Cyberpunk 2077 delayed because of current gen consoles

According to a Polish insider Borys Niespielak, the main reason for Cyberpunk 2077 delay lies in current-gen consoles, which are reportedly not powerful enough to run the game properly.
Last week, CD Projekt Red officially delayed their highly-anticipated RPG Cyberpunk 2077 to September 2020. The studio explained that the game is finished and playable but they still need more time to squash bugs and fix many glitches that are present in the current build.

This is probably one of the reasons why CD Projekt Red decided to delay the game but according to Polish insider Borys Niespielak, current generation consoles are actually the main problem for the developers.

Speaking in a podcast, which you can watch below, Niespielak says that the original Xbox One console is not powerful enough to run the game properly and apparently, Cyberpunk 2077 performance on the console is "extremely unsatisfactory".

Borys' sources confirmed that if "this problem with Xbox has not been solved by January 2020, the release date must be postponed."

As a PC gamer waiting for Cyberpunk:

Yeah I'm sure they worked on this game for 7 years, built it around some consoles that they didn't iterate software on and playtest for thousands of hours and then right at the end they test it and come to find out it doesn't run right...

Even Witcher 3 in performance mode on xbox one x drops down to 36fps in areas. I have to imagine that Cyberpunk is substantially more taxing. Making it a drag on base xbox one or ps4.

That game released only 18 months into the generation on unfamiliar consoles, they also patched it about a dozen times and it now runs excellently which shows they made strides with not only their engine but familiarity with coding on the consoles. Not to mention there's also the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X versions which as basically flawless.

The Witcher 3 was a product of a transitional hardware period, Cyberpunk is a product of an entire generation of familiarity with this particular hardware. It's a shaky ass rumor.

Amazing quote and imho the most important thing to bring up regarding this topic. If indeed they are unable to get the game running correctly, it might start to question if the issues with Witcher 3 was based on transitional hardware period or something else going on at the team.

I think we can respect and forgive issues during the start of a generation, we start to deeply question the team 2 or 3 games in and the issues still exist. It goes from "oh its the start of the gen" to " ok...what on earth is happening at that studio"

So I think it has issues, but I believe the hardware isn't one of them. They spent damn near 7 years working on the hardware, to not know if the game can run questions the developer more then the hardware.

All hardware has limitations, but only a real competent developer knows those limitations and creates around that, not above it for several years. We'd have to question what god mode is Naughty Dog or Guerrilla Games or Rockstar running on? It would beg to question how on earth EVERYONE ELSE is able to actually release games this generation. Its ok to want to make a game that is on the next level, but one must first actually understand what can and can't even be done on hardware. I don't fault hardware in that respect, I fault the team. They knew that for 7 years though. So I doubt the rumor is true, but my god if it is.....it tells me something is going on at that team that isn't normal.

The fact they are releasing this 2 months before next gen and have no plans to release it on next gen at the moment is fucking stupid logic.

Because its very fake news. Obviously they can't say they are working on a souped up next-gen build because it would make current gen console owners reconsider as they'd have to double dip. So they are flat out lying. Of course they are going to port it to ps5. Xbox next will have to make do with the xbox one version, as they won't allow xbox next exclusive incompatibility (big mistake imo). Will probably just provide an xbox next enhanced patch for the xbox one version.
