[DF] MLB The Show 21 - PlayStation Studios' First Multi-Plat Game - PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S, Pro vs One X!

It's not surprising the game performs worse on Xbox platforms, given it's the studio's first. What is surprising is for a game with such visual you'd expect it to lock at 4K 120 FPS on both next gen consoles, and yet ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

During cutscenes. FIFa locks it to 30 in cutscenes.

But X owners got huge advantage of playing it for free :p
Me: GamePass isn't sustainable in its current format.
Xboys: Nope, GamePass generates tons of money.

A big game is announced as coming to GamePass
Xboys: GamePass is free/$1a month 😄.

In all seriousness San Diego studio deserve respect for the work they've done with the franchise the past few years, and ultimately they're more familiar with the PS5 hardware advantages than vice versa.

Did you not watch the comparison 🤔

Now you are lying by saying you are playing it for free.🙄
Ya i watched it and its optimisation issue. Its a known fact, new set of GDK arrived late to devs. Most use XDK still for optimisation which contains mostly Xbox one tool set. MLB not using any RDNA features, just straight port of PS5 version.
PS5 is lead platform. You all know it very well but you still just posting nonsense.

PS5 was ahead in this department plus its made by Sony studios.

A game which proves that Sony and its playstation 5 is truly a system based on a last generation Technology.
And only proves what I have been saying for a long time now that Sony is selling you old technology with a few new parts.
It's a old code base Running on a new technology, Xbox 1. PS4 , PS4 pro, X1X and PS5 are all GCN based that perform in that order, and the 1 ture next-gen architecture is still running in last Gen mode.
Right now we are in a cross Gen. Game situation where most of the games are built using old technology old coding paths of GCN. Where Sony and its playstation 5 Fits in perfectly due to its old Gcn hardware.

See below an accurate image of this person.

XSX lost no matter how we spin it.
Don't like people talking about it?
Don't be in the threads.

While true, like its been pointed out it runs better on the One X vs the Pro...so.....

🤷‍♂️

Their first shot at multi platform they nail it with last gen consoles but are struggling with the next gen ones?

One X shows its true strengths but for next gen they drop the ball?

Maybe, just maybe....like its been stated for months, probably the last 2 years....

"these next gen consoles are closer than any consoles have ever been"

“Digital Foundry editor Richard Leadbetter said he believes the last-gen performance suggests Sony gave its first Xbox ports “a good shot” and speculated that performance differences could be due to Sony’s engine and tools.

“Let’s remember that this is a PlayStation Studios title and what is presumably their first stab at a multi-platform release,” he wrote. “All versions run with an unlocked frame-rate, capped only by v-sync at 60fps. Actual in-game action runs nigh-on locked at 60fps on PlayStation 5, and it’s much the same on Series X – just a little less stable...

...“Remember, its engine was developed on PlayStation hardware and when it comes to Series consoles, we’re still very early on in the generation – and development tools are immature, especially on the Microsoft side.”

So we’re back to the discussion of Microsoft’s development tools being “immature”, presumably because they’re being updated for (among other things) seamless PC to XBox (and vice versa) conversion.

If the difference in this gen is this negligible so far and Microsoft hasn’t got their tools in place (and Sony presumably has), then this suggests much more of a potential upside left on the table for XSX development.

Regardless, it’s great that the game is available on both platforms now, and the more people with access to the title the better, even if it’s a little under baked.

It's the studios 1st PS5 game as well.🤷

And yet there are still debates about 'but its their first shot at multi platform.'

If its based on old code...usually MS has an advantage in that. And so far that shows with the last gen versions.

The next gen version of every game so far as always been close with either console having an advantage in different spots. With the PS5 usually surprising certain folks when its PS5 overall with the advantage.

Once again, their first shot at multi platform. They get it with last gen versions.
Next gen versions, there is a conspiracy afoot! Time to crack the case....

Like every generation before.

There may be more upside for XSX, but those expecting a wild swing in this direction for performance are setting themselves up for disappointment.

If some folks could just live with" this is the closest 2 consoles have ever been" it should give some ppl peace.

Its the first ps5 game but we know that the pa5 uses an sdk that is based on the ps4 sdk. Basically, Sony first party making their first zboz game. I'm sure next years will be a lot better. Seems like they struggled with this year's release on both content and performance. It's like the first fifa release on the ps4, or was it the 360 ps3 one. It was proper shit. Looked awful and ran like poop. Then a year later it was a lot better.

PS5 games usually have better performance than XSX games.

Hopefully when they get more familiar with both machines things will tighten up but I still expect the PS5 version to perform better than as well.

Will you admit or say that you are wrong and im right?

So, No dev will ever admit that they optimised game poorly. Frame dropping in cutscenes on more powerful system like SX is a clear proof.

But that's not clear proof of optimization issues since each system has their own set of advantages over the other.

That's an interesting way of looking at things, lol. Because the frames drop on PS5 also. It just drops more on XSX.

Find some peace with all this, its there. Its not hard to find....

So...using this logic, they didnt optimize poorly with the last gen versions, correct? Because the One X has the frame rate advantage.
Its only with the next gen version where something went wrong.....

I think I saw this touched on earlier in this thread but lets say they didn't optimize anything at all.

If the last gen version is showing the advantages of the specs, why couldnt we also say the same about the next gen version?

...its a Sony studio first shot at multi platform development.....and they get it right with the last gen versions (One X has the advantage)....but something went wrong with the next gen version.....

Usually AFAIK, when a next gen version is only running last gen code, that shows where the XSX has a clear advantage. Thats not happening in this case.

Whats happening now isnt a new thing. There have been plenty of examples of frame rates being better on PS5 for next gen versions of games.

Why does it seem like another example where some ppl are reverting back to pre launch mindsets....

OR.... The inefficiencies in the xbox port are covered by the much wider disparity in performance between the PS4 Pro and the 1X. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I'm sure if this got ported to PC, no matter how inefficient the port, there would be a point where the PC could overcome those issues with brute force performance. It's unbelievable we've got 7 pages regarding a game built by a first-party studio performing better on the home turf.

Damn, Disappointed with the Series S performance. I wonder if that is the first sign that developers cannot be bothered optimising for it.

The XOX has a 50%+ GPU advantage.

XSX has like 10%. Both are underperforming

The last installment of The Show I purchased was in 2016, and to no surprise, this game still looks like shit. It's twenty-fucking-twenty one, and the character models still have issues with uniforms clipping, janky ass animations, shit-tier textures (holy fuck did you see those grass textures?), and countless other things that may have been acceptable for the PS3, but not even the PS4, let alone the PS5.

Good grief, MLB needs to drop this studio and unironically bring EA back with its MVP series. Yes, EA. I said it.

Just because a game runs worse or has more frame drops on the XSX, that doesn't mean its due to poor optimizations.

That COULD be one of the reasons why, but you guys seem to ignore that all engines are build differently and it's not all about teraflops.

Both consoles has its advantages as stated by developers.

Define "free"
I won't speak for others or for this Gamepass thing, but here is my definition of free in general:

I live in a rented house. I pay the rent on the first of every month, and I basically live free in that home for the rest of the month! Can you beleive that?! It's such an amazing deal, all thanks to my kind-hearted landlord. /s

Yeah I mean we see this happen even with multiplatform devs where the main platform gets more love and the engine is better tailored and optimized for the system.

The only surprising thing here is that the versions are so close. Imagine how easy it would be to drop the res or framerate or graphics simply because you can and it’s a competitor. As I said before, Sony set the bar high for first or better titles here, Microsoft will have to go as close for their first or better Bethesda titles or it’ll be awfully obvious why there are differences.

The game was built for a narrow 20 CU profile (PS4). This means it won't scale as well on a XSX. I think this is also generally the reason why PS5 seems to be punching above its weight in cross gen games (not all of them of course).

While parallellism is the future .. let’s wait and see how this all unfolds the years ahead.

PS5 > XSX, XSX = bad SW tools .. will SURELY improve.

SX dev kits different from One X. Most devs use XDK without using new features of RDNA.

PS5 tool being more simpler and was available much early than SX and San Diego being first party has better knowledge of PS5 hardware.

There are issues with SX version of games no doubt but this narrative by fanboys that its weak system is stupid. Tell me what RDNA features MLB is using? Nothing. SX version is badly optimised port.

If you dont get proper optimised drivers for gpu then your gpu will not perform to full potential. Same case here

Agreed. The Series S only has 20 CU’s so it can punch above it’s weight.
