DF: More Wii U Ports Heading To Switch! Is This A Good Thing?

Yes. I want to get bayonetta, and I would rebut wonderful 101 again. Bring back Pikmin 3 along with the first two and Nintendo land!

The wii u had a great library that everyone should experience

Metroid Prime Trilogy HD, Zelda OOT & MM HD, Twilight Princess HD port, Mario 3D World Port, Tropical Freeze Port, and last but not least Xenoblade X port.

I'm not opposed to Wii U ports at all, since I would buy many of them just on the basis of having portable versions of the games. But all this talk about good games on the Wii U being "lost" is silly. If you wanted to play those games, you should have bought a Wii U. You can still buy a Wii U right now and play them. Yes, many of the best games on the Wii U probably deserve a second chance, but the games that ultimately don't get ported aren't lost to the ages or anything, goddamn.

There are some games that need to be changed if theyre getting ported to Switch so i dont expect many more after Pokken.

Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, Star Fox Zero, Color Splash, Mario Party 10 and Game&Wario are a few examples.

Granted i dont know a single fucking person asking for games like MP10 but yeah.

CEMU will save the Wii U library by the way so loss to time is irrelevant.

I hope Bayo 1 and 2 (or at least just Bayo 2) get ported to Switch-- wouldn't mind getting rid of my Wii U and that might be enough for me to sell it off.

The Wii U has some amazing games that don't deserve to die buried alongside it.

TMS, Xenoblade X, DKC Tropical Freeze, Captain Toad, Pikmin 3, Bayonetta 2, TW101, Smash 4 and many others come to mind. I'd double-dip on all of them on Switch, given the chance.

I'll finally finish TMS if we got some Switch love!

Port begging was a term created here to prevent thread deralis.

Nothing wrong with making a case to port 1st party games to another system made by the same console maker.

Come on, guys lol. Don't be silly.

They're not asking for PC ports of Nintendo games. This is perfectly reasonable thesis and not to be sullied with silly port begging retorts. That makes no sense.

I mean, I think he might not be entirely wrong...

Let's be honest, games like Bayonetta 2 and Wonderful 101 would of done better on other consoles but not that better, I think. The first Bayo was on two consoles people actually owned (360/PS3) and it only sold a little over a million, which was a sales disappointment to SEGA.

The difference being the cost of buying Bayonetta 2 on a console you already own (like a switch if it's sales numbers are to be believed) and having to shell out the already too high hardware costs in order to play bayonetta 2.

If the WiiU wasn't so mishandled, these games wouldn't have been intrusively gated by a 299 price tag. Porting them to the switch, a console that will absolutely sell better and has a wider appeal, is a no brainer.

But real talk, people saying these games would have bombed regardless are straight up silly. We're talking about Mario games, Zelda games, Pikmin games, Smash brothers. MK8DX's success should be more than indictive that all of these games, including lesser known ones like W101 have more than a fighting chance on the Switch.

I remember when there was a time when people here told me I was a foolish for not hopping on the Wii U when I said that waiting on Switch would be a much better be for me. This was based on my belief that it would be a far superior console and be seeing a lot of great ports/VC games anyways.

It feels good man.

(Also one reason why I not want to jump on it was my current backlog, which consists of long GOTY type RPGs such as Witcher 3 and Bloodborne).

There is a new twitter account from Platinum showing pictures for those games.

They are showing some artwork which could be considered teases. Especially the W101 artwork with the characters playing TW101 with joycons.

But all of those are just teases, there is nothing officially announced yet. And Platinum (read: Kamiya) is kinda known for teasing fans.

There is a new twitter account from Platinum showing pictures for those games.

To be clear, Platinum did a retrospective art series by their artists, celebrating their various past games. The W101 art had a Switch in it so some people think that's a hint. Nothing is announced.

Digital Foundry is speculating about Switch versions being in the works based on that but they have no inside knowledge. The thread title should probably be updated to reflect that and it was probably a mistake on their part to put an exclamation mark in the video name.

No!! People think they can just hop on Nintendo when its convenient for them when they're doing good!! They weren't there for the rough times, Its disgusting!

People born after the Wii U who want to play Mario Maker in 10 years? Fuck you, should've been born sooner!

Yes. As long as 3D World makes it....I really dont want to buy a Wii U just to play it....

You're not missing much. Galaxy and NSMBU were far superior.

How is this a question? Of course it's good. The WiiU was a collosal failure. Porting these games to the Switch takes fewer resources than new games, can be shifted to smaller teams for good experience, allows a bigger market to experience the games, etc.

The only people who would say no are pouty WiiU owners trying to justify their purchases.

I'm interested in the games I didn't pick on Wii U for x reasons to be ported over. Tokyo Mirage Sessions released during Wii U's last six months and bombed hard. A quick port with a resolution upgrade to 1080p would be more than enough for me to pick up. Plus it's a JRPG and these are always better on a portable system.

I didn't buy Mario Kart 8 because I felt like I played it enough on Wii U to not warrant another purchase on Switch, especially since it looked already good enough on Wii U. I'm glad Pokkén DX is coming, because that was one of the key title to port over to Switch. I bought it and still liked it last year but there was a lot to improve. Resolution was sub-HD and local play locked to 30fps for some dumb reasons tied to the hardware. Now that it's coming to Switch with a proper resolution and 60fps local play, I'll be able to enjoy it again. And since Pokkén never had a price drop, I can resell my Wii U version for half the price I bought it a year ago.

Another title that should be ported is Paper Mario Color Splash. I know it wasn't received very well, but the visuals look stunning and nobody bought it since it released way too late. I heard that it had some framerate issues, so a 1080p port with a locked framerate should do wonders.

Why not just buy a Wii U if you so desperately want to play these games?...

Good luck finding a new one.

Also knowing what we know now, why wouldn't you just wait for the port? The WiiU is dead, support for it is dead, but these games can have a new lease on life for very little cost to the developers and publishers. There's literally no reason to not port these games over.

The ones I want most, Mario 3D world and the Zelda remasters, will probably take the longest what with Maro Odyseey and BotW being available.

I've never been more open to ports than I am with Wii U to Switch.

The circumstances (poor sales on Wii U, ease of playing games on Switch) all line up in a way they never have with most other platform jumps. Usually when I see a port I'm pretty ambivalent, but I would actively be excited about most Wii u games getting another chance on Switch.

It's not for me who bought every major Wii U game releases, but I guess those will be new games for the millions who never ever heard of that console.

If you have an entire year where you released more ports than new releases, than it's a problem.

Nintendo doesn't have to be like Capcom.

Edit: I'm not saying Nintendo is currently doing this.

I have no problem with updates ports for games that I didn’t have a chance to play on my Wii U that I barely had. I’m down for some mobile beyonetta,W101,and I want a smash deluxe edition.

Bayo2 would have done slightly better probably, but I doubt TW101 would have done much better. Even with the bad Wii U install base, the demo for that game was mostly on the Wii U as can be seen with sales of the lego games and rayman selling better on the Wii U. Yes I know they are vastly different style games, but I still feel the look of the game is what held it back more than anything else, followed by the hard learning curve.

It's great that people will get to ignore them all over again.

Half the games bombing had absolutely nothing to do with the install base.
Most of the games actually performed well in spite of the install base, only a few the titles in the Wii U library could be considered bombs. Basically just W101, TMS, and Devil's Third were bombs, and only Devil's Third was a bad game.
