Seriously? A really lame move from 20th Century Fox...

That's a really classless move by them.

Yeah, the X-Men are even facing the same wrong direction.

It's horrible when this happens. There's even the possibility that the artist who designed the DOFP DVD cover thought he came up with the idea himself; inspiration can be weird like that.

Hopefully compensation and accreditation comes quickly.

This really shows how awful those DOFP sentinels are.

Now look at Manev's art. Imagine an X-Men movie that actually, you know, used mood and darkness and cared about creating compelling imagery. Imagine the silhouette of these things looming over you with their searchlights, very much like Spielberg's War of the Worlds.

I'm dumb and know nothing about filmmaking, so why don't these directors realize something so obvious?

What?
In the art the Xmen are facing us. In the bluray they're facing the sentinals

I believe that is his original art

Ah so it's a random artist not affiliated with the comics? That is pretty damning

While it looks cool those gigantic sentinels never made all that much sense to me. Seems like it would bring more problems with it then benefits

Marko Manev has worked for Marvel so do we know this is really personal work?

If it was work for Marvel, then they own the copyright on it. If not, then it was unlicensed.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to add a small (after Marko Manev) credit at the bottom of the image.

Fox has rights over all xmen stuff so too bad Marko whatever but maybe you should have read the contract before making xmen art!

I seem to recall some earlier controversy wherein Manev's Prometheus print for Mondo was similarly inspired by a Bradstreet image.

You can sue the owner of an IP for your devianart?

That would be hilarious. I hope he wins

I believe in a case like this, the artist can own the right to the specific arrangement of elements, even if he doesn't own the elements themselves. I don't think using licensed characters completely surrenders all rights to the entire design over to the folks who own the licensed characters. It does limit what the artist can do with the work, though. I'm no lawyer so I could be way off.

I don't think he will sue. He would lose. It's just a classless move from fox who didn't need to do it.

I think he should honestly just be flattered. He is getting more exposure to his work as a result, so he is benefiting from this whether or not he admits it.

Also, no one at fox or otherwise will care.
