CVG: No Nintendo hardware reveal this E3 company confirms

It's quite a malicious act thinking back. I feel sorry for all those who put so much work into the fantastic MK8 campaign only to have their efforts undermined by a rumor. The damage has been done if the FUD in this thread is any indication.

I used to enjoy the days when I thought games worth buying for the merit of their own "magic" and not what websites told me through their surreptitious information brokering. Then I started reading the internet and game forums. Worst mistake of my life.
Jesus Christ you've had it easy.

It's not even a difficult mistake to fix.

You're assuming developing QoL platform is anything like developing a new gaming console.

Not replacing the Wii U has nothing to do with "really believing in ourselves gee whiz" and everything to do with "we need to get what we can out of this because releasing a new console now would only infuriate the Nintendo fans who actually bought a Wii U."

Freaking Nintendo threads, man...

Nintendo would have been better off financially by killing Wii U than losing money trying to force its success in a market not receptive to the concept. So it really is a "really believing in ourselves gee whiz" mentality, especially given Iwata past quotes on the matter.

QoL is a new platform. Platforms take time to build. A new video game platform takes 2-3 years to build. QoL should be similar given the scope.

If Nintendo had been working on a new platform since march 2013 an announcement at E3 of a Wii U replacement would put it at the right time line. Given that we won't hear anything then Nintendo hasn't put much effort in QoL or a new replacement for Wii U. That or they have only recently begun work on a new platform.

No, he's suggesting that Nintendo could have worked on the Wii U successor since March 2013, which makes no sense.

Why are people still talking about a console? There's zero chance it's a console.

A 3DS revision or the 3DS successor are the only viable options for the rumor to be true.

I still think there will be a revision coming this year; however I don't think it would be announced at E3 as I don't think they would want to cut into their sales.

I would be really interested in hearing why you think any of the bolded stuff. Preferably with sources or an explanation of your vast business understanding and education.

I'd say a 3DS revision is possible, though, I don't believe there will be any hardware or revision announcement at E3.

I thought Nintendo's official stance was not commenting on rumor or speculation?

Officially yes, but Nintendo is a very...contradictory company.

There are times where NCL acts contrary to their official PR stance, especially when it comes to speculation regarding imminent announcements.

I'm still surprised so many people here were clamoring for a Wii U successor or even a 3DS successor this soon. I don't think it's time for new gaming hardware.

Are you suggesting Nintendo has only been working on QoL since March?

Probably not far off based on what iwata said a few days ago

“At the start of this year, I finally figured that ‘improving people’s quality of life with fun,’ with emphasis to the ‘fun’ would be perfect for Nintendo. And that’s when I decided to use this as a focus during the financial results meeting in January and wrote the manuscript for the presentation.”

What does one have to do with the other?

What doesn't one have to do with the other? Why would you announce new hardware at E3 if you aren't going to have a conference? They're not going to announce a new console on a ND stream during E3 and risk it getting swallowed up among the noise of E3. Just do it a few weeks before/after, or really, whenever.

I can easily believe them announcing and releasing some kind of revision this year, but E3 is not the usual place to do that, I think the last time they did was the Game Boy Micro. If a Wii U or 3ds revision happens I'd expect a 2 month gap tops between announcement and release.

Possibly, but I can't think of a necessary revision. There's already 3 versions of the 3DS, and I can't imagine what kind of benefit they'd see from a WiiU revision, or at least, any revision that wouldn't be drastic enough to split the user base.

"There's no new DS"
"There's no new DS"
"There's no new DS"
"There's no new DS"
"There's no new DS"
"Here is the DS Lite"
Yep, "no new hardware" will be their official position up until the very second they announce it.

You could ask them 30 seconds before the unveiling and they would still deny it and call it speculation.

So many people new to following the industry in this thread...

Ugh. They neither denied XL nor Lite.

The Direct basically IS a conference, and the new hardware could be on the floor for people to experience.

Yeah it kind of went like this:

"So is there going to be a DS revision?"
"What's a DS revision? What are you talking about?"

Whereas this is explicitly saying "We will not announce any new hardware during E3 in Los Angeles."

The Direct basically IS a conference, and the new hardware could be on the floor for people to experience.

A conference that likely wouldn't be seen by the people in attendance at E3 until after E3, which would defeat the purpose of announcing at E3. If your looking to exclusively reach the public, there are better times to do so.

After the MK8 Direct I have no doubt they came out right away because this rumor could potentially kill sales of WiiU.

Nonsense. The Direct is before the show floor opens, and they will be watching. Stop spewing nonsense and think for a moment.

It's been in development at the very latest since Iwata announced it in his late January investor conference.

March is way too late.

Considering how it's going to be announced this year, and released during the next fiscal year (starting from April 1st, 2015), I suppose it's in development since...quite earlier than this January. Maybe even from...mid-to-Q3 2013?

Again: Point out one credible rumour that Nintendo will show off a new console at or around E3. Just one.

Yep. Or with the WiiU and 3DS leaks, they announced the hardware months before E3.

That sounds like he's talking about his presentation, not necessarily the hardware and concept.

Hmm, yeah, you're probably right. It's unlikely he'd focus on talking to investers about a random idea that hadn't come to fruition yet when it's due next year.

I dont have to. Whether they announce or not is irrelevant. My point was that IF there is an announcement, it would be handheld, not console, since we're due a successor next year, IMO.

I called it in the previous thread and i wasn't really shocked to learn that the rumor was bull.
But i feel like i had to say once more that the campaign run by certain game media to shit on Nintendo's effort to sell some WiiU's, especially now a few weeks before one of the most important releases on the console, that is MK8 is ranging from blatant ignorance and greed for clicks to outright suspicious.
I agree with those that suggested that GAF should reconsider which sites and publications bear any credibility and take action.

Nonsense. The Direct is before the show floor opens, and they will be watching. Stop spewing nonsense and think for a moment.

Follow your own advice. It's not going to happen. It was a silly idea in the first place, and clearly just the product of someone cooking up a way to get some hits on their site.

I follow my own advice. I never said it would happen. All I have said is:

- If it were to happen, it would be a handheld and not a console.
- The Direct is technically not "at E3", so they could get away with this "lie".
- We are due a 3DS successor around next year.

Console means home and handheld. Anyway: Point out one credible rumour that Nintendo will show off a new handheld at or around E3. Just one.

How are we "due" a 3DS successor around next year? Considering the GameBoy lasted 12 years and the DS 7 years...

Ugh. They neither denied XL nor Lite.
We are over a month away from E3, what do you expect them to say at this point? "Uhhh... we are not sure?"

Even if this announcement was true (which I don't think it is anyways) there's no way they would say anything other than "no new hardware" right now, if they said anything at all.

They confirmed WiiU and 3DS months in advance when leaks surfaced.

I'd expect them to trot out the usual "We don't comment on rumours or speculation".

Literally no signs point to this. It's only been three years. We're not "due" a 3DS successor for at least another 2 years, probably more. That's ignoring the fact that there's no guarantee that Nintendo (or anyone, for that matter) will even make another handheld console, given the unfortunate shift in that segment of the industry.
