The whole "let's put on-the-nose pop culture references in our movies/videogames" is a trend I wish would die a sudden death. It's amusing when used sparingly, but like you said it's basically a hair away from direct product placement.my only real question for the next movie is how blatant the theme park tie in will be. Coca Cola as a SW brand is now actual canon, it's not a question of will they do product placement in the movie, but how much, and how blatant?
did you hear the Emperor might be coming back??? they are referencing a guy in an old Star Wars movie IN A NEW STAR WARS MOVIEEEE???? a guy that has been in 5 out of 8 films is coming back!!! nobody could have seeeeen this comiiiiiing!!!!FUCK dude this adds like so many layers to the lore

i mean THE SITH. that's a Star Wars thing! and it's going to be in a new Star Wars movie!!! can you believe it!!!!???
They are officially out of ideas.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker New Sith Trooper Revealed - IGN
Disney and Lucasfilm have revealed the Sith trooper, who will be featured in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.www.ign.com
Does it look cool? Sure. Because the original Stormtroopers looked cool.
This is all 21st-century Disney can do, focus-test in on the bits of our childhoods we fondly remember and regurgitate them in a slightly different, usually worse form.
C3PooerGolden is better..
Looks like Star Wars has to take a rest for a few years. Disney has beaten this franchise into a pulp of no substance in an attempt to push merchandise over decent story telling.
And that my friends is why Star Wars ended on 6. As far as I'm concerned there was no 6 or 7 or Solo. Rogue One was well done fan fiction though.
I wish they stopped Star Wars after 1983.And that my friends is why Star Wars ended on 6. As far as I'm concerned there was no 6 or 7 or Solo. Rogue One was well done fan fiction though.
On the bright side, the memes were a little better than poo.I wish they stopped Star Wars after 1983.
In hindsight, everything that came afterwards was poo.
Why do we need red Stormtroopers when these exist?
Have these people ever been explained? Who the fuck are they?
The dude next to Vader is an Imperial Dignitary, I used to have an action figure of him from 1985.they are standing by the door, they are guards.
one of the few mysteries left from OT for me is, who were these guys hanging with the Emperor?
I get that they are guards. It’s more so who are they? How did Luke or Snoke or whoever find them.It says right on the picture lol
White men? That is not your movie, Fuck You! Surely had a bit to do with it....in an attempt to push merchandise over decent story telling...

They clearly aren’t normal stormtroopers.
Yeesh. Sort of disproves this thread. I mean Disney is bad but boy oh boy the Clones Wars era sure had a lot of clone trooper recolor toys to sell.
We didn't even get basic details about what happened to the Republic's rule and army after RotJ, and how the FO was able to surpass the republic's abilities in a mere 30 years despite having their forces and top personnel nearly entirely wiped out (the first death star took over 20 years to build, and they were a ruling Galactic Empire)
But yes, the lack of lore details for the breakout Red Doormen characters from The Last Jedi really grinds my gears as well, huge missed opportunity
Or you know hire decent writers, write out a story then hire cast and directors around it vs just shitting out whatever they can in time for December. Fucking sucks being a Star Wars fan with the way they handled the trilogy so far.Looks like Star Wars has to take a rest for a few years. I don’t blame Rian at all. Giving a director free reign to do whatever they want in a trilogy is a terrible fucking idea even if you have some loose direction of where things should go. Like if you’re going to do that atleast stick with the same director. If only Kathleen didn’t let Rian have free ring. Even when Luke Mofo Skywalker was balking and speaking out against his spectrum like decisions. We could have had something salvageable, even if a close retread.
Instead we get the total opposite of what ESB did with the middle film.
Rian was like that one kid in the neighborhood who said he was just as much a big Star Wars fan, but went against every collective fan theory and narrative with his own delusion of grandeur that made everyone cock their heads to the side, the one that pronounced AT-AT wrong.
The person we all only played with because his family were the only ones to afford the Millennium Falcon palyset for our broke ass figures to join.

Yeah I agree as a stand alone film the last Jedi is a good film. It’s a case of a director given too much rope and creative freedom. Disney should have the scripts of all three movies essentially done and allow directors approved rewrites.Kasden did marvelous with Lucas’s story for ESB. I blame both Rian and the top. (For the record I was not expecting an ESB like film, but was Expecting a coherent story and not dropping characters like Snoke or theory arch’s like Rey’s parents into a void of shit.)
It’s not like we haven’t seen behind the scene videos where Rian was narrating admitting that Mark Hamill as well as a few others were not happy with some of the story direction.
He just had to “convince them of his vision” tho.
This is what happens when you take a arthouse director and give him control of a campy nerd soap opera. As an artsy standalone the film is fine, in the Star Wars fantasy soap opera,
it was out of place.

Instead what happens is Disney hires a director for the movie then allows them to actually write it. Idk how you expect a cohesive trilogy to arise from that method.
Like I enjoy the new films even Solo but they all feel incredibly disjointed and not cohesive AT ALL.
This kind of stuff is so weird to me. The prequels should have shown everyone that Lucas doesn’t know wtf he is doing at all without a bunch of help.Star Wars without George Lucas ain't Star Wars. From the moment I read that Lucas sold his properties to Disney I knew things would go horribly wrong.

Star Wars needs to be a culmination of things to work; Lucas’ world building and imagination, a decent writer, a proven director (someone like Kershner springs to mind) and staff with acres of humility to tell Lucas that sometimes it’s ok to be wrong.
I still say that the original trilogy was in the right place, at the right time...lightning in a bottle as it were. Everything afterwards was diluted, riding on the success of the original. I find it insane that 42 years later and the franchise is still riding on that success. It hasn’t gone anywhere. There is only so much story you can tell when you confine the name of the franchise as “Star Wars”. There are wars and they have to be set in space. Creatively bankrupt if you ask me.
