Yeah for sure! I mean I love the trilogy no doubt, I don't think something like that can be recreated, if it would be recreated then it wouldn't be upto the mark.

Plus, that HD collection sucked some major ass! And that's why Konami sucks now, among other reasons.

This is another thing that's frustrating is there's no easy way for people to play them these days thanks to the failure of the HD collection.

The PS2 originals are still the best versions but there's the problem of them not being in HD, in the case of 2 especially it's like if Citizen Kane was only available on VHS, it's a fucking travesty.

It's ok for me since I hung onto my CRT for 6th gen games but I wonder how newer generations of gamers can experience them, I suppose emulation is the easiest route but there should be a better official way to play them.

I could imagine that if RE2 is a success (which I think it will be) that Konami will maybe remake the old games. Though I have never played any silent hill game back in the days. I heard nothing but good about silent hill 1-3

Canceling that PT project was insane. The demo was amazing, literally terryfing. I believe the franchise can be successfully reinvented and bring much value to modern gaming. But hey, Konami choose to show us all a middle finger.

I miss them so much. It just really sucks how the entire series has been treated. It was a true work of art and Konami acted like it was nothing.

Can't really say I miss it. Not because I don't like it. I own'em all except for Downpour. I really want to play and beat it, but I don't have a PS3 anymore.

But yeah, I don't miss'em. Before my PC problems, I was streaming a trilogy playthrough every weekend on Twitch. Which I will do again, once this damned keyboard comes from Amazon.

What I do miss.. is having Team Silent work on the bonafide series they created. Aside from the cash grab that was The Room. The Room was the worst fucking game after you had to escort Eileen, I mean, I'd use the glitch in "Monkey World Mall" to make things easier, but it felt like no matter how fast and efficient I was with her, she still looked like shit when I got to the final boss, till I found out about using the candle just before that.

It's not that hard of a game, but it's an obnoxious game, still. Lotta backtracking, more than most games and the ugly reuse of the worlds and the mundane ghosts. The ghosts, while easy to avoid, were annoying when more than 2 were chasing you.

Team Silent should have remained employed, but I have a feeling that Team Silent was deliberately sacked, so that Konami could go the Resident Evil 4 horror-action route with other developers who would share the new vision that the company had. When they didn't want to sell-out, Konami got rid of them, like they no longer mattered. That's why I think all of the post Team Silent stuff just universally sucks.

During my college days I was a horry movie, book and game aficionado. Silent Hill 2 made me rethink how hard core I was. I thought I was cool watching all the old Italian Zombie Movies and the Japanese Ghost movies. SH2 made me play in sessions with the lights on. My buddy used to play with the lights off and I'd go over to his house after class and get creeped the fuck out.

They don't make them like that anymore even though Siren tried.

Have you played the first? I tried Shattered memories and wanted to like it, but I just couldn't go 'there'

While chase parts were bad overall game is best SH since SH4. If you didn't finish it then you won't understand why.
It takes basically old fans of SH games and uses their knowledge against them to effectively create new game.
It takes your assumptions and runs wild with them and you are like "oh shit" few times.

Silent Hill 2 was one of the best game experiences i had. The first game i played on my brand new PS2, a taste of "next-gen" and one of the best horror games at the same time.

I also loved the 3rd one because of how over the top it was. I only played the first one a few times though. Oh and Shattered Memories was good, although too short and not that scary considering you were always safe.

I don't care for the rest of them.

And yeah, i do miss the Team Silent style.

PT kind of proved Kojima doesn't understand what Silent Hill is about. It was cheap hollywood paranormal activity not silent hill. It would be just big budget outlast or something.

Kojima doing Silent Hills was like Michael Bay doing Grave of Fireflies.

I completely agree. Even better it plays with you being old SH fan. While it is confirmed that game changed mid production from completely unrelated game to SH game i think it worked out great in the end. Chase sequences like you said were stupid and i think developers mentioned that this was publisher forcing to do them or even outright outsourcing those to some other team like nuDeusEx boss battles.

I especially love that part when you come from bathroom in club.

edit: Never use color inversion kids. answered myself XD

To me at least, The Evil Within carries the spirit of Silent Hill. OK, I know it's not the same and it will never feel quite right any more, but there's a lot of notable similarities, so it can pass off as a good replacement. Sometimes, you just have to find some good among the bad, so you will stay enlightened.

Kind of late to the discussion but I'll give my two cents. I'd love to see another silent hill especially something more akin sh1, which is in my opinion the best one in the series and kind of underrated when compared to 2. The only thing able to scratch that itch was Lone Survivor and maybe Darkwood in terms of visual and sound design
Why have they yet to get together a Kickstarter in order to make a Silent Hill spiritual successor ala Bloodstained? It seems like such an obvious thing to me, I guess the mysteriousness of what became of most of Team Silent is part of what's so frustrating as a fan.
I think most of them moved on to other projects and it's hard to get them back together. Bear in mind that even from SH1-4 the team changed a lot and it showed, it was not made primarily made by one or two people like Igarashi's Symphony of the Night. Masahiro Ito, the creator of many of the monsters including Pyramid head, tweeted that he'd love to make another Silent Hill but he's only part of what made SH happen.
I would pay full price for 2 and 3 on modern systems even without upgrades.
You can still play the pc ports for 2/3 which run great and at modern resolutions. The only one that has really big problems is 4

I miss Silent Hill but The Evil Within is honestly a very similar spiritual successor to Silent Hill by one of the grandfathers of the franchise Shinji Mikami.

I recommend getting those games if you want a Silent Hill fix.

I like Evil Within I really do but other than some what similar enemy design its nothing like Silent Hill.

For myself, I think The Evil Within is a hard game. I kind of appreciate that they attempted to bring back survival horror of the 90's with a modern look, and did it better than Capcom with Resident Evil 6 and so on. It takes getting used to and you don't feel very macho in it either.

I miss it, and that style of survival horror in general. The series had good and bad games, but I played them all and would have liked them to keep trying. Hopefully once Death Stranding is out Kojima can recycle his PT ideas into a new survival horror franchise.

wut

I'm an adult and I love horror games and movies. No they're not scary but some can be tense and I enjoy the feeling. "I'm an adult now, scary games aren't real or good now". What a fuckin stupid comment.

Its fine if you are not in to horror games but out of curiosity what being adult has anything to do with not liking "scary" games?
To further clarify years of sleep paralysis from a young age to present day pretty much ruined horror for me. That is why I said adult but I should have just said I was desensitized! Prob just this as a first post. Yes!

I'm very desensitized. You just don't like horror shit, it's cool, not everyone does. Sleep paralysis is definitely on some real horror type stuff, so I feel for you.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories was awful.

No, it's not awful, Homecoming and Downpour are awful.

Shattered Memories is certainly not as great as 1-3 but it's still a good game for what it is.

I'm just so glad we got one last decent game with Silent Hill in the title after Konami dissolved Team Silent.

I like The Evil Within, it feels like a blend of Silent Hill and Resident Evil.

I think most of them moved on to other projects and it's hard to get them back together. But moved on to what exactly? I think the creator of the first game went on to make Gravity Rush, but what about Hiroyuki Owaku? What's been up to? Dude seems to have simply vanished.

Not really. As an adult "scary" games just don't do it for me.

I'm an adult but last time I played Silent Hill 2 it managed to legit creep me out, to where I felt nervous when being in the dark.

Listening to "Room of Angel" right now... Yes, definetly. I miss Silent Hill pretty much.

But to be honest - they would need to bring everyone from the old team back in order to capture the unique atmosphere of the classics.
Although I liked "Downpour", nothing beats part 1-3 for me. The music, the atmosphere, the characters... Everything was perfect.

I will give Downpour credit for at least trying, Homecoming was just so lazy, it was basically an unofficial adaption of the Silent Hill movie.

Downpour at least was an all new story with all new locations and ideas, the problem is they just didn't pull it off, the graphics were ugly, the monster designs lame and was just overall a tedious and not fun to play game.

Just about the only decent thing was the story but even then it was certainly not great.

In my mind's eye I can see a version of Downpour that had a LOT more polish that could have resulted in decent Alan Wake meets Silent Hill type game, nothing approaching the previous highs of the series but not bad.

However they failed and it killed the series, the only other game was the spinoff Book of Memories from the same year and nothing since 2012.

I do but I don't want it back. I don't want those fuckers at Konami profiting off a franchise they killed three times over. Hopefully Team Siren can do their own thing or Hideo Kojima can collaborate with them and SCEJ to make something cool.
For everyone asking for remasters, stop. Just emulate. Pretty much every modern machine can do PCSX2 or play the native ports just fine at 4K+ resolutions just fine. Stop letting them profit off Team Silent's work.

I don't game on PC (Don't start lecturing me about it either) so emulating them is a no go for me.
