Do you look at your poop after you take a dump?

When I was young I would take a quick glance at it for no particular reason whatsoever before flushing.

Ever since my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer a couple of years ago I find myself starting at my shit for a good thirty seconds looking for anything that may indicate a real problem.

Sometimes I get freaked out if the poop is too thin but thankfully everything has seemed pretty normal.

It's quite fascinating what you can learn from your own feces.

I poke at it with a stick... you know, to break it down a little to see how well I digested my food.

Considering that colon cancer is pretty common among men, I don't see why you shouldn't look at your stool after you poop. (for blood, etc).

and Yes, I'm being serious.

Today?

Too close. Everything looked fine.

I think I just over analyse it after my mom's colon cancer but it's a serious fear of mine.

What I was younger I barely thought about it. It's something that becomes important as you get older.

Yes it does. Everything from consistency and color can show health issues.

Yes. I'm pretty sure most people look at their poop, intentionally or not, so I'm not sure how this is a big deal.

It's a shame that it took my mother's cancer to finally get me concerned about it.

Yes that is similar. My mom was having issues with pale almost white poop. She turned out ok but one day I had the same thing. There is something I was eating that caused it but when you look at the potential causes it is scarey.

It's interesting though.

I just assumed that most people look as well but how do we really know since most of us aren't in the stall when someone else is pooping.

There is also the fact that while people may be looking they may not be looking for anything serious.

My mom had no idea what to look for when it came to colon cancer.

Always take a glance at the least, but I'm willing to stand there for a bit after a big one just to admire it.

We've had this discussion a year ago and someone posted about catching one of their poop to inspect it and taste it... I forgot who and I'm kinda too lazy to search.

Damn right.

I know a guy who was shitting blood for like a year and never knew it because he never checked. It wasn't until he started bleeding all over his underwear that he finally went to a doctor.

I figure grown men would be over the sight of their own poop. And no, we're not ogling it or playing with it or anything. I give mine a quick glance and off it goes. I know what it normally looks like, if something's wrong, I'll see it immediately without having to sit and stare at it.

This thread will pretty much separate the adults from the kids. Gastrointestinal problems can be difficult to observe: your bowel movements are one of the few ways your body has to demonstrate that there's a problem.

Protip, kids: if you've got pets, you should pay attention to their bowel movements as well. They have even fewer ways to communicate their problems than we do.

Of course. It's like inspecting a work of art. Points of size, color, texture. Bonus if it hasn't broken or sticking out of the water.

Yes, it's important to keep an eye on the colour of your stool.

If it has fresh blood, then it's either a bleed in your lower gastrointestinal tract or you have hives or something.

It's black then you're bleeding in your upper gastrointestinal tract. It can also look black if you're taking iron supplements.

Potentially both could be quite serious but keeping an eye on your stools is important for one's health.

I'm an anxious shitter.
