Cool. I find it hard to believe that they didn't see this problem coming via their testing or that they saw the problem but honestly believed they could fix it before launch.

I like the game a lot on PC, warts and all, but CDPR dropped the ball here.

Bunch of poppycock damage control. It's a life service game.

I called into michael does life stream (dude who broke the news about the console versions) and broke this news to him he's reacting live

lol, at this point Im convinced this is either you or your husband.

I never saw someone simping for streamer/youtuber so hard. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Their commitment to quality means NOTHING. They've ruined their name, any project they produce we'll do a quick google and find these things to quote.

Quality is a funny thing, it's hard to achieve and when you fuck with it and lower your standards it's hard to be trusted to have any idea what the word means.

This COMMITMENT TO QULAITY is just something to appease share holders.

They fucked up and they recognize and apologize about it, meanwhile there are still a bunch of companies like EA that are still fucking up people each year with 70$ patches with microtransactions, and those people are still enjoying it.

If I am not mistaken, Witcher 3 also had a ton of similar bugs right after it got published, but I cannot recall such a huge shitstorm. Well, everybody was focused on the missing grass...

If they were committed to quality then they should had delayed the game.

Q: Didn’t you test old-gen consoles to keep tabs on the experience?

A:
We did. As it turned out, our testing did not show many of the issues you experienced while playing the game. As we got closer to launch, we saw significant improvements each and every day, and we really believed we’d deliver in the final day zero update.

Are they serious with this bullshit? They tested the last gen versions and didn't see what was wrong with it? It's just one lie after another with this company.
That is suck a lie lol
They did not test anything.

I feel sorry for the developers who were only doing their job. Fuck the guys who decided to release it.

I may sound overly aggressive, but I'm not actually upset about the situation at all. I do see straight through bullshit videos like this though. I'm not sour on CDPR and I'll probably buy their next game too, but this situation is what it is and CDPR acted mega shady.

This isn't an honest apology and explaination. It's an attempt to find the correct combination of words for the most effective damage control.

Witcher 3 was by no means same shitshow, it does not have as severe bugs and also no aspect of it was cut that severely as the Ai in the world and stuff, which was promised. Not the mentioned it actually ran normally on by that time current HW. Played PS4 version day 1, some bugs were there, but in no means we those to an extend of Cyberpunk....

just shut down the company and fire everyone marcin. nothing you say or do will make the gaming community happy. look at your face and compare it to my avatar. you aged 20 years since the witcher 3. cdpr is done.

well either that or you can do what bethesda did after the fo76 embarassing launch. deny everything and release a 5 second teaser for the witcher 4 and everyone will forgive you.

It's the appropriate look, really, for asking for patience and understanding. Contrast that with other companies: when vanilla Destiny 2 was on fire, and players left the game in massive numbers, Bungie were still posting memes and trying to be funny. The community reacted with the calm and consideration you'd expect from the internet: death threats, insults, and a hundred threads a minute asking for resignations. They didn't post too many memes after that.
Calm and consideration lying...

The issues with CDPR management run much deeper than just launching poorly performing console versions ahead of time. They delayed the game multiple times just like W3, so their scheduling is totally out of wack in comparison to what it really takes to get these games out the door. Obviously they didn't learn from the previous game since it was such a success despite mostly the same management failures. CP2077 is clearly pretty hastily put together, and a lot was probably left on the cutting room floor just get the game out in a reasonable amount of time. Investors breathing down their neck is probably ultimately what makes things like these happen, and you can live off of your previous sales for only so many years.

I appreciate the apology video. Many would not have the humility for even this, but ultimately they clearly were managing things badly and weren't transparent about the state of the game at all. I'm sure with time CP2077 will fulfill most of their promises, but that'll probably take a couple years with large DLCs to include stuff they cut. I'm not expecting that to be free, though. As it stands the game is a half-fulfilled promise at best. Of course Caveat emptor still applies, people should be aware of what it means to pre-order games like these by now.

It's amazing that they would think releasing this video statement was a good idea. It only goes to show how deluded management is there.

I don't even remember TW3 being real buggy. I know it's been almost 6 years but I played the HELL out of that game when it came out. I had 42 hours played 3 days after release and probably would have played more if I didn't work a couple of those days.

TW3 set the bar really high, especially for CDPR games and people were expecting something even better, and bug free with Cyberpunk 2077. After all the updates and DLCs, maybe it will be.

It's difficult not to react cynical to this video, honestly.

I mean, there are multiple quotes in this video that made me go "...what". For instance, if they seriously thought last-gen versions were fine and dandy up until the last moment, someone seriously fucked up. There's no way the last gen streaming issues came as a surprise.

Also, the whole review explanation was just nonsense. There is no way, NO WAY this is true while at the same time you had CDPR restricting reviewers from showing their own footage. They knew they fucked up and tried to keep it under wraps for as long as possible. Why even address this anyway.

Also, hearing him say they're extremely proud of the PC version is fairly alarming. Of course it runs 100 times better than the console versions, but if "the game runs okay" is their metric than we're not going to get any quality of life improvements for a long time. I can write a list of 100 points where the game is botched in one way or another on PC. Hearing him say they're focussed on getting the game on par for every platform makes me think they're focussing on the Xbox / PS4 versions and not going to fix deeper issues like the AI, traffic density, spawn nonsense, police dynamics anytime soon.

Also, next gen versions not coming until the second half of 2021 is insane, honestly.

Overall, not a good look. Hopefully the two upcoming patches are solid, but this is dangerously close to "early access" territory at this point.

It had stuff like npcs t posing, invisible enemies, bosses who got froze in time, npcs heads detaching from their bodies and other glitches which got fixed after a few patches. Just do a search on YT and you'll find that stuff. There were also a couple of game breaking bugs. I mean most of the things we experienced in CP were also present there. What troubles me the most is the enemy AI, the lack of balance which makes you extremely powerful in a short amount of time, the chaotic inventory... Just to name a few that come to my mind right now. Not to mention the content missing from the street kid prologue (don't know if the others feel the same).

Yet people are cussing those people that poured their souls out making the game and nobody even mentioned the investors and top dogs. They’re the reason for this mess! You think the studio didn’t know that the game needs more time? The studio wants to release the game while they knew they aren’t ready? Absolutely fucking not! Nobody works for YEARS just to give something broken to the world. Pointing fingers is easy, blaming the developers is also easy. But if people are smart enough they would’ve known that this whole situation wasn’t created by the studio alone. It’s always easy being an ignorant and just blame the first thing you see in front of you.

The bugs are only a tiny part of the issues with this game so I'll pray super hard the free DLC manage to give it the good gameplay and interesting characters that it lacked.

Mega shady like releasing a knowingly broken product that needed refunding in the first place after covering up the footage with selective review copies, restricted embargo footage and flat out saying the console versions were running "surprisingly well". Yeah, shady like that, but that's just the tip of the iceberg before I go into more about Cyberpunk and CDPR.

The thing is, investors are a faceless and nameless amalgamation of people behind the scenes. They control the development schedule and have final say about when the product will launch, but we as consumers will never see or interact with them. Therefore, the studio with employees that speak to us through social media platforms on a near daily basis become the easy and unfortunate targets.

Already finished the game.
I guess that I'm going to wait until the proper PS5 version is released to play the DLCs.
Seems like fall/end of the year so it will be a long wait but I didn't expect differently.

"Deeply sorry". Sure, I bet they were in tears counting that sweet 8 mil pre-order cash pile.
There are much easier ways to make money than by making huge AAA games. And CDP had some 200 million USD in the bank (and zero debt) before Cyberpunk even launched. Money is important, but isn't the primary driver or motivation here. In hindsight if they could have gone back in time and delay one more time, I am pretty sure they would have.

Is (or are) crowbcat still making videos these days?
So, I JUST discovered a thread where people were asking the same question. At the top of his latest/last video there's a comment where he says he's working on a Cyberpunk video and isn't sure when it would be coming out. Just some time in 2021.

These pieces of shits lost all their credibility now. I can't believe they are still saying that they had tested the last gen consoles AND found that they were playing well. Sounds to me like CDPR are trying to lay the foundation of a defense against the on-going lawsuits. If CDPR keeps lying like that, how are they going to expect people to take them seriously anymore???

We want for them not to tease a game for nearly a decade, delay game 3+ times in the name of quality, deliberately hide the condition of the console version weeks leading up to release, and then deliver a broken mess. Offering a refund is not a remedy, it's something they SHOULD do for those who want it.

Pretty generic apology with more PR bullshit. Yeah I'm sure you totally didn't see the issues while testing the game and not sending out console review copies had nothing to do with wanting good scores at launch.

With that said, it just makes you wonder how much better the game would have been if they were able to focus on PC and next gen consoles for the last year or two instead of having to constantly fight with last gen hardware restrictions.

Not to give these guys a pass, but you have guys to remember something:

A video game is not like many other pieces of software. It's not like a sophisticated desktop application written in C++ or Java, or a highly interactive web application written in the latest React.js + an Express.js or Spring backend.

You can't just write a bunch of unit tests, integration tests, and perhaps visual regression tests (Cypress.io, Selenium, Test Complete whatever) and 'call it a day'. It requires, in the truest sense, 'human man hours'. People playing the (limited) segments of the game and giving feedback. you can only hire so many people to play the game, and naturally you're probably going to dip into the employee pool to help I would guess. So artists, devs, project managers, whatever are playing alpha builds and what not and giving feedback.

But, even then, your capacity for bugfixing is probably stretched.

As a web application/CI-CD/Automation/Cloud dev, I honestly cannot imagine the sheer hell that is 'testing' for a video game. In particular open world video games. Obviously it *is* doable, but my question to everyone here is: what is a massive open world game that released in the past 15 years that wasn't plagued with all kinds of weird issues and bugs? I struggle to think of one.

Cyberpunk was just among the most egregious. I do think they didn't test very much on the last gen consoles, but my reasons for thinking that are the above. It's not like one tester can 'test the same segment of gameplay' simultaneously across PC, Xbox One, XSX, PS4 and PS5. Those are separate run throughs.

Playing Devil's Advocate.

Again, a refund is not a remedy. Should I feel happy after I order a steak at an expensive restaurant, wait an hour for the food to be served, and then bite into a raw piece of meat? No, I'm going to be pissed off and a refund is still not going to make-up for the disappointment and lost time. I'm not saying they owe me anything more, but first impressions are everything and they will never get that back with a game that had all the components to have rivaled or even surpassed Witcher 3 as all-time great RPG. I'll always have a sour taste in my mouth when playing the game, even when it's fixed a year later.

I can certainly appreciate them not just going dark and letting their customers know whats happening but the damage has been done and they've permanently damaged their brand for alot of people.
