Ok, folks, since the recent announcement that the legendary DAVID WISE returned to compose the Soundtrack for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, I thought it would be a good idea to make an official David Wise appreciation thread (while listening to the Donkey Kong Country OST as well as the Battletoads vs Double Dragon OST ^^)

Who is David Wise? (for the people who don’t know)

David Wise (often also credited as Dave Wise or D. Wise) is a British video game music composer. He was one of the in-house composers at Rare, and his music appears in many Rare-developed titles. He started his career there in 1985 and was the company's sole musician up until 1994. He is known for his atmospheric style of music, mixing natural environmental sounds with prominent melodic and percussive accompaniment.
His most famous work is that of the soundtracks for the Donkey Kong Country series of games. In addition to the percussive and ambient 'jungle' influences that serve as a thematic undercurrent for much of the series, the games feature a wide variety of different musical styles that are reflective of the various areas and environments they appear in.

DKC and Battletoads aren’t of course the only Video Game Soundtracks he ever made; in fact he did many more, and I’m sure you will remember a lot of games that are listed here: Games David Wise composed the music for

So now that he’s returned to Donkey Kong Country:TF, I’d like to know your personal TOP 5 tracks (no particular order) from the SNES Version of Donkey Kong Country 1 – 3 and your TOP 3 (same) of all non-DKC related video game tracks composed by David Wise.

My TOP 5 SNES Donkey Kong Country Tracks:

1. Donkey Kong Country 2 OST ~ K. Rool Returns

2. Donkey Kong Country 1 OST ~ Main Theme

3. Donkey Kong Country 1 OST ~ Cranky's Theme

4. Donkey Kong Country 1 OST ~ Aquatic Ambiance

5. Donkey Kong Country 2 OST ~ Snakey Chantey

(damn, that was hard to choose, I could easily add 10 more, but let’s keep it small)

My TOP 3 non-DKC tracks from D.Wise

1. Battletoads & Double Dragon - The Ultimate Team (SNES) - Title Screen

2. Battletoads & Double Dragon - The Ultimate Team (SNES) - Continue Theme

3. Battletoads in Battlemaniacs (SNES) - Dark Tower

(equally hard to choose)

David Wise ist definitely one of my favourite - if not most favourite - video game composer EVER, and I’m so happy that he’s back for the new Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze – GET HYPE!!! :D

EDIT: It's also perfectly fine if you don't feel like posting music, but ONLY want to apprecitate David Wise, HAHA! ^^

EDIT 2: If you post music, it would be nice if you could LINK to your favorite tracks or recommendations, so others can check them out easier.

I've long thought that Snakey Chantey would make for a great alarm tone. So I did it, and it's great.

Oh, and you can't have a Wise thread without the obligatory Stickerbrush Symphony and Forest Interlude. Even after all this time DKC2's soundtrack is still without doubt my favourite.

Other than the Super Mario Bros. theme song, no other videogame music comes to mind. I can never remember any music people post.

Props for having Snakey Chantey in your top 5, that's one of my favorites as well. Hot Head Bop is also excellent.

Was already excited for DKCTR when it was announced (well aware I'm in the minority), but David Wise being brought back just sweetened the deal a whole lot.

No Kenji Yamamoto mention? Super Metroid, Metroid Prime Trilogy? He's on board too. :/

Still pretty hype that David's doing the OST.

Oh shit, I amost forgot about that!!! ^^' You're absolutely right.

It's so amazing what D.Wise was able to musically achieve on 16 bit hardware.

I can't believe OP missed the most iconic David Wise game songs

Stickerbrush Symphony and Forest Interlude.

Nah, I know about them. Everyone mentions them first, which is fine, and they are among my favorites as well, but I wanted to highlight some of the lesser known (but still very excellent) tracks instead.

Wait, what? WHAT?! David Wise is returning for Tropical Freeze?! :DDDD Sorry for being so fucking late to this, but where/when was this announced?

Man, DKC2's OST is so god-tier. Hot Head Hop, Mining Melancholy and Stickerbrush Symphony are my favorites.

In DKC1, the Factory theme is my favorite from that game. It's like the most badass music theme in any platformer ever.

DKC2 is literally the best game soundtrack ever made. In fact it's far ahead of most electronic music being produced today.

Bramble Blast and Mining Melancholy are best.

Aquatic Ambiance is so good. Its like I have a specific feeling in my head that happens only when I listen to it.

I really need to explore his non-DKC work more though.

Oh man, the gameplay of DKCR with David Wise music finally?

We all talk about Nobuo Uematsu and some others as the legends, and this is certainly true...

But I never, ever understood why David Wise isn't as celebrated today.

His talent is just ridiculous.
