The Democrats complaining about Sanders, some of whom have histories with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s campaign, argue the rhetoric being employed by the Vermont senator in some cases goes too far in damaging his rivals.

They say it will make it harder for the party to unify around a nominee, and they’re particularly worried that supporters of Sanders won’t back any nominee who isn’t their favored candidate.

“He needs to stop,” said one Democratic strategist, who is not affiliated with any of the presidential campaigns. “It's not helpful and it actually hurts the party. It’s like he didn't learn his lesson the last time. It’s incredibly short-sighted and terrible.”

This strategist pointed to the senator’s recent remarks in a Los Angeles Times editorial board meeting where he said that President Trump would eat former Vice President Joe Biden’s lunch if he is the nominee.

“Joe Biden is a personal friend of mine, so I’m not here to, you know, to attack him, but my God, if you are, if you’re a Donald Trump and got Biden having voted for the war in Iraq, Biden having voted for these terrible, in my view, trade agreements, Biden having voted for the bankruptcy bill. Trump will eat his lunch,” Sanders told the Times.

Biden isn't the only rival Democrat taking fire from Sanders, and it's not just those who worked on the Clinton campaign who are complaining about him.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), the progressive Democratic candidate who has been a friendly rival to Sanders, on Sunday criticized her fellow candidate. Warren said she was "disappointed" that the Sanders campaign had been using a script for its volunteers to tell potential voters that Warren was appealing mainly to upper-income Democrats and would not bring in new supporters to the party.

“I was disappointed to hear that Bernie is sending his volunteers out to trash me,” Warren said. “I hope Bernie reconsiders and turns his campaign in a different direction."
Seems like the Democrats haven't learned any lessons in the last 3+ years and may have the party split itself again. Not that I care or anything that's a good thing for Trump, but the fact Bernie is now a real contender that is becoming a worry for the DNC shows just how badly this field is falling apart. It's kind of like shattered glass with the pieces cutting into people.

I don't know. Has anyone that matters considered attacking him for only being a Democrat when its convenient? Good golly Mr. Biden, how are you holding the ball instead of taking a shot when faced with a golden opportunity to draw in Trump voters by outright calling him a far left socialist who does not speak for your party (nor even wants to when he's not running for President)?

It's funny how Trump is the "most divisive candidate" yet his party has united quite well behind him vs some other parties I know of and their candidates
My personal opinion: I think they rally behind Trump because they have no other choice. If they want to ever win an election, they cannot be split and must vote as one.

Otherwise, they run into a situation that happened to Canada recently. There was 2 right-wing parties against 4 fucking left-wing ones and yet, a single liberal party still got more seats than either conservative party.

The Left can fight each other but they still command the popular vote. The right doesn't quite have that luxury and it's only getting smaller if you look at places like California.

Bernie's comments are what many of us here have been saying about Biden. Biden is, at best, a vehicle to deliver the first woman president to the White House.

Here's hoping the gloves stay off this time and they keep mixing it up.

I bet Pelosi is holding on to the impeachment articles so she can time the Senate hearing to most disadvantage Sanders and Warren and help Biden.

The only real reason (IMHO) that the GOP is still a dominant force is that they appeal to a largely homogeneous (ethnically, culturally, religiously, etc) group. Diversity is a hindrance in politics. The DNC would do better if they could rally around unifying concepts instead of embracing identity politics that require demonizing others.

LOL at the CNN story about Sanders telling Warren that a woman can't win. That's funny then that Sanders would encourage Warren to run in 2016...and that he would obviously know that Clinton won the popular vote in 2016 by nearly three MILLION votes. But yes I'm sure Sanders said and believes that a "woman can't win".

The DNC or whoever is behind this is desperate and scared. I love it.

Edit: And the Warren campaign so far has had "no comment". I mean it's pretty easy to ask Warren herself and get an answer prior to running something like this...but it will also be simple for Warren herself to either confirm or deny this now....so....

Hearing that Sanders is a little misogynistic warms me a tiny bit :)

How long before he's cancelled?

You must have missed the 2016 GOP primary.
Hey, I said "largely" :)

And I want the GOP to appeal to everyone who wants a smaller more accountable government. I think that it is easier to cross walk a GOP plank like "no abortion" to a majority of Republicans and than it is to do the same with a single DNC plank since there is such disparity. Though I think the GOP would be almost unassailable if they could just drop a few of their domestic policy stances as I feel most americans are with them on foreign policy and a smaller gov in general. Sanders style socialism is not widely desired in america IMHO and only the "he ain't trump" effort is keeping any of the current candidates going.

The Bernie and Warren thing wouldn't have been so bad if he didn't lie and say it didn't happen and just played it off as some anti-gop thing.

Already on resetera you can see the graveyard piling up for Bernie supporters, just like 2016. Warren is likely saving this to kill him off and save herself tomorrow.

I was actually shocked that the majority of people in the Era thread seem to be sticking up for him aside from the hardcore Warren people who were definitely hardcore Clintonites in 2016.

We will see what happens if Liz actually makes a statement though...you know with “believe all women” and all that nonsense.

Nah, they actually think they have influence outside the Indie dev harassment sphere, so they’re not going to gaslight an attempt to tarnish their chances.

She wouldn't risk losing the chance of grabbing his supporters so if she does answer the most she will say is "oh he meant that there are so many sexists out there he didn't know if I could overcome that just yet" or similar.. She won't directly say that it's true because his supporters would become angry and go Bernie or nothing

From what I’ve read, most Sanders supporters are already done with her after today since the attacks are obviously coming from her camp anyway. Her silence just makes her complicit in the attacks and quite frankly, makes her seem like a coward for just not coming out and saying it herself.

So Warren confirmed the story and said that Sanders said a woman couldnt win. What a dumb ass. She just helped both Biden and Trump with a completely transparent desperation move and ruined her image and her campaign...for what?? In fact it will probably just help Sanders become untouchable like Trump.

Did she think this would give her a chance? I mean, Bernie himself already told her years ago she couldnt win!

This is what the Democratic Establish has been doing since 2016, it's nothing new. They'll continue to lie about Sanders to get him off.

But I thought the left were all about being respectful towards other people, no matter which religion or gender you are?

For shame Bernie. Being sexist.

Not really surprising though. Out of all the politicians anybody has seen the past 40 years, name one who acts like a curmudgeon like him.

Well, who to believe?

Warren says Bernie bashed her. Tulsi says he was a good guy.
This has nothing to do with policy. It's a meaningless distraction. Bernie is as progressive as it gets. He's not a sexist. This is one of the most retarded lies I've ever heard. It's straight from the Clinton campaign playbook. They have smeared and lied about him for 5 years.

Sanders literally campaigned for Hillary last time. She was a ....

woman

You would think, that for all their stated hatred of Trump, their rhetoric about doing anything to stop him from winning again, they’d be able to control themselves and bow out with grace.

instead all we get is race baiting, sexism baiting, hair pulling, screeching nonsense aimed at their own party when they lose.

This is great for Trump and terrible for democracy. I want the best two candidates I can get, not this roe-shambo you for it garbage.

Elizabeth Warren is one of the most slimy neoliberal shills I've seen coming from DNC. She uses progressive language but always changes the subject or avoids to be specific on progressive solutions about health care, student debt, the fucking bankers and so on. The fact that right at the time the corrupt DNC establishment starts panicking about Sanders her campaign leaks these bullshit smears about him shows what a pathetic snake she is.

Well, yeah. She is basically the establishment but has a cloak of pretending to be progressive.
Kind of like Hillary. She was super moderate, borderline light-right but everyone thought she was the left choice.

This is not news. We have known that Warren speaks with "forked tounge" for many years. She is corporate centrist but pretends to be progressive.
Why are people surprised to find this out now? It has been obvious forever.

Anyway. The DNC and the corporates holds all the money and at the end of the day they will decide who is the nominee.
It will not be Bernie. I said so a year ago, he will be Bernied again in 2020 and what are people gonna do about it?
The DNC and the corporate do not want a wild card. They want one of their own and that is what they will get.
So, .... Warren and DNC friendly media are running smear jobs and hit pieces on Bernie right now?
Well, I am so surprised.

It will be Biden, or if he stumbles it will be his backup, Warren, and Biden as VP. And such spoke the DNC.

We'll see. Everybody laughed at Trump at one point and look where he's at. Clinton even propped him up because she thought he had zero chance. Oops.

I think people are tired of the bullshit all around and in 2021 we will either have a Sanders presidency, or another term for Trump if you're right and Sanders isnt the nominee. I think that he will be though. We'll find out starting in just 3 weeks.

It is echoing our (UK) recent election and Corbyn, only they can't use the anti-semitism smear over there, so having to fall back on the sexism approach. It works folks. Gotta fight dirty.

When Trump ran for the first time, the Republicans were not uniting behind him before he got the nomination at all. Now that he is president, of course the party unites behind him in his second election, only under extreme circumstances would a party drop an active president. I am pretty sure the Democrats will align behind their candidate when he is set, as well.

I feel like a bet.
I won a bet about whether or not Pelosi would send impeachment to Senate on or before 31 dec, and the bet about there won't be a full scale war with iran on or before march 31 also looks good too.

You want to bet on whether the far left will accept and fall in line behind Biden or Warren if either of these two gets the nomination?
You seem to be confident they will happily follow and back the moderate nominee. I bet that you are wrong and they will not.
What should we bet ? Avatar control for one quarter?
