December NBA Season Thread - Fuck the police

I don't know if cry or laugh. The Sonics just jack up 3's like mad men to see what happens and it just works. Even bank shots fall down. It's disgusting.

One day they will stop falling and they'll need to start playing defense.

Yahoo sports recaps aren't updating the game stats in their box scores, even though the game scores themselves update. Any other live update sites out there for a dial-upper like me? :D

EDIT: Wow, Spurs made a game of it. Down just 4 with 7:00 to go.

Thanks-- but how did you know I wanted the Phoenix/LA game? ;) :P

That was the only one on Yahoo that wasn't updating, though, for some reason. :P It's working now, but they're sorta playing catch-up with the stats.

One thing I really give the Sonics props for, is that they are really taking advantage of the new rules so far, because it fits their system and players perfectly. Still, it's really hard to gauge what kind of success they'll have in the long run. They have a group that works really hard, but when you see how much they depend on their jump shooting, you're just waiting for that one bad shooting week, one bad month that will end the dream.

There's just no way you can't put them above teams like Minny, SA or Detroit, even if they beat them in the regular season.

Still, props to them for doing an excellent job up to this point.

I KNOW! This is the best game I've seen all season. It's so freaken fun to watch. They're already in the 80s and the 3rd isnt even close to over... This would have been a great game to televise nationally. Too bad

What the fuck are you talking about? "Just jack up 3's?" When you shoot 40% for the season from 3pt land, you're not just "JACKING UP THE THREEES".

And are players even allowed to breathe on Duncan without the whistle being blowed? Jesus...Anyway, Bati, name the only team in the NBA to score 100 against the Spurs(Hint: They've done it twice).

Did you even watch the first half? Where the Sonics outrebounded the Spurs by 11, and outscored them IN THE PAINT 30-16? Obviously not. Btw, as for "they'll need to start playing some defense" line, they're 8th in opponents(93ppg) pts allowed, and are now 12-1 against last years playoff teams.

Take your defeat like a man. Thnx.

Lakers on pace to score 120 this game. I'm not sure they can win this game if they're gonna try to outscore Phoenix, though they've been successful up until this point.

Seattle impressed me with the win tonight. Still, shooting like that can't last a season, much less a playoff run. Their defense is fairly solid of late, however.

Oh shut the fuck up already. Jesus. They've throttled the Spurs twice this year, destroyed Minnesota at Minnesota, crushed the Kings by 30, lead the league in offensive rebounding and 3pt shooting, and you guys are still looking for faults.

And yeah, bati, they really depended on the threes tonight. I guess I was watching another game when Evans, Fortson, and Alllen were scoring at ease in the paint.

:lol :lol :lol

Don't get so defensive.

My first post was out of frustration of seeing the Sonics respond with threes whenever they wanted, especially after the Spurs closed the lead to 83-81. Especially Allen's bank shot. They won tonight deservedly so. They killed the Spurs in the 2nd quarter and SA had a tough time recovering.

But I'm not trying to put down the Sonics. I think they're doing great this year and they have a great team, I'm just not sold on their system 100%. I don't see anything wrong with that. Most people aren't. They're a really hard working group. Three bulls in the paint that will give anyone hell for a rebound and a bunch of sharpshooters that are shooting lights out.

And as I wrote in my previous post, they're using the new rules in their advantage because it favors their players and the system they have implemented and I think that is great. And what's that? As the article you posted, very similar to the european national teams, who rely heavily on perimeter shooting.

If you can say to me with a straight face that the Sonics don't live and die by the jump shoot I'll give you a prize. Hey, it's work wonders for them and who know, it might work for a long, long time. But anyone using a little logic, could see that their system, albeit very dangerous and extremely difficult to stop, could hit a huge roadblock at any point during the season, when the shooting goes cold. And then they won't have as many weapons as the favorites(Minnesota, San Antonio and Detroit) to respond to adversity.

This is why the Suns are a paper tiger-- they have no defense at all. Defense wins playoff series and, ultimately, championships. When you let Chris Mihm and Cook go for 16+ apiece, you lose. I'd be surprised to see Phoenix come back and win this, since they can't seem to stop LA from scoring.

1:22 LAL - Layup by C. Butler
1:09 LAL - C. Butler steals the ball from J. Johnson
:54.9 LAL - K. Bryant misses a 12-foot jumper along the right baseline
:27.9 LAL - K. Bryant misses the first free throw
Go Kobe :lol

Kobe has been off on his shooting including free throws for a while now... Not sure what's wrong. I hope he gets his shooting touch back soon though. I believe that's the reason why he is driving and kicking more.

That's really all he needs to do. If he did that and only took open shots, the Lakers would be a playoff team.

Q!!!!!!!!!!

:( Lakers lost. Great game though. Now I wanna buy tickets to the next time the Suns come in.

Well, I mean he's even missing open shots. Open shots that he used to be able to make 90% of the time.

Suns boyee!

God damn that was nice and it showed how much freaking heart they have and what a great team they are.

Most entertaining team in the league? Yes.

Kobe needs to hit his fts and how the hell do they leave Q open for that 3. But fuck that, they were up 13 in the 4th *dies*

Kobe chokes again in the 4th this season :P

CHOKE.JPG

Wow, so Kobe missed a game winning/tying shot? That's happened a few times this season. :P I'll just copy and paste my exact post from the previous Laker game while substituting tonight's numbers (except for the 8 TO's-- that's the same :P):

"Well, I'll give Kobe some credit: he gets it done in the other categories when he's playing like crap offensively (which seems to be often lately), but 7-23 from the floor with 8 TO's just isn't gonna get it done..."

He's also playing HEAVY minutes-- what's he averaging, like 43 minutes/game? That's nuts considering what he's counted on to do when he's out there. Way too many minutes imo.

Kobe right now reminds me of Bob Sura on the Hawks last year. :lol :lol

pfft... his name shall not be mentioned with the great #8

The Lakers problem is that they have no guy who can contain the post or pg on his own so they keep leaving guys on the perimeter to double those two weaknesses. That won't work on a good-shooting team and it has to be addressed. Trade for a big since Vlade and Grant are only there to warm the bench and cheer >_<

Kobe Bryant: 39.7% FG and 4.67 TO's per game this season

The great #8 :D

Why not post all the other SGs with comparable stats? ;)

Then when you're done, see how few are even close to his pts, assists, blocks and boards at that position...

WAAAHHH!!! WAAAAAHHH!!! Give Kobe a perfect team so he can look good again! WAAAAH!!! ;) :D

check out the interwview with kobe and jack jailey right NOW on FSW ...Kobe denigning EVERYTHING :lol

Denying everything? I was listening to the radio and heard this interview in its entirety when they did it. He didn't say anything wrong. First time I heard it, I felt there was nothing wrong and I agreed. Karl said its more than just this... that they had an argument a couple weeks ago and that's most likely a major part of this. There was nothing with what Kobe said at all and Karl just wants to win a championship and used this to get out of his word.
