Digital Foundry - Cyberpunk 2077: PS4 vs PS4 Pro Frame-Rate Tests - Can Consoles Run Cyberpunk?

Wait, so this game is trash because it is supposed to run on a 1.8TFLOP console and look like a high-end PC? You guys are too much. I wish CDPR would have just NOT ported the game for the PS4/PRO at all. Then would you still call them crappy because they didn't release the game? Get better hardware. Period. It's only going to stay this way going forward. You've had a crappy CPU system for over 7yrs now. Devs are ready to move forward on tech. They can't stay stagnant forever.
How are you defending this shit? If it cant run on a console, come out and say it. Don't sell broken games to your fans. Looking rough is one thing. 15fps is a slap in the face.

The hell it's that bullshit. If you can't run it properly, just don't release it on such console. People will be angry too, but at least with the time would have accepted it and eventually buy it on next generation.
No one pretending to have the same graphic fidelity of an high end pc.

The slight CPU bump was the non-kinect model, folks with the very original model probably play it turn-based.

there is no difference in cpu between any base Xbox One or One S.
the One S has a 10% GPU boost which is the only performance difference on base Xbox One revisions.

I have no idea where you got that misinformation from tbh.

I'm completely serious. I bought the game for $50 on Amazon and it's not getting a price cut for the foreseeable future judging from the sales numbers. The only thing stopping me from enjoying the game as is is the lack of PS5 stock.

That you bought the game in advance without having secured a preorder is nobody's fault but your own. There is always limited stock available when consoles launch, you know this.

Any chance Sucker Punch do some magic and do a Switch port? 🤫

I was considering it, guessing the regular PS4 dont hold up pretty well. Will go take a look at some Xbox One S footage, but got the feeling i will play this when i get a PS5

Series S, real because I took it.

The graphics engine is next-gen and the scope of the game is what it is is. If they scaled back even more then the game would look like a PS3 game. Do you want that instead?

That driving scene:

Rain FX
Glossy ground with SSR reflections
Explosion smoke that has transparencies.
Then you have to light the smoke so it can be seen

IF the game was struggling with 30FPS BEFORE those added elements in the game from that scene, it will SURELY drop down adding those on top. So what do they do? Cut the rain? Cut the SSR reflections completely? Take the smoke away? Any route they go would make the graphics look even more horrible.

I'm sure they'll patch the game so that it can run closer to 30FPS in these kind of situations but other than that, I don't think CDP cares about last gen. They only advertised it to make the money they needed to build the game on the PC. Yes, that sucks, but that's what they did.

Indoor scene could be ok, but just went and saw a footage of regular Xbox One, and it look like the same thing outdoor like the base PS4. No, not touching that game yet. I got the feeling playing Doom on Switch when looking at this. Its great because its portable, but im not spending money on that game to play this on my PS4 or XB1 S at this framerate.

The devs set expectations unrealistically high with comments about how the Pro and One X versions would support 4K. Very unrealistic obviously but making comments like that and then not showing footage captured from the hardware that most people will play the game on...

I dunno. Can't have been easy to get it out of the door with Covid but the reality is that the last gen versions, even the versions running on the mid-gen refreshes are trash.

This should be in the OP

I'm just happy to see CDPR didn't compromise the game because of inferior console hardware.

I was afraid that we'll get another situation like The Witcher 3 which looked much better before its release.

Next-gen platforms and especially PCs shouldn't be penalized for the crappiness of older devices.

PS4 and Xbox One owners have every right to be at least a little bit upset and certainly disappointed. The original teaser trailer for this game was released only two months after the PS4 and Xbox One hit store shelves! Absolutely not acceptable. It's clear this game's foundation outstripped the capabilities of PS4/Xbox One. They must have known this early in development. They should have scaled back, but, whatever, here we are.

What's also clear at this point is that this game is far from finished. The vision the developers have for this game will only be realized with PC/PS5/Series X. Future DLC will add much to the world as will patch after patch, after patch. PS4/Xbox One will be quietly left in the dust.

Killzone: Shadow Fall and Infamous: Second Son, both launch PS4 titles, look amazing and run wonderfully on the system. There is no excuse for Cyberpunk to be running this poorly (at 720p even).

I don't agree with comments like "get better hardware". The market for CDPR from the base systems is huge, far bigger than the next gen obviously, so it's a bit of a disservice to treat your core audience with a game in this state.

If the product their selling can't run at minimum 30fps, then they shouldn't be selling it. That goes for any game. A few frames here and there is one thing. This is a fuckin slideshow. Or the devs could at least been transparent about hardware limitations and open with consumers to let them decide for themselves. Nobody buys a game and expects frame rates at this level. Even casual players are noticing how garbage this plays. I wouldn't be proud releasing something in this state to any fan

I'm not surprised. The game is barely playable even on my aging but above average GTX 1080 + 6700k combo. No other game challenged this rig at medium settings, not even Kingdom: Come Deliverance, which feels butter smooth compared to Cyberpunk 2077.

Well yeah it was like DF said in the video, it is like a Crysis 3 situation on X360 and PS3. It's not a good game for last gen. Runs well for me on Series X in Performance mode tho.

Did they mention ps5 performance? If it's good I may get it pre-nextgen patch.

I played it on Series X in performance mode and it ran at 60fps with minor dips.
PS5 seems to run at similar settings to the Series X's performance mode so it should be fine.

there are no FOV settings tho and the fov seems to be at around 80° (maybe slightly lower) so be warned if that's something that could give you issues

CDPR knew this and kept silent....

This is a PC game and for consoles only PS5, Series X and maybe S.

They became money whores instead of quality ones . Sorry for base PS4 users that got it, I can not even imagine how it runs on a Xbone S....

I have been playing it for 3 hours now, just messing around and what not, driving around the city, causing mayhem etc. And that is the biggest problem even on PS5. It can easily dip into 40fps(could be even below that) on certain scenarios, taking certain corners or having a high speed crash. Surprisingly, most, if not all shooting scenes(missions etc) are a solid 60fps.

PS: It's buggy as hell

Well at least they're not getting rewarded for this shit as the MC score that the CDPR suits put so much stock in has dropped to 90 and will certainly end up around 88-89, a far cry from the GOAT hype we've been fed for literally 2 years straight :messenger_weary:

They built this game for Nvidia graphics cards, it's quite evident. Big focus on pushing tech which is good but as a console player I'm feeling very short changed here, i wish I could get a refund from PS store but that's quite hard I have been told. I'm on PS5 and the game has crashed 4 times in my play time this evening, feels janky when in the city area, especially in the car using third person cam.

Don't put CDPR up there with R* , naughty dog etc..they have a long way to go in terms of performance and it's just not acceptable for a studio who alot claim to be the best. Not even a stable 30fps choice for people, not sure how XSX is running in its back compat performance mode but the fact it has two modes is shitty to not give it to PS users.

This really shouldn't have released on last gen consoles sales be damned, the fact that CDPR thought it was acceptable is something.
Because people keep complaining about delays. The latest delay was due to optimization for the consoles so you can't really fault them so much
