Clickbait Disney Faceplants With First Animated LGBTQ Character: A Horned Cyclops Lesbian Cop

The LGBTFOPOOPXYZ+ is seething

Disney is proudly unveiling its first LGBTQ animated character — but the initial reveal of its jaw-dropping one-eyed, horned lesbian cop fell way flat.
It was as if the mega-company was trying so hard to not do what not to do, that’s exactly what it did.
And Twitter followers let Disney have it.
The new animated film “Onward,” premiering March 6 and featuring the voices of Chris Pratt and Tom Holland as elf brothers, introduces the first “self-identified” lesbian character into the Disney-Pixar universe. Officer Specter is a Cyclops cop voiced by openly gay screenwriter and actress Lena Waithe.

“It opens up the world a little bit, and that’s what we wanted,” director Dan Scanlon boasted to Yahoo Entertainment. “It’s a modern fantasy world and we want to represent the modern world.”
A few problems: With just a single LGBTQ character, the modern world of “Onward” isn’t so modern. Officer Specter makes only a brief appearance in a single scene and refers once to her girlfriend. Viewers don’t ever meet or see the girlfriend, according to Slate.
And though the film takes place in a “magical kingdom” with “fantastical creatures,” the other characters in the trailer all look pretty ... normal.
Granted, Disney faces a tough crowd. Many Twitter accounts mentioning Officer Specter were peppered with comments by people swearing off the film because of her.
But many blasted Disney for wimping out again. Why oh why, wondered one critic, couldn’t Elsa in “Frozen” finally come out?

So why does anyone care? Did Disney virtuesignal or something?

Edit: wouldn't be surprised if Disney treated gay chars as a marketing prop.

Looks pretty accurate, tbh.

You can’t win, and it’s never enough. So don’t pander. Put in the characters you want, gay or not, and make films the same way people made them for decades, not trying to drive yourself mad with pages on pages of diversity quotas and percentages.

I say this fully aware that it falls on deaf ears.

Why do gay people care so badly about this so-called representation? This is a fantasy character, in a fantasy world. If it is mention for only one sentence, Why does her having a girlfriend or boyfriend matter at all?

it would be like if a character existed just to say "I love Jesus" for one second in a movie. It's just stupid

They’re one of the few groups that actually was socially oppressed in recent memory.

That made them a perfect target for the left’s victimhood pushing, insane ideology to sink its hooks into.

So make your own movies with whatever representation you like. With blackjack. And hookers.

Disney doesn't care. Their business is making movies my nephew and niece will see eleven times.

Stop bitching about companies not representing you. Represent your fucking selves.

Because it makes them feel better.

Their assumption is every character (real actor or animation) is heterosexual even though most characters in movies don't tell, since a person's sexual preference has no point in the plot.

It would be like every character in Lord of the Rings at some point during the series of films to tell viewers if they have boyfriends or girlfriends. And let viewers figure out from there if they are straight or gay. Doesn't seem like it's important for the plot, so who cares.

So in order to feel there's such thing as a gay person in a movie, they have to either say it, have it in the plot, or the writers add a blatant gay role with a feminine man giggling.

No it isn't you lazy fuck lol, it's literally like 30 seconds to upload a screenshot to imgur and copy the link. You're not that busy. A pain in the ass is constantly seeing blocked media on a forum where screenshots have been a viable method for sharing content to everyone for decades.
Quit browsing gaf at work or fix your internet you lazy fuck.

How am I lazy, I post screenshots now because it makes more sense I think. It's a really simple and easy way to ensure that it's always visible to everyone on the board. It's considerate, archives the post, and barely takes any time.
You're not alone, I see "Tweet not available"or just the Twitter icon too many times. Screencaps load right away without me having to refresh.

Very much appreciated. I don't mean to be an ass about it I just like to make the suggestion when I see OPs with tweets that could have just as easily been an image, or have included one along with the original tweets but didn't. There is benefit to having the embedded tweet at times I suppose, people can easily click that to dive into that conversation on twitter. I know it takes a few more seconds but especially with OPs, why not take that few seconds and make it visible to more of the community, I've noticed more and more people complaining about this thing in a few corners of the net, I think there are a ton of people browsing the site at places where social media is blocked. When I made the suggestion here, the post got more likes than the OP. Another place I visit, a few members have taken to posting the original tweet along with a screenshot of it, best of both worlds, if you're on a desktop this is really a trivial amount of time we're talking about here to do this stuff. Anyway sorry for the derail.

Disney sucks.

Disney is desperately trying to have their cake and eat it. Trying to score woke points but also not really committing to a real character being gay. Gotta get that China money too you know.

Here’s a thought. Let your narrative drive character decisions instead of some woke checklist. It’s such silly pandering. It’s so transparent.
