Do you buy video game soundtracks or play them on youtube?

I do both, depending on the availability of the music.
Youtube has uploaded "longplays" of Xenosaga episode 1 and episode 3 as full soundtracks (not playlists, they are full video soundtracks)
But no matter how many times I search, the only way to listen to Xenosaga episode 2 soundtrack is via a playlist, rather than a long video of it, which sucks because I prefer it as a long video instead and wish someone would upload it that way.

What are some gaming tunes you like to listen to?

Am i legally allowed to say i listen to them on youtube?

That's actually a really good question now that I think about it. I see it as no diff then someone uploading a longplay of the game, which many youtbers do with subs that number in the millions. I also buy the music off Itunes if it exists, so there is that as well.

CD > MP3/Youtube/streaming, but it's been ages since I bought a new soundtrack. I used to do it occasionally for games with music I really liked and always loved it when they would come bundled with the game. A couple of the ones I have tucked away:

Both. I want to buy chrono cross ost. I need to have it;p

I would love to have them all as physical disks, but they are seriously expensive on amazon and other places. Even digital, they aren't cheap. That's when I turn to youtube, but have had no luck with Xenosaga ep 2. Obviously lots of people have the soundtrack because lots of people have uploaded it to youtube, but not in the way that the user who uploaded 1 and 3 did in my examples above.

Agreed, though some of these are really rare today, and very expensive physical and digital, which is why I youtube them if I have no other choice.

Most of the stuff I listen to is rpg related, but there are exceptions like the Donkey Kong soundtrack. I really get into the surreal and relaxing stuff like this song from that game, and others like it:

I have had a couple of videos copyright claimed before they even finished uploading before so I'd imagine the companies that own the rights to the music are fully aware of the channels that upload. Some of these game music channels have 100s of thousands of followers , so it's a safe assumption that they are okay with it . Considering how easy and effective it is to copyright strike a channel into oblivion I can't see them wanting to do something about it but not

yeah that's not even cool. You can get away with it if you have 1 million subs, but someone like me who has only 6? Insta blocked worldwide.

Feel free to turn this into a "post relaxing game music here" thread. I like seeing what other people like when it comes to this sort of thing.

I like these:

Usually Youtube, but I do own a few soundtracks on disc. I would definitely buy a few more OSTs, but they are usually super expensive physically, and I don't see the point in buying digital versions since the sound quality is often compromised. It sucks, but what can you do?

I would love to buy more Sonic: The Hedgehog soundtracks, but the import versions are so much better than the digital/American releases. Trouble is, is that the import versions are so expensive, and are only getting more expensive.

I'm just glad I own this:

I occasionally listen to parts of the Halo Reach OST on YouTube and ever since the Hellblade II trailer, I sometimes play In Maidjan on YT.

Edit: This topic reminded me to find the Bard's Tale 4 OST on YouTube, it's one of the best soundtracks ever. When I was playing that game, I sometimes would just stay in one area to hear certain songs repeat,

I've been buying anime OST CDs since the early 90s and game OSTs since the mid 90s. I started recording game music on cassettes over 30 years ago. Most new games have only a fraction of the 8-16 bit era power. Youtube is good for reference but it's not my go to source.

Both. First soundtrack I ever bought was Halo Combat Evolved on CD back in 2004 I think. Been collecting and listening on CD and Vinyl ever since.

I also listen on YouTube whenever I'm away from my hi-fi set up.

Depends, if it's something I really like then I'll grab the CD or FLAC, assuming of course it isn't some rare out of print BS where a single copy is like £200, the next step would be to listen to it on Spotify/Apple Music, failing that then YouTube is cool but I wouldn't use it to rip the tracks, most people don't know how to upload audio properly on YouTube.

CD = MP3. WAV, or better yet, FLAC format is what your looking for if you want high quality audio.

Source: I produce and mix music.

Yes I do, a lot:

Just going to re-post the rest of the linked music above again as embedded vids since they didnt post properly and cannot edit last msg now. If a mod can merge these two posts that'd be cool:

I buy game ost obsessively. I have a few hundred of them (thank god for bandcamp), so needless to say, it cost me a small fortune

I also did a few game ost reviews and game music-related videos on yt

Yeah I really like game music. I hardly go a day without listening to at least a few tracks here and there, depending on my mood

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Youtube. Can you even buy most game soundtracks in a lossless, downloadable format? I'd be down to buy like... an awful lot of arranged Falcom soundtracks, but not if they're mp3s or some weak shit like that.
