The longer the title, the better the game

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA - JANUARY 27, 2009 - Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today announced that Shin Megami Tensei®: Devil Summoner 2™: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon, a new chapter in the stunningly original action RPG series for PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, is making its way to North America on May 12th. Improved over its predecessor in every way, Devil Summoner 2 is an action RPG breath of fresh air, with a deep, easy-to-control combat system, nearly two hundred demons to negotiate with, collect, and fuse, and a variety of strategies to employ and master. Experience a 1920's Tokyo bustling with cases to solve, criminals to bring to justice, and the threat of the mysterious King Abaddon looming on the horizon.

For a limited time, and out of an exceptionally small fixed number of units, North American gamers will have even more reason to pick up the game that raced to the top of the Japanese game sales charts upon its release. Each and every launch copy of Devil Summoner 2 will feature a rare Raiho plushie doll (not available for sale separately). Only a small amount of these rare bundles will be assembled, and each package will be numbered to ensure its rarity and collectible value. Should there be future print runs of the game, they will ship without the Raiho collectible. Act before they're gone!

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon is scheduled to negotiate its way into retailers on May 12, 2009 with an MSRP of $39.99. Each and every copy of the game's limited quantity launch will ship with a rare Raiho collectible plushie.

Yup, that's the Raidou Jack Frost.

Looks like Raidou 2's getting announced soon. I guess we can expect "countdowns" like this for each US SMT from here on, since FES and P4 got them.

I was wondering what that was on my mailbox; thought it was sent accidentally or something P

I could tell it was jack frost, but Im not sure how you guys could tell it was Raidou :lol

Thats how the Jack Frost looked in Devil Summoner and it was pretty obvious they were going to announce it soon'ish.

The hat. Normal Jack Frost has a jester's cap.
Oh, I could tell that he wasn't wearing the right cap. I didn't see semblance to the JPN police uniform though (or wtv you call that.)

I do now, though, I missed something >.>

EDIT: Huh, I can also see the cape now.

What was the verdict on Raidou's second game?

Feedback on the japanese release seemed rather positive, if not immensely so. Raidou 2 apparently fixes all the issues with part 1, and then turns around and does even more cool stuff. There seems to be a little Nocturne mixed in as well, with more focus on demon negotiating.

Bah, who cares about Raidou 2, where's the announcement of Megami Ibunroku Devil Survivor?

Raidou 2 came out first in Japan, so that's why it gets announced first. I'm sure we'll see Devil Survivor later this year, maybe around summer depending on when Raidou 2 comes out (based on Atlus's current schedule, probably in April or May).

I guess there's not a chance in hell we'll get the Raidou'd SMT Nocturne, that would just be too much to localise. I shouldn't complain because we're getting Raidou II, which sounds like it's the step up needed from the previous one.

Lego SMT.

yeah i know that's not it, but it was kind of my first thought since i'd never think of chibi-smt.

I doubt it'd be too much to localize, just rather pointless since all he does is replace Dante.

As far as the Raidou Nocturne edition goes, I figure the only way we'll see that is if Nocturne becomes a PS2 Greatest Hit, since the rights to use Dante might have expired by now.

Still, who knows? I guess we'll have to wait for this announcement. I hope it comes sometime next week, since I figure they dropped this email on a Friday afternoon so we can speculate and hype it over the weekend.

The Raidou Nocturne re-release wouldn't be pointless. People who haven't played it could buy it, and I could buy it for collections sake.

Raidou replaces Dante so...what?

Welp...

Time to get in gear and finish up Raidou 1. Hopefully the save carry-over bonuses are pretty good.

As for Nocturne Chronicle Edition, it would be a pretty good excuse to run through Nocturne again. But I'm not expecting too much from its release. It's not like a P3 FES situation where the Japanese release had both a Append Version and Full Version to choose from. Well, unless Atlus decides to raise the price by $10-$20 to offset things. If that is the case.. well.. you'd better preorder.

Awesome. I still haven't gotten around to starting the Japanese version. :\

The plush Raiho is really cute, and it was actually larger than I was expecting. It'd be awesome if they brought it over here.

This is good news, especially since the general consensus is that the second game is much better than the first. I just hope you don't miss out on anything to big by not have a complete save file from the first game. I have absolutely no desire to finish that game.

PS2. You are the eternal challenger.

Never checked out the Devil Summoner series, but since I'm just about to wrap up P4, I want to be SMT'd some more. HURT ME MORE, SNAKE.

I don't remember everything that a save from Raidou 1 gets you, but the main thing is that any demon you recruited in part 1 will automatically rejoin you when you encounter them again in part 2. Kind of a good thing, unless it makes the game too easy. Still, demon negotiating can be annoying at times (especially in Persona 1), so it would certainly save time.

I haven't beaten Raidou 1 either, but I'm trying to get through it before this one comes out. It's fun, but the other PS2 SMT games are definitely better (in fact, the main reason I haven't beaten Raidou 1 yet is probably due to me wanting to play Nocturne again).

Yeah I just got that email and then came over to Gaf to participate in the thread and chime in with the WOOHOO's! Pretty easy call on the Devil Summoner 2 but man that Jack Frost in the detective getup sure would be a sweet pre-order bonus or make a good centerpiece for something like they did with the Social Link Expansion pack for Persona 4.

Thanks, Atlus!

Sweet, I made it to the 2nd to last chapter so I should be set then.
