Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - New previews, impressions thread

Will keep posting as they come in from recent press playthroughs (around 8 hours). Some quotes:

"Deus Ex: Mankind Divided's hubs are as deep and interesting as we hoped.
After two hours of playing Deus Ex Mankind Divided, I look around the press room. We’re halfway up a tower in central London, looming over the streets below, with the Shard framed in the window. On every screen, something wildly different is happening—after the linear (for Deus Ex) Dubai opening sequence, every single player of the ten or so journalists in the room has taken a different route into the main game. Presskind has been divided.

"Deus Ex: Mankind Divided could very well be my GOTY."
For many gamers, Mankind Divided will be one of their most-anticipated games of the year – myself included – and having played the first act, I can vouch for the fact that it’s simply unmissable. The story is delivered with a maturity and depth that I haven’t seen since The Witcher 3, and I can’t wait to see how far it goes, with Adam Jensen in the driving seat making key narrative choices and shaping the future of this apartheid.

For one, they’re much more dense – both in terms of the number of NPCs roaming around, and in the number missions, stories, and hidden goodies there are to partake of. Whether it’s a maintenance hallway tucked away in the back of a subway station or a seemingly abandoned second-floor apartment, I could barely make it from point A to B without finding some unsavory business to stick my nose in. This pleased me.

It’s abundantly clear that tons of love and effort has been given to the overall art design, the world-building, and enhancing the already strong emergent gameplay. And this is without even sinking my teeth into the 50+ Breach missions which allow you to experiment with various play-styles, uncover more information that ties directly into the narrative, and enjoy a bite-sized but intense diversion. It was one of those brief play sessions I was genuinely disappointed to be stepping away from, and I’m anxiously looking forward to continuing the journey when Deus Ex: Mankind Divided launches in late August.

"New augs, new weapons, and a killer story. This is gonna be good."
This is but a small snippet of what was an eight-hour play through from the very beginning of the game. To mention the Mafia-run casino in the city sewers, the shopkeeper I saved as his store was being ransacked by augs, or the moment I clambered up to very heights of Prague to avoid a police cordon only to fall to my death seconds later would give away too much. That's not to mention the first big mission, where Jensen is tasked with infiltrating an aug ghetto in order to retrieve an imprisoned witness. The latter is a showcase for Mankind Divided, a mission that encompasses sharp dialogue with the ghetto's less than fortunate inhabitants; great stealth and action sections, and the glossy, extraordinarily detailed visuals that impressed me so much when I saw first saw Mankind Divided at E3 2015 (like then, my demo ran on PC).

"How Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is balancing stealth, action, and story"
I replayed the Dubai tutorial mission that kicks off the game and went right into an expanded version of the Prague mission hub. In that part of the game, playing as Jensen, I had a lot more choices about how to break into a besieged bookstore and rescue the “aug” repair expert.

Most hyped release of the fall for me. I'm so ready for this. Human Revolution was fucking amazing, so if this even comes close, and it seems like it's going to, it's GOTY for sure. Sorry, Overwatch.

I really need to hurry up and finish Human Revolution before this comes out. Or maybe I'll just read the story online.

I wonder if square enix will issue an nx version....

I wonder if there'll be a Linux version. Wouldn't expect it, but we got Tomb Raider and it looks like Hitman is coming. In the meantime, I have it preordered for PS4. This is a game I'd happily double-dip on. Really hyped for this.

I felt that Deus Ex Human Revolution lacked a lot the variation and freedom that you could get with the OG Deus Ex, so I'm hoping they have been able to give the game more depth and options as seems to be suggested from some previews. I'd also like to see the games' narrative get more depth, such as the original delving into the philosophy behind the issues in a much more deeper way than was seen in any of the subsequent games.

After 5 years I just finished Human Revolution last night. lol Really enjoyed it but now I'm bummed out because I beat it and Mankind Divided is still 5 weeks away. :(

Gonna read through all these impressions now as DXMD is one of my most anticipated but I give props to Eidos Montreal for not giving out too many spoilers so far.

The environments and exploration seem really amazing, like the ideas planted by the first game taken to their logical conclusion.

The writing seems like the same mediocre stuff as Human Revolution, however. Like they thought it was cool to make every character really snarky and full of attitude, where they deliver witty one-liners to each other non-stop and pretty much every stranger's attitude is like "WHAT DO YOU WANT?"

But I'm still super excited for it.

I hope Malik doesn't turn up in this one.

If only so she won't forever serve as a permanent reminder of my inability to save her in the previous game. I didn't know that was even an option, game!

Oh yes! Deus Ex strikes back with those delicious previews and gets back on the GOTY race! Good Job, Eidos Montreal!

In the GB video he accidentally showed the menus when you're not supposed to so of course I took screenshots. You can craft gadgets/ammo this time around.

I was thinking about skipping this game for now even though I loved HR now I'm having second thoughts. Will depend on CSII release I guess.

Watched some of the Giant Bomb Quicklook. I like the setting, the freedom of choice, but man the action gameplay looks rough. To be honest, it looks like straight up trash. Janky, rigid, plagued with terrible AI and the CQC transitions/uses are hilarious.

Reading and watching all of this coverage makes me want to replay Human Revolution again for the 100th time just to fill that Deus Ex void until August.

Staying away from all footage, images and previews since the initial reveal gameplay from last year, but I'm extremely looking forward to this one. It's going to be awesome.

Have their been any videos or interviews where the devs reveal which ending they chose from Human Revolution to use going into Mankind Divided? I don't really understand why people with augs are being ridiculed in this new game. Is that something that happened in between games or do I need to go back and play HR again?

Wow, surprised to see the press so positive on this.

I loved Human Revolution and have full faith in Eidos to knock this one out of the park as well. Will be day 1.

Do you literally remember nothing about the end of that game

Millions of raving mad augmented zombies attacking everyone in sight
, not ringing any bells
