The beta took a good while to complete in terms of the missions, and sure you could say I spent maybe 6 hours in total in it. But none of the missions felt special, they were mainly mundane tasks that you'd typical eye roll at as a side mission. I hope there are more interesting missions to come in the main game outside of go to point X and defend it while your ghost tinkers with something.

Not that we know of. It's possible that Bungie crafted shitty early missions and chose to show them off to the public during this beta without realising how shitty the missions were though. It's hypothetically possible that missions become better later in the game, but that's an assumption unsupported by any evidence.
I think Bungie's track record in mission and encounter design is probably a good bit of evidence to support the idea that the story missions would improve in quality.

-Points at avatar- You are biased. You are not allowed to say anything to me!

I will say if there's anything they've done right so far, it's that the sparrow is the best controlling vehicle I've ever driven in a game and it's the most fun, too.
If they don't have anything that let's you race them, i will be disappointed.

Punctuation police, internet forum shush, just shush. If this was my thesis I'd understand and would actually care but you caring here is something else.

Quite freaky really.

Hello If this was a formal report I'd understand.
I was just funnin' ya, that "sentence" was amazing. You must care more than you let on, though, since you went back and edited this post, adding a whole bunch of punctuation.

I didn't edit jack really. Or at least not before I saw your comment I do that naturally fairly quickly for spelling mistakes etc. I'm not going to say I don't care but I don't like being called out on it.
In spite of the fact I'm not spending any time on it, I hope it's not too horrendous, still ends up that way sometimes.

I think you guys seriously overract. OK, so the game will be smaller in scope than we anticipated, but it'll still be quite a big game that will last you for good 40-50 hours, imho (and that would be minimum). Is it that bad? For a SHOOTER it is not. And let's be honest, Destiny is shooter first and everything else last and if you treat it like that I'm not sure you can complain that much.

The only thing that bothers me, as I said some pages back, is the fact that some of the content is surely cut out to be sold later on but that's standard approach today, so, well, deal with it or vote with your wallet and skip the game. And we all know you wont' do that :)

Decided to cancel mine. Enjoy yet another high budget, PvP-focused game guys. This generation sucks...

So i enjoyed the beta for the most part. The shooting mechanics feel good and i like the atmosphere (graphics/design/music). Meeting people was anti-climactic since they dont really talk or anything. I am concerned about repetitive areas. I do hope the Earth isnt reduced to just Russia.

There's a lot of noise about this on reddit as well as other communities. There's been a lot of different things said and some hints can be interpreted differently (there's a scene in that E3 2014 trailer that shows guardians sitting down in an open area overlooking the city with the Traveler).

Hopefully they can just come out and clear the confusion, a solid answer is better all this guess work and chaos.

The PvE is fantastic though.
I'm still on the fence about that. Need to see how other missions fair. I do feel the shooting/melee is pretty solid though. I'm pretty accurate and I like throwing a knife at one enemy and then stabbing another in a second. Hunter all the way!

Compared to borderlands, yes it is. Compared to other PvE loot games? It's in the mix, but it doesnt standout from the crowd so far, imo. Good, but not 500 million good.
There's no other loot games out there that have the excellent mechanics that Destiny has in regards to gameplay. Playing loot games for loot sake only seems absurd to me if the core gameplay isn't fun.

There are a handful of areas locked off, I'd say the beta is 60-75% of the whole level.
i dunno, the only areas i coulnt go to was Kings Watch since its literaly locked off and the vault, i might be missing more.

This '500 million' bullshit is getting out of hand. All of a sudden people know the budget and it is becoming the next big hype to criticize a game for not having enough quantity, with all of it being based upon a few words and the rumor mill started going into overdrive.

There's I think one or two other areas, but I don't expect them to be that large.

Then again, I was surprised by how large the moon was for the Hellmouth.
Probably to make up for the rather unremarkable, restrictive surface area.

Enjoyed the beta as much as a beta could be enjoyed however, I kept looking up at space and thinking "why can't I go there?. Why can't I battle there?" Felt weird having a space ship yet feeling so restricted

Good, but not 500 million good.
Do you base all your entertainment-buying decisions on this perceived ratio of quality to cost-to-produce? Because, you know, YOUR cost is the same as every other AAA console game coming out.

"Pre-ordered CANCELLED! Borderlands 2 cost 100 million to produce and it was 100 million good. I expect a game five times a good as Borderlands, based on their development costs."

Why does Destiny objectively have been mechanics then Diablo, Magicka, Trine 2, Borderlands, PSO, SWTOR, WoW, Elder Scrolls, Dark Souls, DCU, FFXIV, Warframe, or the other loot based games? As a FPS, yes, Halo is a solid game, but in terms of it being applicable to a loot based game and there for better? I dont see it being decidedly better then the previously mentioned.

It's only 3 right? Seraphim Vault, Jovian Complex and King's Watch
grotos after the forgotten shore, underneath the ship forgotten shore, two under the buildings in the starting exploration area, the cave were your ghost has to decode the 3 barriers during the strike mission,

think there is another but cant remember were.

Wow... That's a lot less content than I was expecting. I didn't really enjoy the beta as a whole, but I thought the shooting was fine (for an RPG), and I'm sucker for customization. I was thinking about grabbing it anyways just so I can whore some loot, but it's looking to be an anemic game supplemented with overpriced DLC.

Will wait for sale.

I was making a point that the money invested doesnt seem to give it any advantage over the crowd. That said, if you invest that much it does make me expect more from a company. It may not mean I dont buy it, but it does set a certain amount of expectations. If I'm looking at destiny like I look at guild wars or Diablo, I play those games to spend a lot of time in them, away from other games. Right now I'll end up getting it, but will probably only play it when my friends are on. Like I said, it doesnt stand above the pack, in terms of loot based games, imo.

Okay, look. Let's use that complete Venus map as a base to try and nail this thing down. If there are 5 playable locations (Earth, Moon, Mars, Venus, Reef), each of which having 7 story missions, 2 strikes, and a raid (again, JUST going off that Venus map here. This is likely to be wildly optimistic), we're looking at 35 story missions, 12 strikes, and 6 raids. Let's continue to be generous and put the times at 20 minutes for each story mission, 45 for each strike, and 90 for each raid. That totals to juuuuuust under 30 hours, at the absolute most; if the other zones are less populated than Venus, or one of them is indeed just another social area, it's going to be considerably less.

That's pretty respectable for a shooter. Unfortunately, Destiny has been billed as also being an RPG, and a 30 hour RPG just barely clears the threshold of miserable disappointment. Explore mode can pad the numbers a little, but unless the release explore maps are considerably more fleshed out (more secrets, more interesting missions, more events), Destiny is looking like it's going to feature a loooooooot of grinding at release. I think it's fair for people to be apprehensive about that, especially in light of the story they presented in the beta (still hope there's more to that at launch.)

I saw this comment by a random on Bungie.net

"His answer was very vague he didn't say that there was "one" explorable area per planet but he mentioned that they're calling the planets "destinations" and that they've already revealed all the "destinations" in the first version of the game which are "planets".

So far we have Earth, Moon, Mars and Venus and they've also mentioned or have info on Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn and their Moons. We don't know how many or how big each area will even be."

Grotos is just the high level area right? Not really locked off. The place underneath the shipyard is just the actual Seraphim Vault entrance from what I could tell watching the videos on how to enter the Vault. The cave entrance from the strike area just loops back around to the first thing you mentioned, so not really locked off, just full of high lvl enemies
