DOA5:LR Community Soft-Bans 100+ Costumes from Tournaments

Soft-ban if old.

***READ: Part of the community is making this decision, not Koei-Tecmo***

From the Free Step Dodge Forums:
'The HuBBs,' one of Free Step Dodge's administrators and an active member in the community, has posted a general, recommended list of tournament rules.

Why is there a costume ban for DOA5LR?

This is a movement that was discussed by several members of the community to try and help turn around the image that has plagued the franchise. DOA has always been known for its over-sexualized females and just that alone has pushed people away from even trying the game. Sex Appeal in the DOA franchise will never go away but we, the community, want people to take it seriously and started the costume ban at offline tournaments to force people to focus more on the gameplay aspect of the game. This is a soft ban and is at the discretion of the TO running the game at the event. However we HIGHLY encourage people to not use the suggested costumes on stream for something like Top 8.

Banned Content
DOA5
Dojo stage is removed from Random Filter
Over Sexualized costumes* (Soft Ban)
DOA Dimensions
Metroid Stage is banned(DOA Dimensions)
DOA4
Experimental Playround stage is banned
DOA3.1
Hayate's Cartwheel (2P+K / 8P+K) is banned

I actually don't know what to make of this. Are we pretending that DOA is something other than an over-sexualized fighter or is this a real attempt to present this game in a way that will appeal to more people?

I do enjoy DOA, but I won't lie, the sex appeal IS what lured me in years ago and I'm sure that tactic is still working.

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
The gross oversexualization is why I see DOA as a joke series. If they ever stripped that away I'd return as I do like Helena and Jann Lee but I'm happy with Guilty Gear/Tekken/Soul Calibur/Blazblue/Street Fighter in the meantime.

I love the mechanics but hate the super skimpy outfits, i'm sure there are others that feel the same but not many. This is a good step to make watching tourneys safe at work atleast lol.

DOA5:LR is the best the series has ever been. It's a solid 3D fighter.

You dont even have to buy anything to even play it. All the PSN versions offer the core game with online MP as a free download, even the Vita version.

Same here. I liked past games, but all that stuff is a big turnoff. Can you turn the stupid jiggling off?

So, what do you pay for?

Marie Rose 19 is her ninja outfit. I heard that there are other ninja outfits being banned as well, although I haven't checked. https://twitter.com/POSIndustries/status/571874614864945152

Kinda pointless if the actual company pushes the DLC every waking moment.

I respect the effort of the community though.

My take away from this is seeing all those numbers, and I remind myself that some characters have up to thirty nine costumes, and that number will continue to grow.

In regard to the soft ban, whatever. It's an image thing for those wanting to present the game. If it helps, then good. If it doesn't, then this was a wasted effort.

Meh. Seems kind of dumb. Then again I doubt too many tourney players really make a big fuss about what costume they're wearing. Changing what is soft banned won't change the view of the game unless Tecmo decides to really change that. Which doesn't seem the case at all.

You can turn off breast physics or use a realistic very toned down version. And turn off sweat and water physics as well.

You can download core fighters and that gives you training, combo, and challenge mode and onlin MP, you have 5 base fighters with 1-2 that cycle out each week to give you new characters to play. You cant earn any trophies but you can unlock some costumes and play online.

Why is this banned?

Hayate's Cartwheel (2P+K / 8P+K) is banned

It's in DoA3.1

I'm not sure why this is listed here.

Erh...This is what DOA is all about. It's like removing the sex scenes from a porn movie. Silly decision

The problem is people THINK this is what DoA is all about.

It isn't. There's a great fighter there and too many people get caught up in the shitty outfits. At least for tournaments, this will help people focus on the fighting, not the titties.

I'm not sure what this has to do with anything

Random tangent. Community set bans are fascinating. I haven't watched much, but fatalities looked like they killed the pace/hype of matches because of the inherent delay.

You can read into it what you want.
