Despite strong sales, Days Gone Steam numbers half those of Horizon Zero Dawn

God of War will sell gangbusters on PC. For anyone to use one of the least popular exclusives as a sign that PC gamers don't want to buy the games are being incredibly disingenuous. Put Bloodborne or GoW or TLOU on PC and see how much that shit sells.
I"m a fan of the game, but cannot imagine playing it without controller.

Both sold like crap by any metric and should finally let Sony know it is foolish endeavor. Losing console sales to get almost no PC sales. PC games love to buy hardware but they sure don't like buying games.
You are forgetting that many pc gamers also have consoles for exclusives. If you have both and you are never going to replay HZD, why purchase it again on pc? Especially if the port is not great.

Are these PC ports even worth it for Sony? From what I remember, Horizon hardly sold gangbusters.

Say you sell 100.000 lifetime copies for Days Gone, at 30$ (PS cut)

That's 3 million. If the port costs less than that, it's definitely worth it for some extra revenue + brand awareness.

The port of a 71 metacritic game sells less than an 89 metacritic game on PC after the same was already the case on console?

Why does this suprise anyone? I don`t get it.....

Days gone absolutely had the best teaser trailer I've seen in the last decade, but it doesn't seem to have lived up to it, tracking its presence in public discourse. So i guess that's enough of a reason why it might not match the classic Guerilla title.

People forget but H:ZD launched in a dry period last year, so it had an easier time. Comparatively DG had to go up against some very popular releases like ME:LE & Biomutant all within the same timeframe.

For me DG is by far the better game, and I think over time it will have stronger legs on PC comparatively.
At this point i'm just happy that people consider biomutant a game that can steal sells from a AAA sony game :lollipop_squinting:

so it sold over 200k in 8 days, thats seems pretty good to me, rise of the tomb raider started out with poor sales and went onto to over 5 million didnt it?

I mean, it's not like you'd have to. PS and XBOX controllers work natively on PC, and games that more or less require a controller (Souls, Yakuza etc.) have no issues moving copies on PC.
Why would a person who owns PS4/5 play it on PC though.

All of this ideological fighting in this thread over a game as mediocre as Days Gone. It’s like GAF’s version of Vietnam. Even when it’s clear you should pull out, pride just keeps fucking with you.

You mean new release vs 2 yo game? It totally can.

In fact, game has double the amount of players than days gone pc did on release

Because it's better by any possible metric?

I owned Horizon on my PS4 Pro and I bought it again on PC anyway because I hated playing at 30 fps.

Well... Except I basically wasted money because it turns out I didn't like the game that much in general, regardless of performance limits.

There are other titles I own on PS4 which I'm more than ready to buy again if they get a PC release.
Days Gone wasn't one of them, by the way.

If the value to you is diminished by a PC port, that’s your own insecurities - no more, no less. No one owes you anything just because you have the console version. You bought and paid for a game on a console, and it continues to be a game on a console after a PC version releases. If it means that much to you, either sell the console versions when the PC versions release or don’t buy the console versions at all. No one is forcing you to do anything. Don’t take emotion over your decisions out on others.

The warrior tribe is nothing but people doing exactly that. Insecurities leading to attachment and loyalty to entertainment products sold by for-profit businesses to whom nothing is a factor until is affects profit. A few console warring fanboys pissing in the wind because their gods aren’t treating them like the special little boys and girls they want to be isn’t affecting anyone or anything except the threads they cry in.

Imagine thinking Sony or anyone else gives a shit that you’ve chosen to feel upset about your perception of value changing.

*ring ring*
“Hi, is that Timmy? It’s Jim Ryan. I was thinking of porting one of our games to PC, because it’s money for old rope and the PC market isn’t a direct competitor like Xbox is and the console sales have dropped, so we won’t be hurting our core audience in any significant way. But I wanted to make sure you’re okay with it because I don’t want you to feel like your PlayStation is less valuable now. No? You’re not happy because you think your purchase is less justifiable now? The other reasons to own a PS5 don’t matter to you, you’re in it for Days Gone and Horizon and that’s it? Oh okay, I won’t bother then.”
That's bullshit.

I already explained the value factor and how exclusive games play a role on it, and I dont need to repeat myself.

Horizon had sold 2-5mil week ago, on Steam alone. I bet taking into account all launchers, Horizon is probably around 5mil by now.
Days Gone may not end up that high, but its probably going to reach 2mil at least, accross all launchers.
These are old games, selling in the millions, all for the cost of a port.

People are dreaming if they think these numbers wont match, or even exceed Sony's expectations for these ports.
I don't think this is true. Horizon was only in bronze tier of yearly sales based on Revenue.

Yeah, and the explanation was idiotic garbage.

You guys are acting just like fanboys looking WAY too hard to rationalize your bias.
But you love to pretend to have a "legitimate reason to care".

Yes and so is Jedi Fallen Order, Sekiro. Metro Exodus, Death stranding, etc. Steam Spy had HZD at 2-5mil sales months ago, and HZD sold 700k in its frist week.
Taking into account that HZD is also on other launchers like Epic, i think its fair to say it will be around 4-5mil by now.
Even using the old 'number of reviews times 50' tactic of working out sales has HZD at 2.5mil (50k reviews times 50), and when a game has 'very positive' reviews, the number you usually use is close to 100 times reviews, as less people post a review for a good game.
Also AC Odyssey has been estimated to of sold around 9-10mil copies on Steam, and has 100k reviews, compared to 50k reviews for HZD.

Obviosuly these are just age old techniques of estimating sales on Steam, but either way its pretty obvious that HZD has sold in the millions on Steam alone.

Honestly, porting PS4 games to PC imo does take some of the appeal of owning the PlayStation consoles away, but it probably won’t do too much damage and can even be profitable for them I suppose. If or most likely WHEN they start porting PS5 games over, then PS5 is probably going to have serious trouble especially if they do day one releases like Microsoft.

Of course PC gamers are understandably ecstatic because they are getting PC exclusives(which will probably never come to PlayStation), indie games, older titles, literally all third party games, Microsoft games and now Sony’s games. The only thing saving consoles now is being cheaper and convenient.

It's just a fact, the sales number are very strong, regardless of that game's reception. That will no doubt have had an effect, and yeah I forgot RE:V which is an even bigger deal for the crowd that would've bought DG.

To be brutally honest though, from my observation PC gamers are the masters of port begging. Look at all the begging for Bloodborne or God of War on PC for example.
The Souls series sells huge on PC, and BloodBorne is one of the best. Of course PC users would want BloodBorne.
As for GOW, i dont see many people asking for it in the PC community. We will take it for sure, just like with HZD, Death tranding, and Days Gone, but yeah.

A good rule of thumb for a rough estimate is user reviews multiplied by 50. Meaning, one in fifty users bother writing a review.
with 49,402 reviews that makes around 2.47M sales on Steam and unknown amounts on EGS and GOG. Not bad for a game with a famously botched launch nine months after release and with the long legs games enjoy on Steam, it'll continue selling for years. Those are numbers impossible to ignore.

As Sentenza pointed out, it won't take many sales to cover development costs, so the game is generating a stream of free gravy for Sony.

Makes sense to me. The zombie postapcalyptic open-world game about a gruff biker with the usual Ubi-bloat and a selling point being big zombie hordes just doesn't spark as much enthusiasm as Horizon. Especially when you have to go against TLOU2.

Tribal girl vs Robot dinosaurs is a much more creative setting, but also the game looks better, has an attractive protagonist, a lot more engaging gameplay loop and simply reviewed much better.

Nah, I haven't seen much begging for GoW.

Bloodborne is different, I bet the PC version would easily outsell the PS4 version. A game that screams "PC" is shackled to ancient hardware, what a waste.

Your observation is trash.
Selective memory at best.
I know what I read and observed all over the internet. It seems like every time a new game gets announced for PlayStation or XBOX, there were people asking, where’s the PC port or why isn’t this coming to PC? I want to play it in glorious 120fps, 4k, etc, etc. I’ve even heard PC gamers say weaker “peasant” consoles are holding back gaming and all games should be on PC because of the superior hardware and stuff like that.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if Biomutant is getting a lot of refund requests on Steam. Currently the user rating for the game is 56% positive with nearly 3000 reviews. Days Gone is currently 91% positive with just over 5000.

I imagine a lot of people preordered, then played for an hour and refunded. Still, since the studio is quite small, they might actually make a profit. Who knows.

Biomutant isn't a port of a 2 years old game that already has been pretty discounted and even given away 'for free' to subscribers.

You don't know shit.
You conveniently overlook whatever doesn't fit your bias.

I could drown you in a deluge of posts of console players pestering developers about getting any given game on their PS4, XBOX not to mention the motherfucking Switch port begging that I swear it must be even more endemic (and invasive) that cockroaches and mosquitos these days.
Hell, chances are you may even be part of it, yet completely oblivious to it.

LMAO @ the usual (angry) PS warriors xD Of course those PC ports make sense for Sony, the games are already completed long time ago, all the development costs (tens-hundreds MLN) have already been covered, so those quick ports are nothing but an extra free money, they don't have to sell in god knows how many millions to bring a profit. And it's all digital sales on top of it, so again, even more profit from each copy.

Maybe it's that the PC crowd doesn't see Sony's games that interesting, let alone that amazing as fanboys hype them up, maybe PC crowd can see past the pretty graphics, which they're used to, maybe people are just sick and tired already of the zombies theme which has been done to death in the past decade, but long story short, it's an average game, with absolutely nothing making it stand out of the crowd. Horizon has an absolutely brilliant and unique world, feels like something new, something that's never been done before, and this one here is just another Zombie game no. 2362362103, with other, more interesting games released this month.

It'll do just fine in long term, like games on PC always do, will most likely gain traction in the next 2-3 months, but yeah, it's nothing to be hyped about right now,

Yeah that guy is on a role with his statements today. In another thread he said 'most gamers' hate Doom Eternal, Fallout 4, Outer Worlds, and a few others lol.
