It seems like Warner Bros. Discovery is aware that DC Entertainment is not utilized enough in the gaming space

Over the last decade, the only AAA DC games that have been released are the Batman: Arkham games, two Injustice games, some LEGO titles, and the Telltale Batman series.
Largely, these all revolve around Batman for the most part and it highlights a growing issue with DC's representation in one of the biggest mediums in entertainment.
This year, DC will release Gotham Knights, a game featuring the Batfamily, and next year, it will release Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. It was also recently revealed that a Wonder Woman game is in the works, but it's still likely years away from release.

But the company believes it needs to do more to grow the comic book brand.

Although DC has a routine presence on the big screen, the report notes that the company is looking into bolstering DC's gaming efforts. As of right now, there's no indicator as to what that could look like, but it shows that the company is aware it can certainly do better.
Many have been asking for games based on Superman, The Flash, the Justice League, and many other key heroes, but nothing has come of it.

Warner Bros. Discovery reportedly believes that Superman needs to be revitalized after a mixed reception to the character's recent on-screen appearances and then being abandoned.

Batman was already the best fit for a video game from DC. The other good stuff from DC doesn't seem to be a good fit for an AAA game.

Superman would have the draw but his powers don't seem to suit the sort of games we have these days. If the character is able to fly or is too fast it's already a good indication that it would work in a video game.

Obscure character from DC could work great on games but they would have no draw to justify a AAA budget.

On Marvel side, Daredevil, Punisher, Wolverine, Captain America, Hulk, Black Panther, Deadpool, X-Men all seem to have the right balance between popularity and gameplay familiarity/possibilities.

Damn, the Flash is so boring.
How would a Flash game be like?
Sonic with a ‘weird spandex suit guy’ skin?
Puzzle game that is timed based (as in everything moving extremely slow compared to you but you have a very limited amount of real time to solve a complex problem, sort of like Super Hot in a way), but ain't no way anyone is funding that.

The comparison with Super Hot is really interesting, something like that could definitely work although I think it shouldn't be ONLY that. It could maybe be a trigger, a special mode that you can turn on anytime you want, but it would also be fun to be able to play and free roam with high speed in real time to have a more actual sense of speed / adrenaline too. This could also lead to more gameplay variety with different scenes using different speed modes.

Real time Flash would be lame, why would he be so slow? If he was anywhere near his actually speed you would be able to control him.

Sonic always suffered from this in 3D games and he isn't anywhere near as fast as Flash is supposed to be.

I meant a real time world where you can run fast as flash but not necesarilly at his max speed, just a really fast paced gameplay in a real time scene, and then when it's needed you could activate the full speed which would be that slow motion / super hot mode.

I just can't picture any game like that, fast movement and 3D don't go together unless it's a racing game or something on a massive scale.

You'd probably end up with a game where Flash is just a slightly fast and way more uninteresting Batman.

Wonder Woman is already coming. I suspect a new Batman is being made for some surprise announcement a *insert gaming event here* in the next few years. And I think Superman is on the way as well.

Everyone always says you can't make a Superman game because he's too powerful and only has one weakness, and flying's boring, etc, etc. As if a game being too fun has ever been a problem.

But anyways, they could make a Telltale style Superman game. You wouldn't have the overpowered claim then.

But the point of The Flash is that he's really good at being really fast. If you make a Flash game where it moves super fast and the challenge is to keep up with it, then you're not playing as The Flash, you're playing against The Flash.

Look at the flash gta mod

I guess?

But nobody's saying it's hard to make a game where you run fast (or can fly, in the case of Superman.) That's all easy. Making a fun game of those powers, that's what has eluded game designers when working with these superhero characters. Spider-Man, you can do web-swinging, and that in and of itself is fun (which would also be the same for running or flying, for a bit) but the character also lends itself and those abilities to gameplay techniques & challenges for players to utilize and master.

If all anybody wants to do is run through a city fast or fly over a city (also fast) and smash into things and just carelessly be nigh-invulnerable, then enjoy those MODs. But if you want to play a game, to be challenged by obstacles, to enjoy a story of consequence and thrills, to conquer it and feel good about your time spent enjoying it, then there's more to it.

...Not saying that Flash or Superman can't be game heroes, but there's a reason why there are few good superhero games even now, in an era where they would undoubtedly sell.

*And same goes for Marvel, BTW; the company has all the money in the world to churn out games based on its heroes, but after the first gen of MCU movie-games (Thor: God of Thunder, Captain America, Iron Man 1&2, unfortunately The Incredible Hulk after the fun Hulk Ultimate Destruction) sucked, they backed down to regroup and focus on doing good games, not just any old games based on characters which would sell.

The Flash video game would have to be massive, like world-spanning. You'd have to make it so that the losing conditions are if too many people get hurt or die instead of The Flash dying himself, and you'd have to plan your best course of action if people are in danger at two different regions of the world. Planning the wrong way can end up in a mission failure and there will be random elements(like a villain appearing, another incident nearby, or the environment itself changing) during missions to keep you on your toes. It should be just as tense as it would be fast, and it should test your ability to move with precision and elegance so that you yourself aren't causing collateral damage while you're running at mach speeds.

Wonder Woman would be a pretty cool action game with some awesome settings. I'm imagining a GoW 2018 inspired combat system with the amazon and a city setting. Sign me up for some Princess action!

rocksteady seemed like they turned the corner in the 360 era to be a top tier dev, then basically took the entirety of last gen off

Wonder Woman because woman protagonist. And because of her restraint both human thugs and aliens both can be implemented.

Green Lantern because under a good director his make anything ability can be a GOTY contender game if done right.

Early footage from around 2008. Cancelled due to the publisher folding.

That looks awful. The weird part is it doesn’t even look like he’s running that fast. The only plausible explanation is the game shows The Flash running in slow motion so it looks like he’s not actually running that fast but is in fact running extremely fast. However, the problem with that rationale is relative to The Flash everything else should hypothetically look like it’s not moving at all while The Flash is running… but that isn’t the case as it looks like cars are moving at about 1/10 to 1/20 the speed of The Flash. If cruising speed of a vehicle is 35mph, then The Flash would be moving between 350mph to 700mph, but that seems “slow” by accounts of the character since I saw something on Google that said he ran around the world (a circumference of ~25k miles in 10 minutes), which would clock him in at 150,000 mph.

And therein lies the problem with DC characters. They make them too powerful, and it’s hard to adapt them to video games or whatever. Same thing applies to Superman as The Flash. Neither are that interesting, and devs would have to nerf their powers to make it work, even if it were open world (since traversing the world would take no time whatsoever and you would wonder how they’re not destroying buildings/etc.).

The last 30 seconds of the video dude... also they could do a whole game about the speed force not giving him full power until it does.

And while the developers haven't stated such, i am pretty sure that's a tech demo rather than actual gameplay.

I think a Flash game would be fun if he was allowed to manipulate time within the combat itself.

Green Lantern would be perfect for a videogame. Please for god's sake do not have him on earth. Green Lanterns are space police and where they are stationed has nothing to do with their species.
