CVG: No Nintendo hardware reveal this E3 company confirms

Nintendo: No, no new hardware is getting announced at E3.

Well said.

I'm baffled that this thread continues moving unabated. So many hopes and dreams.

The first line of that article was 'For two decades, Nintendo has set a precedent - it iterates repeatedly on its handheld designs, making incremental revisions to extend the life of a system.'.it's absolutely a revision in the context that they were framing it.

.....and you know the most interesting part?

Nintendo hasn't done it yet for the 3DS. Kind of interesting that they have flagging sales, and have yet to put out a revision for the 3DS. When in the past it was what they used to extend life and improve sales.

Really glad they shut this one down early. was definitely needed.

Nintendo wouldn't want a story like this to gain traction, as it will cause demand for the Wii U hardware and software to drop.

Even if they're revealing new hardware/platforms/revisions, it would be bad news for current inventory levels.

Current investment levels of MK8 are high enough, so I find it heavily disingenuous and straight up douchey if these published rumors end up being false.

I updated my post to include the second line, IGN counted the DSi XL as a revision.

I get that the new iterations of the system haven't replaced the old, but I'd argue the XL and 2DS are absolutely revisions of the original 3DS used to extend life and improve sales. We can disagree on that, but whether or not they are replacements for the old, the intent remains the same.

Apparently nobody remembers the time they said "there will be no DS hardware revision" then announced the Lite like 3 days later.

I don't trust what the gaming companies say. Since when do they respond to rumors? So werid. What about that time when that guy said a game wouldn't be at e3 and then had a huge reveal at e3 for the game.

Come on guys, Nintendo's busy hyping the hell out of Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. in ways that are quite frankly unprecedented. Why would they shit on the momentum these two products have as Wii U games by announcing new console hardware that will most definitely be the focus over anything else in the mind of the consumer?

Just ordered a Wii U yesterday, was contemplating cancelling it after the New Console rumour. Didn't believe the rumour, but you never know.

So good news for me, I get to keep my Wii U with Mario Kart pre-order :)

Because people are disappointed in the Wii U and want Nintendo to be relevant again or someone is holding off on a Wii U and doesn't want to buy one if new hardware is announced.

I recall Nintendo saying the same thing to Nikkei before the announcement of the 3DS XL. Oh here it is:

If anything these quotes suggest that this time it is a legit denial...both of those are evasive "nothing has been announced" non-answers, while this one was a plan "we're not revealing anything." I guess they could be being coy but I mean...there's corporation coy and then there's outright lying. I'm not sure I see the purpose of the latter just so people can be surprised.

I can see it now, Nintendo's E3 goes by with no new hardware in sight, and people end up disappointed for no reason because they still believed some silly rumour that Nintendo outright denied was real.

It's quite a malicious act thinking back. I feel sorry for all those who put so much work into the fantastic MK8 campaign only to have their efforts undermined by a rumor. The damage has been done if the FUD in this thread is any indication.

I used to enjoy the days when I thought games worth buying for the merit of their own "magic" and not what websites told me through their surreptitious information brokering. Then I started reading the internet and game forums. Worst mistake of my life.

Yep. Still boggles my mind that mods let the thread so long open.

yeah, for the past 3 weeks nintendo has been on a roll building up hype for their games and getting positive mindshare only for rumors to pop up because of keywords used for when trying to find their E3 site.

Why do people think they will announce QoL at E3? From what I understand its not a gaming device. It would make more sense to have a dedicated event, or show it at CES or something.

Just ordered a Wii U yesterday, was contemplating cancelling it after the New Console rumour. Didn't believe the rumour, but you never know.

Back in Kyoto, Iwata is smiling at your comment.

Man, to have no hardware ready is unbelivable. I was hoping to see something new.

If they don't have any new hardware that means Nintendo really was drinking the coolaid bigtime. They thought Wii U really had a chance of pulling through last christmas.

Seems like QoL was announced super early in order to keep shareholders in check. I don't know how Nintendo will be able to deliver a platform by next year if it is just vaporware right now.

You trust some extremely unlikely rumor, but you don't trust official statements to deny such rumor?

Makes sense.

What?

Of course they have no hardware ready. Their console has barely been out 18 months.

Yes, but we expect QoL to launch next year for some reason?

Either they can develop a new platform in 18 months or they can't. If the can, then they decided not to replace Wii U and really believed that Wii U would pull through when all signs pointed to it being a huge disaster.

If they can't, then QoL is not coming next year or it will be super simple.

E3 2016

Better mark your calendars
I hope not. Too soon. They should announce their successor more or less when the competition announces theirs. Otherwise we'd get almost exactly the same story as now:

- Wii considerably less powerful than PS360
- Wii U considerably less powerful than PS4 and XBO

If Nintendo wants solid and equal third party support again, they'll have to release hardware that is almost, exactly or slightly better than the competition. Otherwise history will repeat itself.

Modern game "journalism" at its best.
This is why we really can't trust any one in the gaming press. They don't know anything and they love making shit up to get money.
It's digusting.

We know what a console is and roughly how long it takes for R&D and preparation until launch. We long how long it takes for the games to be developed. We know nothing about what QoL supposed to be, so your comparison really doesn't make any sense.

You're assuming developing QoL platform is anything like developing a new gaming console.

Not replacing the Wii U has nothing to do with "really believing in ourselves gee whiz" and everything to do with "we need to get what we can out of this because releasing a new console now would only infuriate the Nintendo fans who actually bought a Wii U."

Freaking Nintendo threads, man...

It takes roughly 2 to 3 years to develop and launch a new console. See Xbox One and PS4.

Nintendo's always working on new hardware so the rumor can be repeated year after year.

However, I do think the Wii Remote itself is due for an upgrade. TBH it should've been done with the Wii U's launch, but any time is good.

We need a 3dsi XL. A 3ds XL with good build quality and maybe a little more power to run the OS a little more smoothly.

I've dropped my 3DS XL like 5 or 6 times at this point, even on asphalt, and at least twice it's landed face down (on the screen).

Guess what? Not only does it still work, there isn't a scratch or scuffle anywhere on it. The build quality is incredible, and I honestly don't know how Nintendo does it. Drop an iPhone two feet onto carpet, and the screen shatters into a million pieces.

I wholeheartedly agree. That's the main thing that has annoyed me of all this. Now there are videos all over youtube of people reporting that there's new hardware coming.

Places are also eager to post rumours, but never publicise retractions. They just add it to the article and be done with it

1. QoL probably is not a console.

2. that means a new console post Wii U will be ready just in 2016-2017 assuming Nintendo changed the plans after the disappointing holidays 2013

Why are people still talking about a console? There's zero chance it's a console.

A 3DS revision or the 3DS successor are the only viable options for the rumor to be true.
