Anyway - what I am trying to say... Are we going to let giantbomb get away with 2/5 ?
Well, yeah, why not?

Reviews are just an individuals opinion, nothing more.

What speaks volumes though, is that a specific group of individuals who were cheering about the low scores are awfully quiet now that people in here are playing the game and pretty much agree that those reviews didn't do the game justice.

Its strange. Critics gave Days Gone a kicking earlier this year for not being different enough, now some are doing the same thing to Days Stranding for being too different.

Honestly, not sure what they expect or want within the framework of an open-world game these days.

They just want hits because they're losing relevance.

I spent a few hours watching streamers play this last night.

Boy, people reeeeeeally don't like this game. Every stream I went on was just people hating on it.

Also, I swear the story was lifted straight out of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

But, just playing devil’s advocate- if that was true (that they’re losing relevance), then why are there review embargos and “countdowns until reviews are public” and everyone talking weighted average scores from critics?

The reviews are supposed to be a tool used to help us, the consumer, make a decision.. And reading one review is never enough, be it a product on Amazon, a restaurant, a movie or a game. You are supposed to read a bunch and make your own decision based on the knowledge you’ve gained

It's not a hiking or walking simulator... I am starting to hate those reviews. The game is not boring and if it is go play call of duty or something.
Even rdr2 was more boring with it's limited mission design and slow controls.
Anyway - what I am trying to say... Are we going to let giantbomb get away with 2/5 ?
:messenger_tears_of_joy:

What are you proposing? Murdering someone because they don't like a game that you do?

Yes, it is getting raided by both sides. And?

Well, there you go...
...whilst conversely, some of the 0/10s are fighting back against the blind 10/10s.

It cuts both ways, just as he said.

People are creatures of The Passions.

So, the 0/10s equally as fake as the 10/10s. Agreed?

The entire point of the game is to walk across rugged terrain carriyng heavy packages.

How else would you describe the gameplay?
I believe it is a puzzle.
It is a big dynamic puzzle where the players needs to resolve to go from a point to another.

Each new delivery feels like a new adventure where you need to resolve a new puzzle... the fact that even doing the same delivery the puzzle become unique and different already tells how much care Kojima put in the game design.

The gameplay is a blast to play... it is revolutionary, intuittive and different of anything you played before.

It the best game I played this generation and one of the best gaming experience of my life.

The gameplay is so addictive that I just want to play more, more and more... I can't stop to thinking about it when I'm not playing it.

This game is the perfect example you won't get what is the gameplay watching.

Watching will just look like a boring, slow paced movie.

It absolutely IS a walking simulator..... and there’s nothing wrong with it if that’s what you like

The game JOURNEY is a walking simulator and it was cool. Again, not a game, but an EXPERIENCE

Death Stranding doesn’t have to be a game, it can be an experience, and that’s ok for some. I’ve yet to decide if I’m gonna try it - not because of money but because of time

I read reviews and watched gameplay for Last of Us and decided “DAMN I GOTTA TRY THAT!”

I read reviews and watched gameplay for CONTROL and DAYS GONE and thought, “DAMN! I GOTTA TRY THOSE!”

I’ve read and watched countless reviews and videos of Death Stranding, but I still don’t know what I’m gonna do?
Why? Because it doesn’t look like a game. It looks like an experience, such as JOURNEY (although longer)

this whole post reads like ad lmao the hyperbole about unique puzzles, I get that some people like this game and it's systems but come the fuck on with it being revolutionary xD take off your pink painted glasses

Wasn't that one of the main objectives for Breath of the Wild?
I think it was Aonuma who said that the puzzles would be less about dungeons and more about how the player gets to an objective, thus making the traversal itself a puzzle.

But Death Stranding is a game.
A pretty good game.
There are more gameplay mechanics than 90% of the game you play today.

It is just not an action oriented game.
It is an adventure.

There comes a point when you simple have to accept that some people are not going have that "Ah-,hah!" moment wherein they realize the fact that 2+2=4, no matter how patiently you try to explain it to them.

Aristotle called it 100% a failure of comprehesion.

I call it the Frozen Paradox.

This Ethomaz dude really needs to play Botw for open world puzzle game and non linear gameplay structure.

Death stranding = linear story and gameplay progression. Point A to point B kind of game.

Embargos are just standard procedure.

And countdowns and such are just ways to hype up the crowd, specifically because they need to stay relevant.
If you make sure that something seems important, people are likely to think it's important, right?

The reviews are supposed to be a tool used to help us, the consumer, make a decision.. And reading one review is never enough, be it a product on Amazon, a restaurant, a movie or a game. You are supposed to read a bunch and make your own decision based on the knowledge you’ve gained
Can't argue with this though. That's a given.

It is different from the BotW you can go anywhere.

In Death Stranding you can't go anywhere without work enough to cross that path you choose... the delivery packages makes the game exploration genial... you need to care about it, you need to have equipment that affect the paths you can choose, you need help from online be players depending the path you are doing.

If you faced a path you don't have hability, equipment or help from online enough to cross it you will need to go back and find another path.

And when I say path is not something big... it like 5 meters path you need to cross.l just like real life.

When you face a river in real life what you do?
When you face a mountain?
When you face a waterfall?

Add to that that you carrying a lot of weight on your back and that affects the gameplay.

It is done different of each free open world game we have see for years already including BotW.

You are not free... you need to play a lot to cross obstacles.

The open world is your enemy just like in real life.

It is really revolutionary even for Open World games.

Death Stranding imo is better for Open World design than BotW... they are complete differents.

BTW the game is not linear even if the story is... get from point A to B is a dynamic non-linear adventure itself.

I'm curious, what qualifies as gameplay and in turn makes something a game, rather than an experience, according to you?

Very weird that you make the claim that Journey isn't a game. It's nothing but gameplay.

I believe most question what I'm explaining did not played the game? Because there is no way to make these comparisons with BotW or others Open World games if you played Death Stranding.

It is different from all others Open World games created.

Well Journey for me is a puzzle.

The different experience (from others games) is only the online interaction.

But Journey is definitely a puzzle game

Can't wait for Breath of the Wild 2 so people can fill that thread with stuff about how it's no Death Stranding. Oh wait, that probably won't happen because no one is as awful as Nintendrones.

It's not a walking sim. There are way too many mechanics and too much gameplay involvement for it to be a walking sim; it's a mix of hiking and survival with problem solving. There is also challenge, death and penalties involved, two things which walking sims don't have. I can understand people not liking it as it's definitely not for everyone. Also saying those who don't like it "don't get it" is bullshit, it's not a matter of getting it or not. It's just a style of game that some people will enjoy, others may grow to enjoy and many will find boring. It's cryptic, pretentious and weird with some cringeworthy dialogue and terminology. But for those who like it, such as me, it's compelling and unique.

I don't get why people are so hostile towards it on here. If you don't like it fair enough, a lot of people don't and won't. But hey, it's a rare opportunity these days for a game designer to have complete freedom to make something completely different with a AAA budget.

Also those ragging on performance. Seriously? Those minor drops are during cutscenes and not gameplay. They won't effect your experience. The game looks incredible.

I agree 100%.

But I'm not trying to say people don't get it at all.
I'm saying that not playing it and just watching streams won't make you understand the game.

That is all.

I tried to explain how the gameplay works but it is imposible to see that in videos... you need to try yourself.

There is no other way to understand.

Now after understand how game works in terms of gameplay it is your own personal taste to like it or not.

But the comparison with BotW are hilarious because it is so different that only people that watched streams can do these comments lol

That's a good question. Now, wasnt Crazy Taxi a "racing" game, meaning, racing against time? Pick up passenger, cut across lawns, try not to crash, drop off passenger...etc?
I guess when something is "fast paced" it registers more easily as a GAME, but if something is a slow burn, it registers as an experience.

These are the type of convos I'm looking for in helping me decide if I wanna buy this. Again, not because of money, but because of time. I jumped in immediately to try JOURNEY because I read that it was short (like 2 to 6 hours). That's like a snack.

Dynamic non linear adventure you just described BOTW.

In BOTW you can follow normal structure of point A to point B then to point C and etc or point A to point C then to point B or you can just skip to point Z(final boss) without doing any point before that.

Please show to me of your definition about dynamic adventure by going straight to the final boss like BOTW without game breaking bug or exploit

You can't really compare BOTW with DS.

BOTW is an open-world game, but DS has invisible walls everywhere.

I don't own a single Nintendo console.
You should, you should play more video games otherwise your opinion counts for less, just like you essentially told my friend earlier.

You can't really compare BOTW with DS.

LOL this totally jives with your "I don't own a Nintendo console" shit.

So all that defines a game from an "experience" is time limits? So if DS had a time limit and you had to move faster to deliver stuff, you'd suddenly consider it a game? Also if Crazy Taxi didn't have a time limit it wouldn't be a game?

Actually the walls are not invisibles... they are a red barrier created to protect the territory.
If it become blue you can cross it.

You can see the barriers and even shows in the map.

Death stranding is in a special place when ut co
Without a doubt my favorite Kojima game/story to date
-Delivering packages is more fun than anything in MGS
-Cut scenes are mesmerizing
-Describing the game play in one word: Prudence

-My only gripe thus far is mission endings and the obnoxious and overly complicated grading system which is too on the nose with MGS. This game is not MGS but that is just MGS in this game and every time I see it I really want to ask Kojima the decision to do that rather than be unique.
hahaha kinda crazy right how fun and satisifying delivering a fucking package can be? I stil cant believe he made a game around it and its really fun. skil up was one of the only reviewers who talked about that. making gaming elements of walking

You can see them when you hit them. Pretty much the same thing.

Still stands, you can't go anywhere in DS. It's not an "open world".
