That looks like G25 wheel he was playing with. I wonder if the PC version is G25 compatible. I love Dirt 2, but it needs a big improvement in physics.

Of course it is. Dirt 2 was compatible with the PC and G25. And if you changed some settings (forgot to write mine down before my last reformat), the FF was pretty great. I'm be curious to see the praise/complaint breakdown. Because I think most people who dislike the FF were console, and most people praising it were PC (where you had options to adjust).

What i'd really like to know is if the clutch and H shifter is being implemented, especially that the classic rally cars are in now.

Thanks. I did not kow that. I really enjoyed Dirt 2. The only issue I had was physics. Will for sure try D2/D3 with Wheel and give my PC some love.

Thanks again.

Do we know if any of what has been shown is console or PC? Guessing PC because it looks so magnificent.

Will be snatching the hell out of this for 360.

Between this, GT5, F4, and Sega Rally (Revo wasn't that bad, so I'm hyped), it's going to be a good year for rally.

Is it just me or am I the only one disappointed? Call me a racing purist, but I feel like the tracks in Richard Burns Rally still put these, multi-million dollar budget games to shame.

I was hoping more of a generational leap, Dirt has seemed (as my own opinion) to be a stagnant series. Adding small features here and there, yes, night rally would be awesome, but it wouldn't be as awesome as getting an authentic rally experience.

I'll still keep an eye on this game, hopefully they will impress me more than WRC and GT5 rally mode did... which were huge let downs, by the way.

B) Since you have a Russian name, maybe you can you tell me what "10-inch storjna" means?

It's hard to hear what exactly it is "Tsel' Unechtozhina" means "target destroyed."
"Sye uneshtojina" is "all destroyed."

Both sound very similar.

your expectations are wrong. this is no longer CMR, a pure rally experience, it is DiRT, a game featuring a variety of racing offroad. i too would prefer a game more like CMR (or, sim like RBR) that is focused on the only aspect i love about it, rally, but i'll take what i can get.

the series seems to be filling in the niche that rallisport left. i cant be the only one that was HEAVILY reminded of rsc2 when watching these latest gameplay vids.

Correct.
Codies stated that they were taking CMR and Race Driver in a different route right from the beginning.
On another note, there's been talk about Evolution Studios perhaps making a comeback with WRC..

I just wish we would ever get a proper sequel to Toca Racer Driver 3. Good God that Grid was shit...

I'm not exactly sure why you imagined this game might be a generational leap above the previous ones as we are still in the middle of this overlong generation. They were never going to make a completely new game from scratch, but just iterate on what was built before and try to make enough little changes to get people to pick up the game again. I'm also not sure a generational leap means re-making Richard Burns Rally.

I think it's hard for these big companies to even thinking about putting their resources into a pure Rally sim, since rally is probably the most ignored motorsport in the huge $$$ market of the US (where as far as I know the only rally coverage on TV anymore is one hour race wrap-up shows on the semi obscure cable channel Discovery (a channel that originally mostly featured science and nature documentaries), wrap-ups that often don't run until several weeks (or more) after the actual race. That officially licensed WRC game from last year didn't even come out in the US.

However I agree, after watching the latest trailers and stuff, the DiRT series does seem especially stagnant & too similar to previous ones to really bother getting excited about. A problem with many games with a 3 or 4 in their title.

Maybe it's just that specific car, or may I'm just imagining things, but the cockpit view in that video looks much better.

Have a good feeling so far. Looking forward to the Norwegian snow levels with snow effects, haven't had a proper snow level since Rallisport 2 :)

Yep. I didn't buy D2 for the same reason. Well, that and it felt like an X-Games/AXE/Monster advertisement.

I think it's time for me to give up on Codemasters ever making another old school CMR-esque rally game.

Personally I am happy about it feels. Much more natural to me than the "ice racing" we see out there.
It looks so much like Dirt 2 that I wonder if they just removed the ATi branded car and repackaged the game.

I think you should because they have no intention of reverting back to the old days..

and gymkhana to practice and goof off in. so mutha fuckin sold.

Yeah, seriously.

60% sounds awesome. Don't get me wrong, I loved DiRT 2 but it was lacking in the Rally department and went a little much in the eXtreme department.

I drank a can of Monster + Juice today, it was good.

I bought dirt 2 mostly because the demo sold me instantly, I beat the game but when I play it in free time I only really play the rally cars on random tracks via time attack options, some of those loop tracks work well with a rally car and it gives the game more legs if you like that kind of thing, real shame there was no dedicated special stage races however :/

At least you make sense! ;)
Personally I'm not letting this detail (as subjective as it is anyways) detracts me from DIRT3 since I've been extremely pleased by Dirt2 -- and even on the realism part.
The days of Richard's Burn Rally are a bit far away and there's nothing that beats DIRT2 right now in matter of "rally feel" on consoles anyway so this DIRT3 is soooo being put in my PS3. I also cannot conceived Colin1 or 2 (never played the third one) as better games, even on the realism. And the time they were good games but that's pretty much all there is to say in my opinion.

the weight transfer talk sounds great. dirt 2 handled wonderfully IMO, so i'm really looking forward to this. it looks and sounds fantastic, cant wait to see more.

odd that EVERYTHING released has been about the rally component only. is that the aspect of the game the hardcore gamers (those researching future titles on the net, wtahcing dev videos, etc) want most whereas the other events are meant to appeal to casual gamers?

Realistic, realistic, realistic!

Really?

I love the handling in Dirt 2 and it looks like it's only getting better. But if it were truly realistic, we wouldn't be able to drive these cars so fast.

I wouldn't say that, we've put out quite a few vids that were Gymkhana focused. However you're right in that we haven't put vids out yet showing off rallycross, multiplayer etc, but those are to come later.

ok, i mis-spoke. i didnt mean rally, p2p, i meant rally, as in rally cars. not buggies, trucks, raid vehicles. so, gymkhana, and even trail blazer and rally cross, still fits what i meant.

we know 60% of the game is rally, what percent would you say is raid? landrush? (by far my least favorite aspects of dirt)

You cannot judge realism on difficulty. It's not possible replicate how hard it is to drive a rally car like pros in real life. It's useless to do that really. What's important is for the game to be playable even if it's as realistic as possible. Don't ask yourself why pro drivers in real life aren't driving with a dualshock 3.

markao said:
But guys, just stay away off the "it's realistic" PR, it will just back fire, due to the nature off the extremely vocal hardcore sim crowd, just don't.
Yeah, a little off-putting. I never, ever, bought a rally racer for its realism. Though when they create a racing wheel that will make me feel like I'm driving a Delta S4 and then throw me off a cliff and make me burst into flames--sign me up.

So I was playing some long-neglected Dirt 2 the past few nights and I came to a few realizations:

1) Damn, this game is repetitive. If you concentrate almost entirely on rally and hillclimb (this is about 90% of what I think the game should be, with the rest left to rallycross--iffy in Dirt 2--and crossover, which is non-existent), you race Utah, China, Morocco, Croatia, and the godawful California spillway... and that's it. No Cyprus, Kenya, Monte Carlo, Wales, Finland, Sweden, France, Germany, etc. etc. etc. They tried too damned hard to appeal to American audiences and it backfired, because as an American, I am bored, sir.

2) The cars get boring really quickly. Who wants to race a 350Z race after race? The "unlockables" for multiplayer seem to be limited to a Ford Escort Mk2, which is average, a Dallenbach Special, which is a God Car on most every hill climb, and a Ford RS200, which is a fantastic rally car that you can't even use in rallies in this game because they dumped it in rallycross. Done. No Lancia Stratos/037/Delta. No Peugeot/Renault. No Volvo/Saab. 95% of hillclimb vehicles are just reskins of their rally counterparts. Vintage woefully underrepresented. Vehicles like the Solstice, Z3 and Eclipse fairly worthless since they're fun to drive but hopelessly underpowered.

Please be awesome, DiRT 3. Multiplayer and otherwise. I realize you can't throw in the Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry for Gymkhana at this late date, and I understand you can't completely trash trophy trucks, Bajas, and buggies, but I'm asking you, Codies, to make this a pleasing mix of everything that was good with the first two games, along with a healthy dose of other things that don't suck.

This is one thing I hope they can remedy in D3. They need something to motivate the player through the massive race grid. Whenever I felt I was making progress through the career 10 more events pop up.

That being said, I don't know what they could do to improve this but I hope they change up the progression in some way.

I kid you not guys, I was going to start playing DIRT 2's career mode for the first time EVER starting tomorrow morning. But after reading these two posts I think I have decided to change my mind. Repetition is THE reason I completely gave up playing F1 2010's career mode after 1 season. Repetition is also something NFS Shift avoided and hence why I completed it last week and enjoyed it tremendously.

Myself, I actually like to learn tracks. I don't know how anyone becomes proficient if they only race a track once or twice. By the time I finished career and unlocked all the tracks and cars, I still didn't know the tracks well enough to compete competently online. And unlike F1, the races are short. People just have really strangle complaints sometime. I guess it's the ADD world we live in.

Although I was playing yesterday and was having the same lockups as F1. I'm gonna have to pull some RAM (I've got issues that have been subsided a little by overvolting it) and see if that's the issue. Never really played Dirt 2 in DX 11 mode before. Was always on XP on DX 9. And unlike when I played F1 2010, I've now pulled my Audigy sound card. So there's 0 percent chance it's being caused by Creative.
