you go ask them, they are clear in the video, Take your loss and be quiet.

there is always something up with the xbox crowd, game missing shit all over the place, parity with sony's system and it is suddenly pulling shit from your arse.

How many of the last comparisons has this been going on for, we had 4 or 5 games now and there is always something missing, some excuse, show me those 12 tflops not parity please,

Tools. That's all.

It quite baffles me how good performance the series s has with 1/3 of the power. Seems like that there is more juice to the more powerful series x.

There are serious issues with series x being underutilized since there are reports of low power usage of the 150-160 watt range in most 3rd party games. This might be an indication of low CU's utilization

Ugh... people keep bragging about better foilage and shadows, instead of being upset that the devs released an upscaled version of the XB1 and PS4 version of the game.... IDK what everyone is bragging or so happy about... we waited for an upscale patch essentially.
Yeah, this is getting overlooked.

This is a next gen version? Why isn't this just BC enhanced?

Looking forward to the game that puts lost tools in a game as an easter egg haha
If Sony fans can wait for basic functionality like an active SSD bay and VRR, Xbox fans can wait for improved development tools. Neither console is flawless.

It does appear to be upgraded BC which begs the question of the narrative when Cyberpunk comes out.

No it wasn't it was the same situation, as it is now.. same resolution same advantages... its the SAME GAMES AT 4K... they just upped the res and unlocked the frames to 60 or 120...

Advantage in this how?

Foliage issue is due to Gearbox porting One X version without changing anything. One X version has foliage issue which carry forward to SX and S but its not on PS4 and Pro and Pro has higher shadows than One X. So it proves Gearbox just brute forcing SX hardware power with no optimisation

Rest everything hardly different.

Several details, including the shadows were the same on both PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.

You're pulling advantages out of your ass. The lower details with BL3 were already an issue last gen, where the XOX was clearly the stronger performing machine compared to the PS4Pro. So ask Gearbox why they are too lazy to fix the issue.
So, One X performed better, had lower details. Was clearly the stronger console.

PS5 vs Series X, wouldn't logic say the Series X would clearly be the better performing console this time too? Despite what was said in the video/article, the video evidence says it's not. Its more parity than clearly.

Your post doesn't really help show the Series X in a better light.

Those saying ppl arguing over soft shadows and a patch of grass, please. This is exactly what many Xbox fanatics were expecting to do. Now they can't, and gotta hope they can find something to puff their chests out about.

Remember, Xbox fanatics ingrained, beat into ppl's heads that the PS5 was a weak, struggling, stumbling, bumbling into next gen mess.

So yeah, you reap what you sow......

This really does just look like the one x and ps4 pro games running in Bc mode but with a 60fps cap and higher max dynamic res. Gearbox so minimum effort is pretty expected these days unfortunately.

This is almost certainly the case and with the rare 1st party exceptions on the PS5 will continue to be so for most games for a short while...

Neither Sony or MS will ignore the millions of fans still on the OG Xbone and PS4

You're looking at bells and whistles right now hence why these comparisons are silly lol

No game is taking advantage of what this system offers yet, be it the lauded 12 TF, or any of the other high specs (the SeS is a whole other can of bees lol)

With the playstation 5 we can already see some of the advantages it has (like the SSD) because we've already seen exclusive PS5 games for it ala demon Souls go lightning fast...

The XSeX will get there too, patience people lol

There is a difference though. VRR and approved SSDs are coming, as confirmed by PS5.

There is no such definite reality for "Improved development tools". Development tools keep improving throughout the gen, right until the very last day. And that will happen for both consoles for years; it's an evolutionary process.

Didn't MS state they would work with developers to improve performance too though? You've already acknowledged development tools improve throughout a generation so unless you are saying MS will remain stagnant while Sony advances my point remains. Both of these consoles will see advancements and we'll see how much it changes as time goes on. Calling out MS' tools like Sony isn't missing critical functionality is pretty funny though. Glasshouses and all that.

Xbox fans want quality games like everyone who owns a console. It sucks when your version of a game is stuttering and crashing while other console games don't have those problems. Developers and gamers alike want a quality product.

Since when are things like VRR and active internal storage expansion "critical functionality"?

One would think that enabling developers to actually develop games to the best of their ability would be the most important thing to get sorted out prior to the launch of a console but apparently not...

So in reality for most gamers not much difference.

But loading is better on ps5, still too long and not fully utilising hardware yet.

Higher quality shadows on ps5 and higher foliage.

Equal performance in 60fps despite ps5 readings slightly higher as above.

Slight advantage on series x in 120 but only really in that scene, funny its used as the decider when its not even a total scene lock, there's are differences in camera etc and also fluctuations higher and lower on each but ok slight xbox advantage in that driving scene.

But not the mode itself.

Even in other scenes ps5 does better and this scene favours ps5 in 120 fps...

Can't really call a total win in that mode excluding vrr, that definitely is an advantage for those 52 people that have it.

But seems to me the performance is not clear cut and as said goes up and down on both yet he called it based on one such scene.... thats as daft as calling it a ps5 win in 120fps based on that indoor scene I posted.

Notice though rather than talk about ps5 advantage in that scene the talk over is praising xbox crucial advantage in having vrr. 🙄 Surely better to mention this consistent advantage for ps5 there like in the xbox scene but no....

Would like to see a vg tech numbers sheet.
It's much more convenient to choose a section where XSX has slight advantage in 120 FPS mode instead of vice versa apparently. It seems that Tom is as capable at hiding his bias as Alex, best continuations at the cost of credibility then.

1. VRR and expandable storage are in no way "critical" functionalities.
2. And I said that both APIs will improve with time -- it seems we agree on this point.

My only point is that because Sony's API will also improve, I don't think it's a valid argument by some fans to chalk the lack of XSX advantage completely to "tools". There is no evidence to suggest that XSX performance will increase by 40% (and PS5's remain stagnant at 0%), so XSX goes from -10% to +30%, giving it the pre-launch 30% advantage over PS5.

I don't see it happening. I think we will continue to see comparisons like these where both consoles trade blows and gaining very small advantages over each other in different games or modes. Except for UE5 games, where I think PS5 will get ahead.

Since the PS5 shipped with only 600GB of storage an active SSD bay was critical friend. VRR has already shown how it can considerably smooth out framerates in games. As Heisenberg007 Heisenberg007 already said "Development tools keep improving throughout the gen, right until the very last day. And that will happen for both consoles for years; it's an evolutionary process. " Sometimes you don't start with perfect dev tools but thankfully it gets better with time. Don't know why its a joke for MS now when people were completely content to wait for the PS3 to start outshining the X360.

We'll agree to disagree. You might never want an active SSD bay with only 600GB of space but PLENTY of people do. Some are right here on this forum. It should have been ready from the start. VRR too.

So if you hate graphics and flora go for Xbox for even more empty world and lack of foliage with worse shadows. XSX dropped to 81fps in their footage but they pressed hard to give some sort of one win out of all losses in this game modes and graphics.

It's getting boring winning on every game. But I'm being told...

Where are these performance percentage narratives coming from? I see them pop up quite often in Gaf threads. Is this a claim that MS have made?

I have 6 games installed and still have over 400gb left. Critical? No. Nice option to have? Yes.

Let me put it this way:
  • Percentage of users who have a VRR capable TV - small
  • Percentage of users who would spend $200+ to expand their internal storage at launch - even smaller
  • Percentage of users who are playing games at launch that have been developed using the consoles development tools - 100%
As for the PS3 comment I'm not even going to go there... That's not a point of comparison to be proud of if you truly believe that. People didn't wait - they jumped ship in droves.

No, it was mostly by Xbox fans and some gaming journalists -- solely based on the CU and Tflop difference. MS implied they were correct with their marketing of "most powerful console in the world" and "games [that PS5 just announced in their event] will play and look best on Xbox Series X."

Well that destroys another baseless narrative I'm seeing in this thread. That the Series X and PS5 are basically running the last gen versions but at higher res and framerate. This is simply not the case, if it were the Series X version wouldn't be missing details and having worse shadows compared to the PS5 version.

People need to face reality, right now the PS5 version is running the game at better settings with performance on par with the Series X version. Blame it on the Tools, blame it on Mark Cerny or blame it on the alcohol, the Series S is just not living up to the "eats monsters for breakfast" hype. I was told both consoles wouldn't be remotely close in performance before they launched, based on the on paper specs, and instead what we are seeing in real world performance is PS5 running multiplats better in most cases and sometimes with even better settings or higher resolution. Something weird is going on with the Series X hardware or PS5 is punching way above it's weight due to some factor people Sony isn't telling us (secret sauce?). Microsoft PR and Phil have some serious explaining to do.

Remember that the VRR feature has nothing to do with the performance of the game's graphics engine.

So citing it as an advantage is just dishonesty.
Very true. i roll my eyes when people act like because Series X has VRR it means it's handling the engine better than PS5. It's a feature that has nothing at all to do with the game's engine performance. It's also a feature that Sony has claimed will be getting patched into the PS5 very soon. What's going to happen when PS5 gets the feature? Are goal posts going to be moved again?

I didn't know what VRR was until I started switching it on and off. When it is off even at 110fps, you see the screen tear, when VRR is on you don't. It is a big feature and the sooner PS5 gets it the better.

It's a very useful feature; I'm not denying its importance at all. My only point is that a very, very small percentage of people can actually be benefited from it as of now. Besides, PS5 is expected to get it in the next 3 months or so.

No, there is less foliage, but more barrels, my console wins :messenger_sunglasses::messenger_grinning_smiling:
I'm joking but seriously, so many big debates for so few differences hahaha :messenger_tears_of_joy:
First time we have new generation of consoles which really offer so similar performance, incredible. Never in the past we had such situation where we were counting the number of grass tufts and trees to differentiate the result. :messenger_beaming:

What settings are the PS5/XSX versions running at? Mix of high and medium? Does anyone know what the specific settings are so we can compare to a pc build?

Agreed.

They're out position in real world performance and price (399 vs 499).

Actually, yes, not so much people can benefit from the VRR. But these consoles will be on the market during many, and most of TV manufacturers will include the HDMI 2.1, so VRR. The cost to include this functionnality has started to decrease with Samsung and LG which include it in many of their TV. I really hope that Sony will include it as planned because it is a very good things for gamers.

So auto HDR isn’t an advantage either? I swear the mental gymnastics some of you go through in the name of a plastic box are just next level.

So you wouldn’t cite the dual sense controller as an advantage then, right?

You and Sony can say it’s coming all you want, but why wasn’t it there day 1? Why isn’t it there now? How long have they been making this console for? Can’t have a basic hdmi2.1 standard feature implemented after years of development? Seems weird.

It's weird that you never seems to ask yourself the same questions about games.
As for the Hdmi 2.1 features Sony always wait until certifications are complete to implement it (it helps avoiding the bugs that XSX currently have)it's exactly what they did when they enabled HDR on all ps4 models.

What happened with the OP to get himself a perma ban? It only says it’s “requested”. Does that means that someone asked him to be banned and that’s it? In the gaming community always seemed a fair lad. Is this about the off topic pit?

It does not matter if xsx its the better choice for 120fps, if the PS5 version has one tiny little bit advantage the sony fanboys automatically says its thr best version

Xbox won this one, like for like framerate is slightly higher in comparable cutscenes. With about 10 frames per second. On a console of 2 teraflops higher count. In 120fps mode. 95% of players will play this in 60fps and have no idea any differences exist.

This went exactly as I though it would. It's 360 vs PS3 all over again. It's going to be thelastword praising PS5 and Riky praisin Series X (with MrFunSocks giving thumbs up to his posts) and both sides claiming victory. We're looking at insanely small differences while the consoles trade punches. Exclusives will shine. Just buy the console where your friends play or where your previous ecosystem was.
