When I was a kid I was taught to call my mom sisters Aunt. Then when I got in high school and moved out of Baltimore City into Baltimore County and made white friends they all referred to their aunts as ants. I was so confused as to why they'd call them an insect.


In my experience all white people call their aunts, ants. My wife does it, everyone in her family does too. Its mildly irritating, but I deal with it.

So what do you use? Aunt or Ant?

I know aunt is the proper pronunciation, but it sounds like a british accented version of ant which is what I and everyone around me uses.

It's might very well be regional. Just in my experience blacks say Aunt and whites say Ant.

Both, really. Said Ant more in my childhood but I would say thats because I lived around a lot of my country family.
