Dark Souls III: The Ringed City |OT| One Last Journey

Sunlight Straight Sword is now C/C/B and can hit 460 AR with 26/40/50. You can also apply Lightning Blade for a whopping 655. And then use the WA buff.

New Faith meta.

Also, Prisoner Chain damage increase is now only 3% lol

Do you think
Slave Knight Hood (with the long white beard), Undead Legion Armor, Black Knight Leggins and Black Knight Leggings (with Gael's Greatsword)
would work well as a
Gael
in-game cosplay? I don't have the
Slave Knight Hood
but I'm wondering if it restrains the beard from appearing.

Meanwhile the Raw Drakeblood Sword got the nerf bat. Now it's garbage again. Switching from that to a generic Straight Sword is annoying.

Awesome! My Solaire reincarnated Cosplay will be complete!

I've been just standing outside boss doors helping people until the summons dry up and moving on to the next boss. It's been a great way to play.

A few of the straight swords are already in the 450 AR range at 40/40 alone. It doesn't seem that OP.

Holy shit I cannot believe it after almost over 250 hours of gameplay and two full playthroughs I finally found the prisoners Chiefs ashes not sure how i missed it 😂

For some reason I really dug those hordes of enemies in the Dreg Heap that would ooze out of the ground. They seemed liked a minor nuisance at first but eventually they would be all over me in numbers. They had a sort of liquid quality to them and the way they just kept reforming was unique among the game enemies. Glad I could roll through them with ease though.

when using the White Branch how come I cannot use sprint while transformed?...every time I hit the sprint key I switch back to my human form...is this normal or because I rebinded a bunch of keyboard commands?

It's normal. You can't run while transformed.

I just want to say that those Angel enemies are the most obnoxious I've ever encountered in a Souls game. They might even be worse than lady-Brains from Bloodborne.

Overall I find the new area to be very challenging, mostly due to these bastards... I can't explore at all because they keep firing on me, and I can't kill them. I did manage to find the "summoner" for one of them and kill it, which I guess gets rid of them permanently (similar to the toxic blowpipe dudes in DS1) so that's something. But damn, I've died so much in just the opening area of this DLC. I guess I can't complain that it's not challenging enough.

It's normal, imagine if want to run away or defend from an invader after being spotted but you still look like a big jar,it would be kinda annoying.

Can you stack the Sunlight Straight Sword's Weapon Art, Lightning Blade and Tears of Denial?

Also, the Iron Dragonslayer Armour looks siiiiick, and
Patches remains an arsehole, although this time he puts you in surprisingly little danger - surely with this being the last thing with Dark Souls ever, they'd have gone over the edge and actually made Patches kill you?

What's all this about white branches, I just used the
Chameleon
sorcery.
You might not have the spell. On my first run through the DLC I didn't have it and I'd already killed Orbeck or whoever sells it to you (probably to get the Morion Blade, it was an old character so I forget why)

Plus you pick up white branches in the swamp anyway, which is a hint to use it. Seems a shame you can't get more of them.

I wanted to give the new covenant a try, but after having it equipped for 30 minutes I wasn't summoned once. The symbol was flashing white, but nothing happened.

Is this typical?

Nah, that's the point. That arc is about the struggle between
his inherently deceitful nature and the friendship he forged with you as Lapp. In the end, he's too crude to thank you for aiding him, but he also can't bring himself to harm you.

You'll note that it's the first time
he ever kicks you towards the proper path. He's showing you the way forward, in his own crooked fashion.
It's surprisingly lovely character development and one of the only pieces of the DLC that feels like a satisfying conclusion to a plot thread.

God, I'm still pissed over the Raw Drakeblood Greatsword being nerfed. It's ridiculous how From took a weapon that was basically useless, made it actually useful, and then nerfed it back to uselessness again.

From is terrible at this. It seems they get worse at balancing with every game.

Demon's Souls had almost no patch, and it still remains the most balanced!

Like OK, fix the obviously broken shit, but leave the rest alone! Or buff them somewhat but stop nerfing everything into uselessness.

Just started Ashes of Ariandel. I saved that to combine with Ringed City. Feels good to have a nice meaty chunk. I like it so far.

Just beat Demon Prince again, pulled off 3 visceral attacks. 2nd favourite boss in the whole game, top ten in the series. It's a mountain of resistances but you can get away with such aggressive play.

Online in Souls was at its best when From was hands-off and laissez-faire. Demon's and Dark Souls 1 are still considered the best online within the community because there were very few regulations.

Then, with Dark Souls 2, they suddenly because hyper-aware of every little whiny thread on every message board ever. Invaders are too strong? Make invasions in NG virtually nonexistent. This weapon is the flavor of the month? Nerfed to oblivion. This boss is killing a lot of co-op noobs? Slow it down and weaken its attacks.

This way of thinking has dominated their multiplayer design since, and the result is garbage online in Bloodborne and inferior PvP in Dark Souls 3 (that, in turn, makes PvE weaker by nerfing viable items offline too).

The irony, as always, is that if they'd just left FUGS, Bleed, Dark Sword, Gargoyle FS, Ringed Knight PUGS, Drakeblood, Sunlight SS (next to be nerfed), and all of the other "meta" weapons alone they'd all just balance each other out. It's precisely because there's only ever one or two top-tier builds due to constant nerfing that online gets so redundant.

This is exactly right! That is why Demon's Souls was so "balanced" in PvE and PvP. Sure, Curse Weapon + sharp Estoc is so damn good. But so are purple dual kats, a purple Dragon Bone Smasher, a blessed great axe, Northern Regalia, or a Light Weapon Blueblood Sword. Blessed gaxe wasn't as hard-hitting as the cursed-buffed crushing one, but it had HP regen (especially with an Adjudicator shield on your back) that made defensive play effective. Sure, Northern Regalia's backstabs will OHKO everyone, but that's why everyone's using Second Chance, and its regular moveset is mediocre. Sure, a lit BBS does ridiculous damage, but once the buff expires, it's trash. Sure, dual kats push-lock combo is very effective, but it's completely countered by a shield (and shield + estoc is even more lol). Sure, estoc + shield is absurdly good, but you can always dead-angle with a Dragon Bone Smasher's rolling r1.

tl;dr -- So in the end, nothing straight-out dominated the meta because pretty much every OP thing could be countered. I wish From understood that and left most things alone.

....Yeah I did spend way too much time in Demon's Souls PvP. xD

You know what, you're right - it's better this way. That's not the last we see of
Patches right? Kinda want to see what he'd sell in The Ringed City
!

Using a Dragonslayer Greatbow to
shoot Midir off the bridge feels lame, but I guess there isn't really a satisfying way of dealing with a dragon outside of arranging the area around it a la Ancient Wyvern.

Also, any particular reason why it's
Eygon who invades
here?

Yeah they seem to be taking everything in the wrong direction. When the weaker weapons should be stronger, instead they weaken the stronger weapons. Weapons with huge STR investment like FUGS and Ledo Hammer do less damage than some that are several times lighter, faster and take less stats and stamina to swing.

IMO how the weapons were originally was fine, only the Dark Sword was maybe excessively powerful for what it is. Considering the base game had so few weapons that did dark damage they could've actually made that do some dark damage and be done with it.

The new poise system would have fixed most of the issues with weapon balance or they could've just made weapons do less damage in PvP only.

Just tried the Sunlight SS and yep, it's legit when buffed.

I think they'll nerf it. At this point From should give more respec options. There has been so much changes and nerfs in these months.

Seriously, the Dragonslayer Spear is below 500 AR now...

Some weapons need tweaks, Dark Sword or Carthus Curved Sword or the recent Heavy Exiled GS buff, but they're taking it too far. The problem comes more from moveset and speed than ARs after all.

EDIT: 526 AR 2handed with a Corvian Scythe with base DEX / STR and 40 INT FTH. Not bad...

I finally beat
Slave Knight Gael
. That was hard. I have no idea why people consider him easier than Midir or Friede.

Crucifix of the Mad King is a great weapon. The DLC and the patches that followed really gave Faith builds some love.

His attacks are pretty easy to avoid and punish, and he doesn't deal all that much damage. The third phase is pretty chaotic until you figure out what's going on but even then he has a couple of combos that leave him wiiiide open afterwards.

Just finished up Ashes of Ariandel. Good DLC. I'm not seeing the too short complaints. It was about the same length as any of the Crown DLCs. Played on NG+ and
Sister Friede
was a bitch. That
third phase is tough when she can straight up lob 80% of you HP in a single hit.
Defeated the
Champion and his little puppy
on the first go though.

Pretty sure I died more in this DLC than I did the entirety of Nioh. lol

Onto the Ringed City!

What IS going on, other than me panic healing a lot?! XD
