Are you ready for another Resident Evil film? If you saw Resident Evil: Retribution - the fifth chapter in the series, which grossed $221 million worldwide - you know they've left the door open to at least one more chapter in the series.

When we spoke to director Paul W.S. Anderson prior to the start of Resident Evil: Afterlife (part four) he told us he had mapped out a story for a new trilogy which would carry the franchise into a sixth film, so you know he's ready. While we don't have a title for that sixth film, there is a confirmed release date...

ShockTillYouDrop.com has learned Sony/Screen Gems has set a debut date for September 12, 2014 which means Anderson and star Milla Jovovich will likely begin shooting the new film this fall.

Story-wise, no details have been released, but when we last saw Jovovich's Alice, she was at the White House and facing a rather large threat with Wesker by her side.

We'll have more details as they come in!

These are dumb, entertaining fun. Moreso dumb than entertaining, it seems. But as long as Anderson keeps churning these things out, it keeps him from ruining other titles that he's talked about in the past.

Yeah, I believe the wording there suggests this is the end of that new trilogy, comprisig Afterlife, the 5th film and now this 6th one.

This is a great way to look at it, I guess.

I wonder what game they will focus on this time. It's either Africa and RE5 or RE6.

Man, I enjoy these movies.

Sure they're terrible, but you know what, who fucking cares? They're pure popcorn flick material and that's all I ever expect/want from a movie that is based on a video game.

The popularity of these movies ruined the video game franchise. You can't tell me that laser trap scene in RE4 wasn't ripped straight out of the first film. Ever since then the series has done its best to emulate the Paul Anderson philosophy: more action, less horror, more dumb.

They don't go far enough, I feel like I could get a similar and superior experience watching someone play Resi 4

Event Horizon is a good movie. "Where we're going, you won't need eyes." Sam Neil was goddamn creepy in that. I also have a soft spot for Soldier. But the erst of his movies are fucking awful. He somehow managed to make Alien vs. Predator boring. How do you do that?

The original's existence is totally justified for having created quite possibly the funniest commentary ever

I seriously hope it ends with this one. Even taking the plot seriously for just one moment, the fifth movie was obviously just filler and a redux of the first in a lot of ways.

didnt know he did the first mortal kombat. i thought that was actually pretty good.

Mortal Kombat and PG-13 do not go together. Scorpion and Sub-Zero do not team up and work for Shang Tsung. Reptile's CG looked like something out of a PSOne FMV. People holding it up as some standard of video game adaptations make me wonder if they've ever truly watched it. Awful, awful movie that plays more like some half-assed version of Enter the Dragon without any of its style.

So much this. It disgusts me.

Event Horizon at 23%?? Lololol I always knew RT was a load of shit.

I love this series but the last movie was horrifically bad. Normally there's a sense of joy de vivre in the movies, a sense that everyone involved may know they are doing a OTT b-movie but you can tell they enjoy it and are having fun. The last one felt like the life had been sucked out of it and everyone was simply there to collect their cheque.

I can already hear Rich Evans laughing.

Paul W.S. Anderson should have quit after Mortal Kombat. That was his pinnacle.

It was made in 1995, of course the CG was bad. The movie was fine for it's time. What's wrong with Sub Zero and Scorpion teaming up? Was there even any lore for MK back then?

Plus, did they even actually "team up" or were they just working for the same guy? I can't remember. Either way, bfd.

Critical acclaim doesn't determine if I enjoy a movie.

Soldier wasn't horrible, and 2/3 of Event Horizon are good. It falls apart towards the end, though.

Regarding RE, I want to say the series deserves a more respectable treatment, but the last two games have had a lot in common with the movies series, for better or worse (hint:worse).

Alice was still pulling of some nutso shit after losing her powers in the last one.

These movies are dumb fun, and now that the games are shit it's not so painful they aren't faithful to the source material.

Mortal Kombat was awesome

The script for Soldier was apparently hot shit at the time, but with a ton of meddling and delays, it just didn't turn out well.

EDIT - looking it up, it was a 15 year old script, written by the co-writer of Blade Runner.

I guess I can add that to the list of reasons I never liked RE4 :)

(I never actually finished the game because I was so disappointed)

Yup. It was supposed to take place in the same universe as Blade Runner. Supposedly there's some minor references in the final product. It's still a decent movie with some nice over-acting by Russel, Busey and Jason Isaacs.
