Couldn't get 60fps locked for the life of me with evetything maxed and 2xAA on DR2 even if much more demanding games gave me no problem.
Since I've yet ti really sink my teeth on DR2 I'd play this one instead if the port is better this time.
What does your setup look like?

It's nothing super but still more than decent and more than enough for DR2:
i5 3.2Ghz, OCed 5850 1GB, 4GB DDR3, W7 64-bit

Even without any AA, no blur and lowering settings I still couldn't get 60fps locked.

Bump:
Anybody? Pretty please? :D
Engine's improved y/n?

I heard that turning on dof kills the framerate. Try turning it off and see if you can get it running 60fps solid.

I have to say I find the reviews of this game pretty baffling, especially over on Giant Bomb. Essentially the criticism is, "the game is better than DR2, but it's the same game." ...Yes, it is. What did you expect when you saw that original trailer?

It's one thing to argue about the ethics of Capcom doing stuff like this, but I think reviews of the product itself should take it for what it is a bit more. It was obvious that this game was DR2 with Frank swapped in for Chuck. It's ridiculous but so is the whole series. Ignoring that and expecting a new storyline is setting yourself up for disappointment IMO.

There are three magazines which increase your gambling ability. Grab all three before playing these guys (forget their locations) and you'll get great cards every deal.

Not to mention that instead of playing poker with them you can also just shoot them in the face. I don't think Off the Record has an achievement for saving all the survivors like DR2 had, so you can just save whoever you feel like.

For those of you playing the PS3 version, does it look better than DR2 did on PS3?

I have the PS3 version. The engine is definitely a lot more cleaned up than Dead Rising 2. The colors are brighter and the framerate (excluding Uranus Zone) seems more stable. Excluding the initial load (which is the longest) the load times seem slightly better but are still quite long for the amount of data they install (3.95 gigs).

wow really enjoying this, as someone who finished the original in fact maxed out my character yet couldnt get into the sequel. Having to find zombrex added an additional "cant take my time and enjoy the scenery" on top of the regular time limited cases. Its great finally there is a true sandbox mode without time limit or that decreasing health of DR1's mode.

have to say, its great playing as frank again having experienced his story in the original. I therefore felt more connected than the new character of DR2 (I gave up playing not too far into DR2).

I love the photography mechanic coming back I think it adds greatly to the immersion value, adding a reason to care about the non combat areas and survivors. Made me laugh taking a picture of the scantily clad survivor and not only getting an erotica bonus, but the porn style comedy music snip plays!

Its been long enough since I tried the original DR2 that's its really fun playing a remix with a full story, as it feels completely new to me (having not played the DR2 original a lot or far through). In particular I am having fun just messing around and exploring and doing crazy stuff like skateboarding around feeling like its a real mall and I can do whatever I want. The detail is amazing and it really does feel like a real mall.

I found a way you can get infinite PP before the main game even starts properly, I think I reached level 8 and unlock couple health upgrades, speed, the awesome jumping kick
when zombies are released after you get out of elevator, you see a bunch of them behind a impassable metal gate thing with many of them feeding on humans. you can keep taking pictures over and over with full PP each time usually 1000-1300 or so a pop

Playing through DR2 vanilla proper, sort of hoping that, if and when, I get OTR I will be appreciative of any 'winks and nods' thrown in for those that did experience Chuck's side first.

More I play though, more I realize how little I want to re-experience the game. Just did the 'poker game' against three asshole survivors that took me a dozen attempts to beat. They refuse to be saved unless you beat them all at Poker. PLEASE TELL ME that crap isn't back in OTR for Frank? Cheating assholes. I know it's 'Vegas' and gambling is likely to play into the progression in some manner, but what a downer that quest was.

I'd say it's still in the game (haven't gotten that far yet), but it's easy, peasy if you collect the 3 gambling magazines before hand.

This. I used to have a gtx 275 coupled with i7 920, and turning off Dof, helps a lot with average fps. Also you could try with Fxaa solution for jaggies.

I'm in love with this game.
Played it much more than I should have today.. and still didn't wanna put down the controller when I had to go to sleep!
So glad they brought back Frank West.
I missed having his moveset. Felt so much more powerful than Chuck.
I'm also glad that they added in new moves for him. This really is a lot better than Dead Rising 2, imo.
I'm having so much fun and I haven't even jumped into co-op yet XD
And I love good co-op games.

It's a "what if" game .. but its not sure what this'll mean for the future of the franchise .. the Blue Castle guys were pretty happy claiming this version of the game as the directors cut.

Ya see, that's not cool

I'm still prefer Chuck over Frank in the end =/

Glad to hear the positive impressions. Gonna pick up the PC version.

I think they've been fairly clear this is more of a goofy what-if take on DR2. I'm sure if (when) DR3 comes out this won't be canon.

Playing the game some more on the PC and I am noticing something strange. There is something wrong with the ingame settings. While it does Vsync and other stuff, turning off blur doesn't seem to do anything ingame. DOF is still active even when I have the option set to off.

It probably helps that I finished DR1 so I already have an attachment to Frank as a character, but its great playing an older, overweight, not particularly attractive character when almost every single game has a young, in good shape, attractive lead. Its another way that the game is unlike any other game out there. I enjoyed dead island despite its many flaws yet its amazing how different in feel and ambience these 2 games are as if they were in totally different genres.

Case West was pretty much the answer to DR3, dunno why this is up for debate. We have our "villain" and new Umbrella corporation.

Reading the OP and many of the replies, I feel like I've entered a thread full of inside jokes that I am not meant to know.

As someone who really liked DR1, all these releases and DLC's are confusing the hell out of me for when I actually decide to jump into DR2. Can someone explain what's been released and what the order is? Capcom has jumbled this series way too much for me to follow.

Is the order:

Dead Rising
Dead Rising: Case Zero
Dead Rising 2
Dead Rising: Case West

and Dead Rising Off the Record is just a remake of DR2 with Frank as the main character instead of random dude? So theoretically I could substitute off the record for DR2 and not miss a beat?

No, DR2 OTR is a very different story. The Chuck timeline is more canon, but Case West could be considered not canon depending on the timeline.

Off the Record is completely different from DR2, from the intro alone. Different scenes, different events... It's definitely a "what-if" scenario. They even advertise it as such.

Frank's TIR intro > Chuck's Slicercycle... man I hate Slicercycle

Unless DR3 is a Frank and Chuck game, I would prefer a new protagonist. I loved how they set up DR 2 with Case Zero. In many ways I like both Case games better than the main games. I'd love a few more Case games with new leads in the interim leading up to a DR 3.

pretty excited about isabella's escape, i hope they bring back her original VA and not make her a generic scientist, cause that would be lame.

seriously though i know i'm probably the only person who like DR's story, but case west was pretty horrible. it pointed the story in a really cliche angle, and isabella was just a damsel in distress generic scientist character.

Yeah, it didn't work for me either. Sure she has the intelligence, but she also had the brawn to fuck things up as well. You don't lose that with age, usually. If Frank was able to keep fighting Isabella who was always in better shape should have been able to as well. I think that she was simply thrown in as a device to further compel Frank into action. It would have been much more satisfying to see her put up more of a fight.

Perhaps in DR3 there will actually be a female protagonist that is playable to counter but who knows.

Nah, I like the story, too. But I do agree that they made her seem more helpless than she is.

Does anyone know if more Capcom-themed items were added? Similar to the Mega Man X outfit and Arthur outfit, I'm hoping they added something new for this game.

Engine's improved y/n?

That's my setup and I get a perfect 60 with everything on high. Weird. The only diff is I don't have anything OC'd. I use D3D instead of in-game Vsync, and I have DOF disabled.

Played some co-op today. It's kinda broken because if a player is down you can use any food to fully revive them.

Almost better to let them die an just use a snack to get them back to full.

Thanks. My situation is like this:

Got DR2 for pc, and I regret it.

I have a 360 and ps3, but I prefere to play on my ps3 as it is connected to a 60"tv and my 360 has died so many times, so I kinda avoid buying new games for it.

Therefore I'd like to know if anyone has compared dr2: ot on ps3 to dr3: ot on 360.

Played story for like 4 hours yesterday and love it. Though I've found a total of 2 PP stickers, both of which were on work benches. Some of the new combos are great. Did they take drink mixing out, because I haven't seen a blender yet...though I rarely used them in DR2. Also, Zombrex locations are gone/have changed. Only regret is not taking on Chuck, I remember the fight against the TiR guy from DR2 being a bitch so I skipped it.

Need help with a psycho ..

how do you
get to the psycho's on the roofs in the main strip later on ? I've only managed to find a ladder to one of them, the one that's over the hotel's roof is particularly annoying ..
