the fact that this next gen update is not free is a joke. barely any actual visual upgrades, just a tiny bump in resolution from 1800cb to 2160cb and a tiny handful of slightly higher res textures.

compare this to Doom Eternal that got better textures, better effects, RayTracing, 120fps mode etc.

almost... no, basically every other game that got a similar or sightly more elaborate upgrade got that upgrade for free.

It has better textures and they did the lip sync stuff, cutscenes are real time now.
There's haptics and stuff on the controller.
We literally had a list of shit the PS5 version has for over a month, how are people surprised about this?

Dynamic 4K resolution targeting 60fps
DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive trigger resistance
3D audio with stereo headphones (analogue or USB)
Lip sync for Japanese voiceover
Ability to transfer PS4 saved progress to PS5 game

You’re paying for the DLC, lip sync and Dualsense implementation, the 1800P 60fps upgrade is free for anyone owning the PS4 game.

That said, they should’ve added more, like improved draw distance and stuff.

I think 01011001 01011001 is referring to the straight PS4 to Native PS5 upgrade without the DLC being $10

Honestly if I wasnt getting the DLC I wouldn't have rewarded them $10 for lip sync and haptics since it was running so well in BC mode already

Interestingly the PS4 Pro version runs at 1800p checkerboard, and got drops to 25FPS in photo mode. The PS5 version runs at a 2160p checkerboard and holds a stable 60FPS in photo mode. Roughly a minimum of 3.45x increase in performance right there for a native PS5 game, despite the PS5 only having 2.45x as many TFLOPs as the PS4 Pro. RDNA2 IPC improvement is quite nice, this shows at least a 40% improvement in IPC when comparing the GPUs.

-Two graphic modes: frame-rate and resolution.
-Checkerboard rendering in both modes with 60fps.
-Framerate mode in 1800p CB.
-Resolution mode in 2160p CB.
-Possibility of dynamic resolution even if in the tests it seems to be a fixed resolution.
-60fps locked on both modes.
-Display distance is the same as before.
-Improvement of some textures.
-Loadings much faster (now instantaneous) compared to the version running on PS4 BC.
-The cinematics that were in pre-rendering on PS4 now run in real time on PS5 at 30fps instead of 60fps.
-The game exploits well the 3D audio + Dualsense features.
-DF regret that this kind of upgrade is paid when it's free at other studios.

Those two are the issue, if they were free I guarantee absolutely not a single person on Earth would ever complain, but DS support is basically putting the console's marketed features behind a paywall.
But the post I commented on was complaining about the lack of visual upgrades.

The Dualsense implementation in this seems to be pretty good from what I read in impressions, sure they could’ve gotten some goodwill by giving it away for free but its fairly reasonable that they charge $10 extra for that and some other optimisations IMO.

as we know now the res is 2160cb which is a verzy small upgrade from 1800cb. and aside from the lipsync theres no other real benefit. the cutscenes being real time doesn't have an real value to the end user.

and you only get the DLC for an additional 20 bucks, the PS5 upgrade without DLC is 10€/$

Defending the $10 upgrade?

Oh.. no, local Saves /s

3d Audio is just a gimmick word. Every game basically supports it.

Checkerboard 4k at 60fps? it's free on competitors platform

Is the PS5 version stuff worth £9 to you?
Yes: Buy it!
No: Don't buy it!
It's that simple.

Exactly and the ps4 version playing through ps5 is checkerboard 4k at 60fps , this £10 update is a quick cash grab by sony as they got nothing else for the ps5 out on the market, if loads buy this £10 upgrade then watch out as sony will flood the market with dual sense and 3d audio updates at ££, i dont mind paying for updates but only if it adds something substantial to the game like better ultra high textures and hdr etc

Just to recap and cash in the receipts so that we can maybe heal some of the drama on here. What critics were pointing out turned out to be largely correct.
  • A solid expansion to a beloved game is launching today. This should be an easy win for Sony, an A+ day.
  • The PS5 upgrade is very minimal, and is a lot less than other free upgrades we've gotten regularly from first and third party publishers.
The people that just tried to point out that this $10 charge is not great for the consumer were correct. Really everyone should have just been in agreement on that point, regardless if you like the game or not. We're discussing the PS5 upgrade path exclusively, which could represent the path forward on other upcoming first party titles.

Just a Question:

Why have two modes when both of them run @ 60fps and have no visual difference than resolution?

Maybe they should've charged for the multiplayer mode and given us the ps5 features for free.

Something's got to give, right? Cause I think devs should be compensated for their work

So the content (new area & missions) is 20 bucks and the "upgrade" is 10 bucks ?

I got no problem with the devs charging 20 bucks for extra content - although in this case I would probably not buy it. But charging 10 bucks for some shitty upgrades is not cool. Imagine charging 10 bucks on PC so you can move the slider to 2560p instead of 1440p ... fuck off

The whole thing is a cash grab. Usually you just make a few DLCs and then at the end something like a GOTY. Sony instantly makes a pleaseant-sounding Director's Cut for 80 Euro out of the first DLC and people will rather buy this than a used PS4 copy that they can upgrade for much less. People are lazy and Sony knows it. I bet some people don't even know they can upgrade and think it's a new game. Sony also knows that probably most people will pay the 10 bucks and if enough PS5 owners go for it, expect it for every patched game from now on.

We've already gotten a bunch of free patches lol this one is coming with content that is made specifically for the PS5 there is a difference. Hell they already patched this game for free.

I said it looked identical and got ripped in the trailer thread.

Sony are embarrassing with this shit. This should be free.

It’s a moot point to me because you are not forced to buy the upgrade. How much you want it depends on how important better res/textures/FPS/loading, DualSense/3D audio implementation and Japanese lip-synch is to you. When I type it, it seems like a fair bit of work.

Maybe now people will acknowledge that this is the true 2020 GOTY.
You are in the wrong thread, there you go:
