I don't think Sony is anti-consumer at all, who cares about playing with xbox people? Nameless, facless dudes on the net...
Sony has to protect its platform at certain points and not give away a hard fought advantage. If they were truly anti-consumer, they would be focused on always online games, with dlc and lootboxes.

Truth is, this anti-consumer talk is usually pushed by xbox fans. They are so angry this generation, after the 91 million sales was announced, one xbox gamer posted a picture of him posing with guns.

Stay salty OP. The best gaming library at amazing prices plus being the clear leader in VR, taking risks that the others don't. In my book, that is being PRO consumer.

I could mention straight LYING in a console reveal by saying that they would deliver "high fidelity VR" and then don't give any of it without an apollogy or keeping games at full price for ages as ANTI-consumer measures. But whatever rocks your boat.

Sony has done nothing wrong this generation, so I can't even vote on this poll. I wanted great games to play on PS4, they gave it to me.....I have nothing to complain of, my purchase was justified many times over...….If anything, I just have one request, just keep on doing what they did this gen.....
The only disagreement I have is their lack of PS1/PS2 backwards compatibility. I'm in Australia, so PSNow is not even a thing here. So basically, we have zero BC except for the extremely meager PS2 "remasters" which appear to have completely stopped now...
Other than the lack of BC, Sony has killed it with PS4. Just would loved to have been able to play all the PS1/PS2 classics I purchased on my PS3 on my PS4. I don't think that's too much to ask, is it? They really have a rich library of old content that i'd love to replay again, and even to show my kids.

What you think Microsoft wouldn't have come 1000x worse if the shoe was on the other foot during the DRM shitshow?
They've literally jumped on everything Sony have done wrong (even if some accusations are undeserved ) and took the chance to paint themselves in a good light which is exactly the same thing as you're accusing Sony of its the same thing .
If Don Mattrick was still in charge? Maybe, but not with Phil. I seem to remember Microsoft praising Sony for their success more than anything. 1000x worse? The hyperbole does not bode well for your argument sir.

Stating that XBOX X would have "true VR" versus "lesser than PC" VR Sony is anything but fair play. How this has been erased from collective memory still shocks me but it's as easy as Google it. How about crossplay ? want to know what well-behaved Microsoft says about it ?

https://www.cnet.com/news/sony-stil...rs-about-cross-play-says-xbox-exec-hes-right/

If they don't shit any more on Sony is because they just can´t without looking like fools.

That has nothing to do with this thread. This is about who responds and treats there fans better. Ya microsoft hasnt had the best games they still have released more good games than Nintendo. Nintendo released 2 great games. Some ok games luke Mario and rabids and then charged you 60 bucks for ports of smash Mario Kart new super Mario etc. Then they charge you 60 bucks for games that came out years ago like Diablo 3 and other 360 ports. Make u use an app to for voice chat. Charge you for a sgitty network that doesn't give u games like ps plus or live. Give u system with a 6 hour battery life with bad ports. I'll give them Mario and Zelda but thats it. Everything else they do is anti consumer. They rely on Nostagle for everything because they know there fans will be there repackaged trash. I'll take xbox one's exclusives over the 2 good ones switch has. The rest of switches library I can already play on x1 due to bc which guess what even Nintendo doeant have

While I praise their BC on X1X, not making games for their console is pretty anti customer

These companies don't "become" anti-consumer. They start out anti-consumer. The strength of their product in the market determines how much of that they feel they can get away with. It is that simple business rule of thumb, charge what the market will bear, applied to all aspects of the relationship, not just pricing.

Sony hasn’t said or done anything that made me go, that’s terrible so I think they are pretty good right now, Microsoft kinda had to after that E3 2013 mess. Next gen will be interesting for sure.

Well, you could be right in the future. But for now, Sony has just taken bad decisions and been lazy because the PS4 is too successful, and they apparently don't want to sell many more while securing the market for the next-gen. They're more stupid than anything, but not anti-consumer yet.

The impression that it pales compared to the various recent Xbox efforts, doesn't mean that Microsoft is anymore pro-consumer, let's not forget they make that horrible cancer Windows 10 and those overpriced Surfaces...
Yeah. Sony has made some really bad decisions. Including releasing a multitude of highly rated exclusives (God of War, Spiderman, Horizon Zero Dawn, BloodBorne, Uncharted, Infamous). Lets not forget that ultimate sin they're going to commit this year by releasing even more exclusives. Screw The Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, and Days Gone.

Nintendo is the most anti-consumer company of the big three. MS is probably the most consumer friendly. One could argue this presently stems from their position of market weakness, playing catch up after the terribly botched One launch. Either way, Xbox has the undisputed best value in gaming in Game Pass. The fact that MS just purchased/built/expanded seven studios to pump content into GP is a huge win for the Xbox consumer who will see a tidal wave of new 1st party GP content soon, yet will pay the same low subscription fee.

Sadly yes. The Sony censorship debacle is a step too far in the wrong direction.
We now have porn games on steam and it's OK. Nothing bad came of it for Valve.
Meanwhile Sony in censoring virtual cleavage but virtually murdering people in horrific violent ways is OK. Nice logic.

That said I voted yes in the poll but I don't necessarily agree that MS has gone fully pro consumer. They have a long history on anti consumer practices and if the become the Market leader I expect them to revert to them.

I wouldn't say that Sony is anti-consumer at this point, but they are headed in that direction. Crossplay, censorship, refunds, etc... I'm sure they'll get friendly around launch of the PS5 though.

MS really has made a remarkable turn around though. Everything aside from single player cinematic exclusives it does better than the PS4. Lot's of people claim that those exclusives are all that matters, and apparently there's a bit of truth to it seeing how well the PS4 sells. With all the studio aquisitions MS has made though, I'm confident that they are looking to rectify that situation.

Only way they can do that is if they reverse their decisions. Nothing shows that they are moving in such a direction. They are doubling down on needless, haphazard censorship.

OP, your poll options suck, fyi.

So you established Sony as the "bad" guy, why even vote?

Just because Phil Spencer says a lot of "pro-consumer" things, MS is suddenly the good guy? But in fact, nothing much ground breaking has changed?
Crossplay is worst MS propaganda i seen in ages, back to OG xbox days of MS using internet hordes as their white knights.

Own all the consoles, definitely think that them not going for cross platform is a really anti-consumer move. Why would ANYONE champion having LESS players in a potential player pool. It's seriously the stupidest shit opinion to have for a console other than being some fanboy that doesn't want to share. It helps in the long term of literally EVERY SINGLE MP game as you'll have a bigger pool of players to choose from as a game ages and gamers move on to other games. I get it, for some arbitrary reason some people don't want to play cross platform, I think the fair compromise would be to allow players to have the option to play cross-platform or strictly only on their platform. It's essentially relegated my PS4Pro into a single player only machine, which is honestly fine as just about the best games on it are only single player anyways.

No. Just like I don't believe MS was anti consumer. If you and even a huge group of people don't like something a business is offering, it doesn't mean it's anti consumer. These companies are constantly moving a slide level between their and their customer's interests in order to find the most profitable balance. MS tried to make too far of a jump. People had every right to dislike them for it. But it's not anti consumer.

Personally I don't trade in games and play on a 2nd system that requires me to always be online. Been like that the whole gen. So it was no biggie for me. It would have been nice to get B&M sales for digital code. Also I like the idea of developers getting all the sales for their games. Which is why all my games are bought digitally.

Aside from locking my Fortnite account, blocking crossplay and throwing away hundred of PS1 games on the trash bin, nah.

They are doing what they have to. And what they can do, since PS4 is number 1 this gen.

But yeah, "#4ThePlayers" just does not goes well right now, I'd say.

The only reason some care about them is because PlayStation has them. There’s a difference between being anti consumer and not cater to your taste.
And the only reason that some claim to not care is because Microsoft doesn't (currently) have them.

This is fun! :pie_invert:

P.S. Can't wait for that narrative to shift next gen. ;)

I believe you're turning GAF into a complete crapshow with your constant poll spam.

Seriously, mods?
Don't blame the staff, report the content.

There are other vendors where that should be discussed.

On point comment though. Rarely does a oneliner hit a mark. I mean, all the poll options are valid but at the same time i feel like ''Why are people even asking this?''

After Sony took the lead they’ve become anti consumer plus they are holding the technology back.

But why shouldn’t they? They could sell a turd on a can and people would still buy it.
What do you mean by they are holding the technology back?

Seriously how is this even possible ?

They could sell a turd on a can and people would still buy it?

You re an avid xbox fanboys I assume?

They are holding cross-play technology back.

They don’t offer refunds, and generally compared to the other console manufacturers they are generally behind on anything else than games. And as long as Sony players don’t care about their consumer rights and only cares about exclusives, then that won’t change.

Depends on how you determine a Xbox fanboy. I mainly play on my Xbox One and pc, and second on my Switch and PS4. But if not only owning a PS4 makes me an Xbox One fanboy, then yes I am according to your logic.

Just because they opted not to introduced crossplay it doesn't mean they're holding technology

That is a ridiculous thing to say

Crossplay is not the same as technology, you better get used to it champ

Not sure how to react on the bolded part

I'll let the other member to have a look at it and raise their eyebrows

Besides the crappy censorship fiasco, I don’t think they have been anti-consumer or even really sanctimonious like so many people claim. I like Microsoft, but they had to become more pro-consumer recently after what they tried to pull with the introduction of the Xbox One it they wanted to stay relevant against the PS4.

I have moved mostly to Xbox this gen but I think a lot of this is overblown. Lack of backwards compatibility is irritating and the reason I switched Xbox but it’s not like Sony shut it off; PS4 never had it and Sony never implied it would other than PSnow and some remasters.

I actually support them on EA origin, I think that’s a good stance. Game pass I support because it’s the platform holder I don’t Want every publisher having there own subscription.
