Well you can increase your ammo the further you get in and you get more weapons so you have a higher a higher total ammo pool.
But you never get as much as doom 2016. Learning to chainsaw enemies is the one thing you always have to do. You can kinda stick with one primary weapon but you have to be really aware of when your chainsaw has recharged
If you still want to give it a ago I would suggest just remembering to use it in between the big arena fights. So your always fully stocked when you enter a battle. Before long you will doing it second nature in the big fights.
Personally I like games with strict ammo limits as it forces you to experiment with other weapons and hopefully get more depth out of game.
But it ain't for everyone. I think the difficulty mainly effects the damage the enemies do
Update: I decide to give it a second try, lowering difficulty, disabling tutorial to not get disturbed, and decide to go a bit further. I beat two levels, start the third one inside your ship, and decide it was enough. Sure, was able to keep my shotgun longer, use the chainsaw less, still, with a few powerups, got two upgrades of ammos so i got 20. But its still not only about the ammo count, its the overall feeling of the game. Some people were making reference to super mario bros, and i freakin get it, at the end of the second level, when there is these fire circle row you have to jump threw, i was like....wtf. Double jump, dash, dash. Yes. Exactly what i was expecting from Doom... ( sarcasm ).
Level designs are not as great as 2016, and tbh, i was bored playing it. Even by lowering the difficulty, something is off about that game. Im not going to try to push it further, over 2 hours i just gave back to this game, and its not making me enjoy what’s good about Doom, getting your shotgun and shoot enemies and interesting level design you try to get threw. I feel when shooting enemies, something is off, well, everything about this game feel off.
So yes, its still a stinker for me. There is nothing to do. Long live Doom 2016, and to hell with Eternal!
