DF: More Wii U Ports Heading To Switch! Is This A Good Thing?

Now that I have my Switch, I can say I wouldn't be opposed to double dipping for some Wii U ports. I've already bought MK8D and will be getting Pokken Tournament Deluxe day 1 (though, to be fair, I got the original Pokken a mere month before I decided to part ways with my Wii U).

Like others, I'd like to see Bayo 2 (don't really care about 1 again at this point, especially since I have it on PC these days), W101, and, hopefully, a definitive version of Hyrule Warriors. The version of Hyrule Warriors they ported over to 3DS really stunk. It was playable, barely, but was so stripped down compared to the Wii U version that it was a poor alternative to the original.

Yeah Hyrule Warriors often gets overlooked in these discussions but I absolutely agree. I played the hell out of the Wii U version but never got to play all the extra content that came to the 3DS version because it just wasn't a good platform for that game. It seems like a no-brainer for a definitive version on Switch, especially considering KT seems to like porting their games.

Nah, I'm still sticking with my WiiU. Beside do you know how many double dipping if all great game go to the switch? Zelda, Pikmin, Mario, DKTF, XCX, TMS, Devil Third, Captain Toad, Yoshi, W101, Mario Maker, Lego, NG3RE etc
If Nintendo want to go that route atleast make it digital

Another Super Mario Maker with a stylus just makes so much sense. I dont care if it limits functionality just to portable mode. And Smash should've been announced at E3. More than any other game, this one made the most sense to be ported over. Even more than MK8D.

I have to say that if the switch gets ports from Nintendos portable systems
I would consider this console a must buy.

No joke
the 3DS/2DS/DS/ has some of the best games

All the best castlevanias
The new legend of zelda link to the past sequel
the upcoming Metroid game,ect.

I'll definitely double-dip on more evergreen content like Smash or Mario Maker. Not so much on single-player campaigns, but I won't begrudge their existence. If they boost system sales and help fund New titles, I'm all for them.

Besides, Mario Kart being a Deluxe Edition freed up that team to make ARMS.

More games is rarely a bad thing. This can only help by keeping interest hard on the switch with frequent retail releases even if they are upgraded or straight ports.

Do them all Nintendo.

I'd say its probably best to just move on. Splatoon 2 is shaping up to be a better game than its predecessor and was built with the Switch's capabilities in mind to boot.

Ditto Smash. Getting the Ice Climbers back and new characters and stages would be a whole lot better than just playing the Wii U game again. Likewise a Mario Maker 2 with more content, themes and assets.

I rarely play remasters and ports. New consoles should get new games. As a Wii U owner there is still no reason for me to buy a Switch. Xenoblade 3 might win me over but I need more than one good argument to invest around 400€. The Switch seems especially bad when it comes down to ports/remasters. It feels like there are more of them than actually new games.

Yes, it's a good thing. The Wii U had some great games, but barely anyone owned it in the grand scheme of things. No reason to not give these games another chance on a platform that people actually like.

It's extremely unlikely that these ports are happening at the expense of new projects.

If you ignore Arms, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey, Fire Emblem Warriors, Fifa 17, and some other games I don't remember, then, sure, it more ports/remastered than new games. I mean, a new console having a lot of ports/remastered at first is just standard these days but, even on the PS4/XB1/Wii U, it wasn't more than the number of new games

If Xenoblade 2 is the only game that interests you that's either released, coming soon, or announced then I'd say you're probably not ever going to buy one.

I certainly will. I am sure there will be a new Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Mario Kart, 2D Mario, Smash Bros, Pokemon and/or the one or other cool surprise game in the future. Metroid Prime 4 also interests me. Fire Emblem Warriors looks good but honestly there are like a dozen Warriors games on PS4 already. Not really a reason for a new console. Right now the lineup isn't good enough for me personally. And yeah I really don't care for ARMS and Splatoon at all. Mario Odyssey might be fun but I am not a fan of the 3D Marios. I will get this when I get a Switch but it's not a reason to buy the console.

So, been thinking about this whilst at work today, how I would love to see it go down is Nintendo change the VC to Nintendo Classics Collection (to match the branding with the NES and SNES minis)

Have N.E.R.D work on bringing NES, SNES, N64, GB, GBC and GBA games. With GC, Wii, 3DS games, give them the HD remaster treatment, add some online features and fix and gameplay issues. Wii U games bring them over as deluxe versions like MK8 and add more content to each release.

Get 3rd parties on board and assist with bringing some classics like Viewtiful Joe and Super Monkey Ball to Switch

No hidden gem left on wiiu.

Also Dreamcast and gamecube virtual consoles please. No need to remake it like the dude said.
Switch will never get NintendoLand. Ever.

My point was that stuff like Pokemon and Metroid Prime 4 have already been announced. You made it seem like it wouldn't make sense to buy it for XC2 alone, which I would agree with, but we already know other stuff is coming.

Considering that some games get hard to find, I think it's especially important to keep re-releasing these days. I'm tired of the stress of "buy it now or risk missing out forever." Digital downloads make this somewhat less an issue, but this just makes it all the easier. Plus, if they can up the resolution a bit, that's always nice.

I honestly don't mind as long as they keep putting out new games as well (which they are) and aren't just relying on ports. I think it would even be pretty cool to see some 3DS stuff get ported over, it would be nice to see Luigi's Mansion 2 in 1080p with some good AA.

1080p Codename STEAM *_* that game needs a second chance, let it have it on The Switch

It's a great move. I need 5 or 6 games I want before I'd be willing to buy a Switch. Having Wii U titles supplement the normal catalog will help it get there much sooner.

At the moment, I see maybe 3 Switch titles I'd want. If they can bring 3 Wii U ports I'd be interested in (e.g., Bayonetta 1 + 2, Xenoblade X, maybe Wind Waker HD), it'll tip it over the edge, and I'd make a purchase. It's all about building that library up.

If one released port/remaster and one more announced unreleased port/remaster feels like more than all the new games then I don't know what to tell you.

I made a good buck two days ago on my Wii U and some games. I was just done with it, everything from the reliance of the gamepad to access OS features, to how clunky the whole thing felt. The Switch is such an elegantly designed, unobtrusive piece of hardware that blends perfectly in my entertainment unit, I really never gave too much thought to the hardware before when playing games, till now. The experience just feels so much better.

So as far as I'm concerned, they can port over every game of note at their convenience.
