CVG: No Nintendo hardware reveal this E3 company confirms

even if a reveal is scheduled,it's not like they are going to admit it.
If there is indeed a new system (either a redesigned Wii U, a Wii U successor or QOL) waiting to be revealed and someone starts leaking stuff, they'll probably send out a message like they did in 2011 following the many leaks regarding Wii U:

At best, they will again deny the presence of a new system at E3, at the investor presentation next week.

When you had people saying "There goes my Wii U purchase then" in the run-up to MK8 they had to shut this one down.

Massive distraction.

This. Everyone should understand the negative ramifications of that rumor both immediately (people opting not to buy a WiiU, people that did buy a WiiU getting upset) and at the time of e3 when it inevitably doesn't happen. It was pretty much a lose-lose rumor. It's no wonder Nintendo quashed it.

Well duh. We didnt hear any leaks and saw no smoke which was a clear sign there was no fire.

Next year is totally the year for new Nintendo hardware though. I expect we will start hearing rumours before the year is out.

New handheld with the new OS.

Nintend-OS (NOS)

Correct. Very strange, and actually lends some credibility to the rumor, IMO.

C'mon now. So a wild rumor gains way to much distracting momentum, and their choices are to.... Not say anything and have you all go "Oh yeah, new hardware is definitely coming", or to come out and flat out say "Not its not", only to have you all say "Thats unprecedented! New hardware is definitely coming".

Lol.

Again, we're due for a new handheld next year, IMO.

Well, thank goodness that's clarified.

The conspiracy theorist side of me thinks that this was IGN's way of pouring a bucket of cold water over the MK8 hype, now Nintendo are leaving the media out of the loop.

You never heard the original rumour then, it was about some completely unspecified hardware, which the guy talking about it assumes was most likely either a 3ds or Wii U revision.

Did you read IGNs followup statements?

Add to the fact that we have nothing but Smash 3DS, MH4, and maybe Monolith Soft's 3DS game to look forward too.

Nintend-OS handheld confirmed. :P

The Pikacu game, Art Academy and most likely games which they will reveal in about a month.

Yeah, I have been contemplating just going ahead and picking one up here in a few days. As I see it as a new system that is just now starting to come into it's own after only a year and a half. So if they are lying their ass off with this denial and end up revealing a new system anyway, then they will never see another dime from me. Thankfully, I don't think they are that stupid, so I'm not really worried about it. They would do way more harm to themselves than good.

I'm sure someone else has pointed this out, but they're no doubt killing this silly rumour so that Wii U gets a chance to sell when MK8 releases.

If they hadn't, you'd have people waiting out Wii U's biggest push yet, and telling others to do the same.

Like so.

Stranger things have happened, and we live in very strange gaming times.

And then there's maybe Pokemon Z, but the point is, this could be the 3DS's last year or two. I think E3 would be a good time to reveal a new handheld. One that does everything Iwata hinted at in the investors meeting.

Yes, there is obviously a possibility of a new handheld. Discussing that on completely wrong rumours is nothing but pointless.

The ones in the thread, yes. The rumour was unsubstantiated and never about anything specific. Saying it doesn't fit with a rumour about a new handheld implies the rumour actually contained some detail.

The rumour is based on one which IGN wouldn't run and one Nirolak called insane.

If it's out next year, why should they show it at this year's E3? Seriously, I don't see the 3DS successor being released in Q1 2015 at all. Fall 2015 as earliest date? Of course, it's my expectation too! In the case, a E3 2015 reveal would be far better.

The only case where E3 2014 talk about this and a late 2015 release could be together without impacting negatively 3DS sales is if this year they only vaguely talk about the ecosystem plan, their next future vision of games being playable across many devices, at home and away, with an official name for the new line, 2015 date for the beginning and nothing else.

That's exactly what I'm expecting actually. Them touching on their new ecosystem could get lots of people excited for what their new hardware will bring. Hell, they already touched on their future in their investors meeting, they might as well tease some more at E3.

So if you find out a rumour that Sega will launch a new unspecified piece of hardware, and I chip in and say 'i've heard about this too, it's designed by Ken Kutaragi and will launch with Shenmue 3, cost $100 and use an anti-matter storage device', that makes your rumour insane? Even when what you heard about turns out to be a robot dog?

I'll say it again, the ign rumour was about nothing specific other than 'hardware'. The thread was just about fun speculation until videogamer.com decided to link it to obviously fake info.

Nintendo of Belgium called us too to deny the rumor. Nintendo of Netherlands also made a call to some Dutch sites afaik :)

Damn, I was hoping for 3DS Lite and 3DS XL Lite with IPS LCD screen, smaller internal chips, and 20 hours of battery life.

One day.....

Did anyone really believe this would happen?

You pretty much can't count on IGN to do the right thing these days. They had an opportunity to generate clicks and they took it, journalistic integrity be damned.

I think Miyamoto said at E3 one year: "There is no 3DS revision coming."

Literally a week later we got 3DS XL.

Nintendo lies all the time ;)

Nintendo: No, no new hardware is getting announced at E3.

This thread:

Yes. It's unbelievable. In every Nintendo direct thread as well. Same level of delusion. Just amazing.

Show me where they directed clicks. The only clicks I've done is to their mp3 file, what does that get them? They are the ones who've refused to run the story about a rumour on their own podcast by one of their site's founders. I give ign a lot of crap but they've done nothing wrong here.

Not true. As stated before, he deflected. He never actually said that no 3DS revision was coming

Nintendo is not that stupid. Release another new hardware it's a crazy risk. A revision maybe but like ps360 slim at the best.

To be fair, the 3DS to 3DS XL is NOT A REVISION.

A 3DS revision would have features added, features taken away, combined with internal hardware improvements that also improves the external casing and battery life. If they did a 3DS Lite that doubled battery life and added a better accelerometer for more accurate QOL stuff combined with a fitness app. That would be a revision.

The first lines of that article were
For two decades, Nintendo has set a precedent - it iterates repeatedly on its handheld designs, making incremental revisions to extend the life of a system. The Nintendo DS alone received this treatment three times with the DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL.
It's absolutely a revision in the context that they were framing it.
