision

It's not that strange that they try to kill this rumor. They want people buying Wii U/Mario Kart 8.

I already read some commentaries like "I was planning to buy a Wii U but now that I know that they're going to introduce new hardware this E3, I won't do it".

If people think they're not going to focus on the platforms they have now, Wii U won't ever take off. They must create that "momentum" in order to increase the installed hardware base and regain the trust of the third parties.

Yeah, everybody goes back to the whole thing with Miyamoto denying any upcoming 3DS revisions, but wasn't he kind of ambushed with the question in an interview? Scrambling to answer something you know you're supposed to keep a secret is quite a bit different than releasing an official statement on the matter.

3DS XL: They said its a rumor and they won't comment on a rumor. Like always.

Would've been a strange move to reveal a new console (or even a revision of the Wii U) so close after the release of their most anticipated title this year (Mario Kart 8) which is supposed to sell Wii U-bundles.

Though in light of Iwata's comments recently it could have been a possibility.

Hmm if that's true then will Nintendo release QOL at next E3, at a separate event? Will their next handheld be released after their QOL? I guess there's always next E3

Even an official denial that Nintendo never does isn't stopping people from expecting a hardware reveal at E3?

Isn't Peer pretty credible? I know IGN as a whole isn't really, but it sounded like Peer was convinced.

"I understand why someone would consider what we discussed newsworthy, but this story completely ignores an important piece of context: We didn't trust these sources enough to run a story on IGN."

If we believed what we'd heard, you wouldn't have found out about it on another site. We would have run that story ourselves. Just food for thought.

As has already been pointed out many times, they've done official denials in the past only to announce the hardware days later.

Fuck it, get me a seat on the hype train then.

Choo Choo!

The next Nintendo console is just going to be called "Nintendo" and the handheld controller hybrid will be called the "NintendoGo"! Launch titles include smash port, Mario Kart 8, Zelda and NSMB3!!!!!!

Wooooohoooooo!

Except that the 3ds XL comment wasn't a clear denial but beating around the bush.

According to Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo is more focused on the 3DS's successor than anything else.

"I really feel like I'm satisfied with the 3DS hardware as it is. I feel like it's the best for this generation," Miyamoto told me, when I asked about the Nikkei's recent report about a 3DS XL, and whether his company did have plans for something similar. The Nintendo executive noted that his company is always thinking about what's next. "What we're thinking about right now is probably going to be for a future generation of handheld."

Not surprising. What is surprising is that they straight up came out and said it.

The last thing they need is gamers holding off from buying their hardware due to rumors of new SKU's or revisions. Better to comment and end speculation and get people excited for the games they'll announce at their Web show or whatever they do.

Lol. All I'm saying is that a denial means nothing.

For the record, I don't think they will announce the new handheld, because it makes too much sense, and Iwata won't want to break his streak of bad decisions.

Instead, it will be QOL or nothing, either of which will be hugely disappointing.

Lol I know I'm just having fun and poking fun at the believers (denials) :p

...and Nintendo continues its steady walking into irrelevance.

By not screwing consumers and by doubling down on the platforms they have out, they are walking into irrelevance?

Do you not realise the impact that revealing new hardware so fast (and obviously rushed) would be?
