Personally, I hope more people in the industry call out Sony for this. Internet outrage isnt enough. The execs have hidden behind the Sony's own Blogs instead of talking to the media. Since the media cant question execs, they need to continue to bring up not only how Sony hid this until now, but also question them on how this cross gen stance will hold back so many of these games.

Any serious interrogation of this would require games journalists to actually be journalists, rather than social media figures who are terrified of getting on the wrong side of games companies because it could ruin their click rates.

I think Digital Foundry gets overly focused on, specifically their analysis that 99% of people wouldn't notice yet brag about their version being better lol. That being said it's very obvious Digital Foundry would be the ones who hate cross gen the most, all they care about is the technical aspects of a game. Even as an Xbox primary fan, I care way more about the negative of the games being crossplay than I do about Sony's slightly deceiving way of announcing it. The people who have already bought a PS5 are the ones who were going to anyway, I doubt very many people only bought a PS5 because they thought Horizon or God of War would only be on it, considering those games are still several months away from release (more so for God of War obviously). For the people who did I sympathize but I just don't think it's a sizable amount of people (maybe I'm completely wrong as I have no statistics, but just my guess)

The thing is that outrage won't work here. The games have been planned as PS4 games since the beginning, and they certainly won't change their scope now, when they're probably at least 2 years into development.

what was the point of hiding it? The game was revealed during a PS5 event to hype it up as a next gen GoW experience. At least with with MS we know the games are cross gen because that’s how Xbox works. There’s no reason why Sony should be secretive about this.

Yep. He brought up Spiderman multiple times and they even allowed an internal presentation to leak that showed the amazing potential of the SSD streaming in Spiderman way back after the first wired article. They misled the public from the very beginning starting from 2019.

Now Cory is like BLAME ME. I made the call. Ok, Fine I will blame you. now go and answer some questions to the media because he certainly isnt answering them on twitter. Is GoW being held back? if so, how? Why should we buy a game for a $10 price increase on a new $500 even though its held back?

You're missing the point; it's not about Sony not having any 1P or partnered 3P PS5 exclusives, it's about how the media are basically handling their messy messaging WRT cross-gen for their biggest 1P games (which most assumed would be PS5-only) now confirmed as coming to PS4, and only now conveniently deciding cross-gen support is a good and even necessary thing.

Yet when Microsoft outright said they were doing cross-gen support (and now, some of those games might not even come to XBO), a lot of the same media types eviscerated them to Hell and back for supporting older platforms. This was also when even games like Miles Morales were assumed to be PS5-only (until Insomniac mentioned PS4 on their Twitter). Sony basically played right into the narrative and let the media and gamers think FOR MONTHS that the last 1P Sony game on PS4 would be Ghosts of Tsushima, even when they knew behind-the-scenes Miles Morales (and other games like GT7, which were presented as PS5-only even tho a Spanish retailer leak had the PS4 version listed back in spring of last year) was going to be cross-gen.

It's the double standard in the media's treatment towards Microsoft vs. Sony for essentially both being very strong on cross-gen 1P support that Digital Foundry are calling out, and it's 100% warranted. Personally, I never had too big an issue with cross-gen, but I do think the media sites that attacked Microsoft last year should issue some type of apology and be cool with cross-gen 1P support regardless of which platform holder is doing it.

Here's the thing, people mad at cross-gen (me included for both Xbox and Playstation), aren't complaining the games won't look good. Cross-gen games will always "look" very good, the issue is things like AI/Physics and other CPU heavy stuff, as well as fundamentally changing game design by using an SSD vs a HDD. The game will be a very pretty very good game, but it will be limited by what the PS4 is able to do and personally I don't like that

Do you understand the basic concept of consumer base?
Covid caused component shortages, people are having trouble getting consoles after launch (I've preordered mine).

They need the sales to have the investment back and the games were developed with PS5 in mind, since the decision came rather recently to include PS4 versions of it.
Which also indicates how far along the development was.

I do believe we won't have a cyberpunk scenario on Sony's first party games, and I wish GOW wasn't in this list, but it's far from "the end of the world" some are pointing out.

That is prime example, what certain fandoms can do.

PlayStation have communication problems. And their fans need to sort that issues. But the fandom also needs to call out those toxic people in their circle.
