Just get Ed Sheeran to play Aladdin.
Why not one of the actors from the Aladdin play? I heard that was really good, plus they're familiar with the material and can sing.
None of them are Middle Eastern, Arabian.
Why do some of you keep casting Indian people in a non-Indian role?
Because fuck it, we should be glad some one brown is getting the role instead of Jake Gyllenhaal. Ironically Jake wouldn't look too out of place in a lot of Middle Eastern families.
Danny devito as the monkey

Yeah I actually would be. It's essentially Hollywood telling us, 'look we gave the role to someone ethnic, aren't you happy now?!" A white actor getting the role at least is Hollywood doing what they always do.You sound like you'd be insulted having another brown be cast than a white person.
They honestly should. To me it makes no difference. A Mexican isn't Middle Eastern, and neither are Pakistanis or Indians. So why should I applaud the latter and bemoan the former? The end result is the same to me.I mean, going by this logic they might as well cast a mexican actor as long as he has the right skin tone, right?

Will Smoth as Genie😂😂😂😂😂😂
Why does the actor need to sing? They can just dub over it with a singer. That's what they did for La La Land...which is a really popular musical movie.
if Disney can't find an Aladdin that meets their standards after seeing 2,000 applicants, where does the fault lie?
The first scene (traffic scene) at least. None of the dancers are the singers.Who did they dub over in La La Land? The biggest criticism about La La Land is Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling not being able to sing and it shows in using their real voices.

Not even the first girl in the car. It's pretty convincing so Disney could totally go that route if they needed to.
Why is that not the same? It's lip syncingLOL That's not the same. The main characters also sing. Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, and John Legend sing with their real voices.
Not saying dubbing can't be an option for Disney, just pointing out you picked a bad example.

Yes, which is understandable, but you said:

The ~10 year age gap between him and the character?
Aladdin is set in India. It's a tale from Arabian Nights about a kingdom far to the East of Arabia (That would be India or China...).Why do some of you keep casting Indian people in a non-Indian role?

Hell, even in the Disney movie they were close enough to China to fly there and watch fireworks...

the first treatment was actually set in baghdad, but was changed to fictional agrabah because of the gulf war

That doesn't make it a good thing. There was a ten year gap between Emma Watson and Belle.
LOL so much for this, cast was just announced
