Digital Foundry: Direct Q+A: The Big DLSS 5 ML Debate + Why We Should Have Waited With Our Coverage

Pussies. Have a fucking spine. If you are excited about something then good, but to say you should wait for the reaction just shows they are scared and only want to send out things that fall in line with everyone else. The fuck is the point

Weird to see that they regretted gushing over it. I think it's cool tech. If I don't like what it does in a certain game, I'll turn it off.

Yeah that was my first reaction to that response. Oh so you wanted to have an opinion not until you've seen the backlash first. Lmfao.

I wonder what it's like being DF and not being allowed to have any opinions that might disagree with what their paying viewers pay for

Must suck being beholden to the Resetera crowd, always walking on eggshells, milliseconds away from being canceled 24 hours a day

It was pitiful hearing Leadbetter explain that they've now realised they were wrong in what they said all along.

It's like the Thought Police are there in the room with them.

All this noise is pointless anyway. neural rendering is the future of high end visuals whether people like it or not, we are hitting big diminishing returns on offline rendering due to GPU progress slowing down.... AMD/Nvidia can't just keep making bigger GPU's because they are already pushing it with how big and power hungry the 5090 is. Node shrinks are not giving giant gains anymore and TSMC etc keep wanting to charge more for smaller returns.
People are going to warm up to this when AMD and Sony announce something similar, a good chunk of the hate is sour grapes right now and FOMO because it seems just like a high end Nvidia thing.

Why is no one shitting on FSR frame resolutions and generation?
They were shitting on DLSS FG before AMD and Intel came out with their versions.
The stupidest thing is that Grace's model ALREADY looked like a different person with PT from the one with baked lighting!! Nobody was mad about that! As soon as the lighting is achieved via AI though, all hell breaks loose.
Graphical settings actually violate the artist's original intent, chud.
Alex was theorizing that a company could send assets or something of a character to be done by a Korean company, it's people looking to find something to complain about.
That was such a dumb point. Outsourcing is already extremely common for game developers. Expedition 33 famously hired people in Korea to do animations, and Insomniac is known to offload a lot of their asset creation work to outside studios.
I mean, it might be the frame generation throw into the mix but the DLSS5 results here already show issues with fast moving objects.

Those issues are in the non-DLSS5 part of the video as well. It could be FG, weirdness with the depth of field, or some combination thereof.

I love how Digital Fraud is getting roasted online.

They are finally showing what they really are. A bunch of incompetents pseudo hipsters

I feel nothing but disgust for Richard. He's shown himself for the sniveling yellow toothed simp that he is. Should have waited to see what the reaction was before he posted shows what a vile cowardly cunt he is.

John is an absolute waste of space with a fragile ego, who that is no doubt feeling empowered by his ShitpitEra followers on Bluesky. Cut that gap toothed mother fucker loose

It looks highly unprofessional for a tech channel to flip-flop on their opinion just because of community backlash.
I don't see it as flipflopping. They clearly just wanted to clarify that the first video was first impressions and they were happy with what they saw. When it came to the backlash they just said that of course there are multiple viewpoints and not everyone on DF will agree.

It became a storm in a waterglass because of overly emotional autistic people. DF is one of my favourite channels much thanks to the people there having different outlooks and tastes. DF will probably talk about DLSS5 over several videos so it was probably self-evident to Rich and Oliver that the first video didn't need to be in-depth explaining every single nitpick they had.

What I also like about DF is that they present a lot of things in an entertaining and personal way. I don't care about dry graphics analysts on youtube who may be more knowledgeable, because I don't understand half of what they talk about, but with DF I can follow their reasoning a lot easier.

ding ding ding!!

There is %100 a console/hardware war element to this within the larger deranged AI syndrome.

when AMD finally catches up to Nvidia with their own version of this in 2-3 years and Sony/Cerny introduces the same 2 years after that, suddenly the technology will be "%100 Halal"

Nvidia did themselves no favors with their shitty presentation and marketing, they should've never used RE9 since it's actually a good looking game with great art and characters.
They should've focused on ugly as fuck games like Starfield (ugly technically and artistically) and Dragons Age Veilguard and other games that look like up-rezed last gen games.

"it doesn't have access to original game assets, geometry, depth or per-material metadata,".
Surely they should work on integrating this and it would solve a lot of the potential issues.

It's not like these guys should be taken as authority on tech opinion anyhow. Nobody should, test yourself or stay deluded. But to literally spell out their irrelevance themselves, that's funny and sad. They should stick to pixel counts on consoles and fps metrics, that they do alright.

Those are photos taken of a display, not direct feed. And what it shows looks nothing like what can be seen in the DLSS 5 video, and more like display ghosting.

It's kind of hard to catch, but I've seen it while playing a few matches. It seems like some kind of bug. The PC version of FIFA has always been inferior to the console versions.

Would it be so hard for Rich to get his teeth professionally cleaned? I mean, I don't need him to look like an instagram model but paying a little bit of attention to his appearance when working in a visual medium isn't a huge ask.

Maybe in time I'll be able to use DLSS5 to clean up the looks of YouTubers? :pie_thinking:

They are such pussies... dark1x goes into some deep depression over AI and the rest apologize for genuine first impressions. What a clown car over there.

I'm not the fan of the tech but there is so much bullshit and misinformation floating around...
True. We should definitely be cautious to not strawman this. Stuff like ghosting or random glitches is NOT the problem. That will easily get fixed with iteration anyway. The actual technique itself is the problem.

I would have respected them more if they just stuck with their initial thoughts. Waiting to see what the crowd thinks before offering an opinion just says they are going to follow along with whatever is popular. This is what most online personalities already do and it makes things much less interesting.

Graphical settings actually violate the artist's original intent, chud.
But DLSS5 implementation is tweaked and provided by the developer. You have to realize that when developers make games they make them to work across multiple platforms, the artists intent is never fully realized due to hardware and time constraints. So now if studios can leverage the extra fidelity and visuals they were originally trying to achieve utilizing AI, then they've accomplished their vision.

You can't tell me this wouldn't vastly improve many games, especially ones that are open world and limited based on their size.

Chud.

A AltruisticFormality , the same ghosting occurs even without DLSS enabled.

Are those artifacts really present in the game? If that's the case what a shitty result. To me it looks like frame generation artifacts, even if in that shot DLSS 5 is disabled.
That's another issue with Nvidia muddying the waters with the DLSS term.

People are identifying common bugs and graphical glitches in games and attributing them all to DLSS5.
Which is expected when they are trying to make things look more photorealistic, making issues stand out more, and Nvidia choose to use that footage for the demo.

They were cucked by John?! Jesus lord, how cuck do you have to be to achieve that? Tells you that his excellent retro content carriers the channel and his manbaby tantrums are a successful weapon.

Yeah it's been happening for a while. UE5 titles with Software Lumen especially, people blaming light bleeding etc on DLSS/Nvidia. Really it's more due to AMD sucking at RT is the reason SW Lumen is compromised.

Could this be the start of John's villain origin story?
WTF is he gonna do, cry like a bitch on Bluesky and then play Bubsy?

Nothing that DLSS5 can't fix!

Blows my mind how great AI is at creating hair with some good physics, while failing with hands and consistency (probably depending on the used AI model and its age/generation). Any 2D artist probably needs many many months or years of trying before getting okay or even great hair in a proper realistic pic, let alone in an handanimated short movie, similar with people trying dynamic non lego brick hair in any modeler. Just won't work without a ton of work or experience without looking goofy or plain wrong.
I won't reiterate that opinion tomorrow. lol

Mocking the Oblivion "reptilian eyes" and Fifa player shirt artifacts even though both are found in the DLSS5 Off footage as well.. this isn't really the way.
Gamers Nexus is a giant loser, you can't listen to anything that comes out of his trap since he's gone on his Nvidia crusade

Because it's not a real tech channel. Straight and simple. I give a stupid example: the last a video about RE9 they claimed such artifacts was caused to the denoiser and not the PSSR2. Lol. They blamed all the time PSSR1 to be the main cause of such issues and now they discovered suddenly denoiser are not exactly part of an upscaler job.
