jediyoshi said:if you pirate a game because there are ads during the loading screen, you are totally justified! brb while I pirate every tv show ever and some movies just because those trailers are kind of a hassle too.
Again, how do you feel about product placement in Tv shows and movies?MaddenNFL64 said:I do have some fucking personal ethics. This isn't that big of a deal, but if I was told beforehand this game would have advertising, it would make me think. I'm not into paying up the ass for stuff, then getting procter & gamble products advertised to me while I wait for an area to load.
People paid for the game and shouldn't have to put up with this shit, especially since they didn't know beforehand.Duke Togo said:Lets complain needlessly. That's why this place exists, after all. Criticize, flip out, purchase and play game anyways.
SalsaShark said:who said that? all im saying this is just another dev pushing more customers away. I dont want to pay 60 bucks on a game to get my face full of ads when i can spend that on a different one and not avoid it.

markot said:Thats different, its an ad that gives life to a scene, sure its coke, but whatever. Its more about the future being projected, the ads everywhere... etc...
This isnt what they did in this game, its during a loading screen >.> Its like Blade Runner having an add pop up in the corner during one of the movies 'slow' bits >.<

I've said it a million times before and I'll say it again now, but if games want to keep advancing we're also going to have to see a higher profit margin to justify the ridiculous costs of development.
hamchan said:...The game couldn't have bombed that badly right? Why do they feel the need to do this?

Wallach said:The development costs are the problem. Ads like this are a symptom.
Consumers have no responsibility to bear for it.

We're also talking about a game that has been HEAVILY discounted since week 1. Its a great game, the ads in my opinion are non-intrusive as its not like you're picking up a in-game book/reading an email and its saying "BUY the STAR WARS Blu-ray collection now!", its in the loading screens which I barely watch.
I think the gaming community is very whiny when it comes to self-entitlement issues like this.
I also can't believe the complaints these days when we continue to see anybody but the AAA studios get shut down or lay-off half their staff.
This makes me sad.
You would think he would have learned after the huge backlashes to the previous changes. Kinda fits they are doing something the customer doesnt want to promote it lol.SalsaShark said:I bet Lucas is desperate to sell those blurays after all the crappy press the changes made to them are getting.

I hate this argument because product placement can easily fit into a real life setting. Not all films are based in an alternative dimension where McDonald's and other places and products cease to exist.Calcaneus said:Again, how do you feel about product placement in Tv shows and movies?

Ninja patching ads in after I've bought the game is bullshit, pure and simple. If a game wants to have ads, go for it, but give me the choice.sersteven said:I'm really bothered by all the negative feedback this is gathering.
Holy shit. How is it that I'm still stunned when I read garbage like this?sersteven said:I think the gaming community is very whiny when it comes to self-entitlement issues like this.
I don't know, I'm way more "offended" when something goes out of its way to advertise in the actual movie/show/game.jim-jam bongs said:TV is primarily an ad-supported medium. With films it really depends on how heavy handed they are about it. Honestly, it can also be done in a way which actually increases the authenticity of the world, Mad Men being an obvious example

SalsaShark said:We should be thankful for everything! bend over!
Id take the game for 60 bucks instead of 50 over this. Games arent doing this, games are getting good revenue and this game didnt bombed. Sure, development costs get more expensive and they'll have to sort that out the moment AAA games stop making money, we are not in those times.
Giolon said:That's because so often they are very slippery. This little postage stamp, I don't give two shits about. It might ruin a screenshot I maybe would have wanted to take of the cool loading screen. That's about it.
But again, wait until some marketer comes in and says to the devs, "Hey, since you've got ads on this loading screen, what if you just added a couple seconds to the load time so we could get more ad play on there? We could maybe rotate through a couple of them. And you know, we've got access to the sound interface at this point too right? And we know their speakers are on b/c they're playing this game. Let's make it a video ad."
If you don't think these conversations are already happening or that they aren't going to happen very soon, I think you are naive.
sersteven said:Aren't we though? I know this is a bad case for my argument because Deus Ex has sold about 3 million copies as of now, but I continue to notice how pitifully non-shooter/non-established franchise games sell.
And again, I still defend it by saying that this is a game that sold nearly half off a few weeks into its release window. I personally got it for $45 from steam for pre-ordering.
I also stated that as long as non-intrusive I'm okay with it. I'd be all aboard this bandwagon if it were shoving it in my face, but its not. The day it does, I'll be right behind you.
Derrick01 said:It's just a loading screen so I don't really care. At least it's not on billboards in the actual game like they would on say...an EA game.
I haven't played this game, but is there more to the loading screens than just a splash image? If there isn't, than I don't think its the same as having an ad play while someone is driving during the movie. And I would be more pissed if Jensen was drinking a Coke and they blatantly focus the camera so that you can see the logo. I'd take a star wars thumbnail in a loading screen over that easily.MaddenNFL64 said:Never had a problem with product placement, because they don't spend time selling me on the product. If they do, i do get fucking pissed. But if Jensen is just drinking a fucking coke while he reads an ebook, I would be amused. Then i'd go drink a Pepsi.
I would care if when the movie hits a slow section, like driving a car, I see fucking Coke ads pop up while I watch. If you can't see the difference, well I don't care if you don't see it.
It's not a goddamn entitlement issue to figure that if you're paying 50 or 60 or even 40 dollars for a game, you shouldn't have ads patched in after the fact.sersteven said:I'm really bothered by all the negative feedback this is gathering.

If a non-first person shooter with a great, innovative idea but no notion over if there's an audience for it, but it such a cool and new idea that they want to try it out anyway and have to find a way through development cost: sure, i'll buy it. As long as they tell me about this beforehand.
A triple AAA first person shooter made by a big studio adding ads post-release after i already bought the thing? yeah no.

Guys, I'm not trying to defend this stuff, I just don't get where the hyperbolic comments are coming from. Really, you're gonna reconsider getting the sequel over this? To be fair, only one or two people went that far.
Not having the choice is what upsets me here. If it was in day one I could've known about it and avoided this game like the plague.Calcaneus said:Guys, I'm not trying to defend this stuff, I just don't get where the hyperbolic comments are coming from.
