I really like going no shield. So many bosses are really trivial otherwise. It also forces you to really learn movesets and perfect your timing. But the game was intended to be used with shields thoss that use them shoukd have zero shame.
 
So what's the deal with
Alva/Seeker of the Spurned
invading in The Ringed City?
We already dealt with him near Irithyll dungeon where his stuff drops next to Karla, why is he also here?


Also can't believe we missed a load of stuff near Amnesiac Lapp just by dropping on the wrong side of the tower - Lothric War Banner and Projected Heal both seem like they'd be excellent in Undead Match/co-op boss fights.

As far as I'm aware there isn't, mainly because you can still drop to Earthen Peak Ruins bonfire and go back. It's not like the Pit of Hollows where you would literally be stuck without a Homeward Bone.

Went and gave the
little girl the blood.

I've still got that
giant dragon
to beat but I was wondering where I go after
giving the girl the blood
? It doesn't look like I can reach that building
behind Gael or the castle in the distance.

DLC is finished after that :). Yep, no cutscene or anything to bring some closure to it...

Same here but it seems that's the end of the dlc,although some players still think there's more after that event.
 
Oh. Huh. Well that's kind of disappointing.

I don't know what I was expecting I guess for the ending? I mean, I imagine this is supposed to be the last DS content for a while.

Overall the beginning of the DLC was stronger than Ashes but Ashes had a kick ass last boss.

As a whole I guess the DLC was ok? Just kind of petered out though.

In TRC, it was a cool lead up to
finding Filly but that sucks if that desert area was only used for those two guys.

My no shield run was pretty fun in Dark Souls 1. I think I'll try that in 3 for a next playthrough, and maybe even recreate that character, by using a claymore and then zweihander.

finding Alva's armour in Irithyll dungeon meant Karla was Zullie, or at least a descendant

Can I just say I really fucking hate fighting the Spear-wielding Ringed Knights?

They're like everything annoying about Dark Souls 3 enemies put together. I find myself backstab fishing them because they're so obnoxious to fight fairly.

A lot of weapons have shield-countering weapon arts. I was using the follower sabre and it was glorious.

Any enemy you can't just bum-rush and spam to death is automatically better than average in Souls games.
 
Really liking the DLC so far. As DS4Windows stopped working for me, I've also had to get used to M+KB controls while progressing through it, which has actually been pretty fun, and I finally found a setup I feel mostly comfortable with. That said, now I find Lothric knights ridiculously harder than when I used a controller.

Just beat the first boss and I'm already liking it more than Ashes of Ariandel.

They're not that bad, but I just hate how they turtle so much. Especially when you pull them from a group with your bow and they... just... slowly... make... their...way... to... you.... GAHHH RUSH TO ME ALREADY
 
Having done a bunch of runs with different characters... I've realized that I just really don't look forward to reaching this DLC each time.

I think a huge part of it is knowing I'll have to take on
Midir
at the end. It's led to me starting characters and going "This isn't viable against the secret boss, so I probably shouldn't bother."

I think the whole series has suffered from this a bit, partially because of From's nerf-happy nature with patches. There are just too many weak/pointless weapons and spells.

Quantitatively I don't know if this game is worse than the others in regards to this, but I feel the same, and not just for the DLC.

I should make a character dedicated to only using absolute garbage that no one uses. Right hand - Elenora and Saint's Bident. Left hand Darkdrift and Yorshka's Spear

The shield is not what makes them fucking annoying. The spear is.

I think all of the Souls games have had a ton of garbage equipment (or good gear that got nerfed), but it wasn't really a huge issue for me until DS3.

Nioh made me realize that the soft and hard caps on stats in Souls are too low, to the point where most stats should never go above 40. In Nioh, you get consistent gains whether you're raising a skill to 10 or to 90. If Souls adopted this system, then fewer weapons/spells would be dogshit simply because you could always make up for their inherent weakness with proper stat allocation.

There's just zero reason to use anything but the high and top tier equipment in PvP and, as of Ringed City, using sub-optimal builds in PvE is getting rough too.
 
Dark Souls 3 is the first game in the series where I consistently needed to roll versus using my shield versus bosses...absorbing hits is not viable as you lose too much of your stamina- Abyss Watchers, Soul of Cinder, Sister Friede etc all require precision and consistent rolling which is something I used but not as a necessity in any pf the previous Souls games
 
I'm watching Distortion2 (Twitch streamer) do a Pyro run on regular NG. Right now he is at Aldrich, and using the "Seething Chaos" pyro, he took down half of Aldrich's health in TWO hits. Granted it is the TRC dlc spell, but god damn that damage was bananas.

I've never done any pyro in DS3 but now I'm considering starting up a fresh character.
 
I still wish we could re-fight bosses without having to go in NG+

Both
Gael and Midir
are bosses I wanna fight again but then id have to go in NG+ and slogthru all the game again or just make a new char for them...

This is one of the things DS2 did right

a children of the dark like the girls you find on DS2 DLC
, Alva probably befriends Karla because she looks like a black witch. And the darkness inside her probably made Alva
going insane and die

I literally did this yesterday but got a bit bored with the lack of spell variety. After a certain, not too far point into the game, it was 100% chaos orb / vestiges and black orb.

The funnest part of the run was using the Dark Hand as my only weapon. Never knew how strong that thing is.

Ive gotten so good at rolling now even with the insane speed of the enemies in BB and DKS3. Ive never played it but have watched many plaththroughs of DKS1. I know when I play it myself that the game will be a cakewalk.


DLC beaten, btw. Awesome. Really enjoyed it. Man Midir was so freaking awesome. Felt really accomplished beating him.

it's a cool theme but the walking character is kinda eh

the dynamic theme ringed city tower theme that you get (literally the pic of the 2nd link you sent. I actually dont know how I unlocked it, I assume you get it with the season pass?) looks better to me, its the one I use now

Kinda of wrong since Karla is not using a
Black Witch set and more like a robust , low quality ropes since she use dark, not magic or miracles and Alva was on his jorney of seeking a cure of for the princess he frienzoned Zullie hard.

finally dead after an embarrassing amount of attempts. Hardest souls boss I've every fought, honestly. NG+++ at a low SL probably didn't help.

My Faith character is almost DLC ready. At 36 faith she's just starting to feel viable in Irithyll thanks to Unfaltering Prayer + Lightning Stake. Lightning Blade's alright too. Still going to hang around Pontiff until I get Great Lightning Spear though.

What's the best weapons for PvE? I've been rolling with +9 Dark Sword, but it's not cutting the butter anymore.

Switched to Exiled GS +9, and it's a lot better. But I eat a lot more hits with it too as I can't hunker down in my ultra greatshields (though those Ringed Knights eat a ridiculous amount of stamina with their fire combos).
 
Midir's
so close to being an excellent boss fight with just too many bullshit problems.

The tail swipe does twice as much damage as it should.

The boss repositions itself too much and too far.

The hitbox on one of his melee attacks is just this bizarre steamroller thing that may as well be a grab attack for how they're treating it.

His stagger value (at least on NG+7) is so high it might as well not exist.

Like, aside from the second problem, it's all easy to fix. I don't know what you do about that, other than just make him not hop around like a grasshopper on meth.

I've had the best luck with normal greatswords. Flamberge has a great moveset and does exceptionally good damage and is fairly fast. Farming it can be a bit of a chore though if you don't get a lucky drop normally.

You should also consider the length of the weapon. The longer the weapon, the further away you can hit with it so if you want to use UGS then make sure you use them at slightly further distance than regular swords or greatswords. Exile GS is pretty short so you are probably getting hit more as you have to be close and it takes more time to swing.

There's a lot of viable weapons as long as you like the moveset and learn their timing well and of course some will do more damage against specific enemies. I switch between Refined Flamberge and Refined Lothric Knight GS on my quality characters.

I like that the DLC finally made getting Titanite Chunks trivial so it's a lot easier to +9 any weapons you want to try out to make a decision if they work for you.
 
Got through the rest of the DLC today, and now I just have the final boss of it left to beat. Won't have time for a week for more attempts though. The optional boss took me about 2 hours to finally beat. I really liked it, but almost expected it to be harder.

I also
beat the penultimate boss twice - the first time with a real summon and the next time offline. Just to wring out every last drop of content.

I can't believe I just have one Souls boss left to beat. I've solo'd every other boss among the five games. It's been quite a journey playing this series over the last year and a half. It's definitely one of my very favorite game franchises.

Probably great hammers or UGS or other things that can stagger enemies and kill them quickly.

You will eat more hits though, as the AI will detect you are about to kill it and throw out a trade 1 frame before it dies :^)
 
My Gundyr Halberd is barely doing any damage to the Prince. Any other good weapons?
I have around 37 strength and between 20-24 dexterity.
